They do not pick up after hours. PLEASE post here first if you have found a senior pet. Coastal does not adopt out senior pets as a regular practice so after their "hold" period is up, it could be the demise of the animal. The Campbell River branch of the SPCA has RE-OPENED! Their address is 891 13th Avenue and they are open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 am to 5 pm (please verify these hours). They have two holding areas for found pets but they are still not the primary animal control. The SPCA does assist senior pets. Contact the Comox Valley & District SPCA at 250-339-7722. We also recommend:
- Contact animal control and your local SPCA
- Contact local vets
- Make sure your tags/tattoos and microchip details are up to date with your vet.
- Post to the local online classified sites like: Kijiji or Craig's List
- Contact local stores such as pet stores, service stations and grocery stores. See if you can post a poster.
- Post photos on the sides of mailboxes, if possible.
- Contact your local rescue organizations so they can also be on the lookout.
- Post a sign on your front yard with a photo and description with your contact number.
- Carry some smelly treats, leash or favorite toy to assist in luring your pet, if they are lost.
- Put a shelter outside with something in it that smells like them, such as a crate with a blanket in it. Place food/water outside in case they find their way home on their own.
