We have some exciting news: We’ve reached and exceeded our goal! Because of you, we raised $91,670.50 - what an amazing start to 2025!

These funds will support the lives of homeless dogs and cats at our one-of-a-kind, no-cage, no-kill Adoption Centre. Your generous contributions have changed lives, and we are so grateful to have your support.

Here at the Bow Valley SPCA, we know we can’t change the world. But we can change the worlds of the cats and dogs who come into our care as they search for their forever home. As we look back at 2024 and all the ups and downs, we are grateful to have your support and the support of our community to help us along the way.

At the end of the day, we’re all here because we care. We care about animals, we care about the joy they bring into our lives, and we care about the community. We know we can’t do it all, but when we come together, we can make the world a little bit brighter.

From all of us at the Bow Valley SPCA, we wish you a Happy New Year and all the best in 2025!

It’s not too late! Even though we’ve made our goal, you can still contribute to a better life for homeless cats and dogs in your community. We are still accepting donations and there are upcoming volunteer opportunities. Head to our website to check it out! We are so grateful for your support, and we are excited to continue on this journey together.

A double congratulations is in order for the first two kittens of our Pirates of the Carribean litter to go home! A snuggle bug and brave soul, Jack was a fan-favourite at the Centre, living up to his namesake. Chill and cool, Barbossa took a more thoughtful approach to adventures and play, but enjoyed a good romp as much as his littermates. We are so thrilled these two Cat-tains get to spend their days in exploration together, filling their new home with happy memories!

We are pleased to announce that Jack found their forever home on Dec 18, 2024.

What's better than one kittens? Two of course! Norrington and Davy-Jones have sailed away to their fur-ever home for new adventures. We are thrilled that they get to weather the seas of life together, and are certain they will bring double the joy and happiness to their new family!

We are pleased to announce that Davy-Jones found their forever home on Dec 19, 2024.

⭐️ A Tail of Brightness ⭐️

Peanut was brought into our care after being found stray. When Peanut arrived, we were shocked by her condition — she was filthy, covered in scars, extremely malnourished, full of lice and worms, and had a traumatic eye injury. We also discovered that she had pellets from a pellet-gun embedded under her skin. It was clear that Peanut had not been treated kindly in her short life, and was in dire need of a second chance.

So began a medical journey which would transform Peanut from a sickly and frail dog, to one who was full of life! It was determined that her eye could not be saved, and that she would be more comfortable without it, so she had surgery to have it removed. As soon as her eye was removed and she was started on proper feeding and deworming, Peanut felt so much better and her vibrant personality emerged. She didn't hold a grudge towards people, and absolutely soaked up the love and cuddles.

After a few months of recovery, Peanut was ready to start the search for a great home, and lucky for her, the search didn't last long! One of our Animal Care Attendants had a family in mind for this special dog. They came to meet her, and it was love at first sight!

"Peanut is doing great! She is getting better on leash AND she isn't pulling as much and has figured out I want to pick which side of the trees we will walk on. The kids can get her to sit — I can't! She was playing in the yard with our neighbour's dog, Skye, yesterday and they are both excited to see each other when they are together. Peanut has been playing with a tennis ball and carries her Kong toy around the house. More than once I've fallen asleep on the couch with her asleep in her bed and I awaken to find her asleep in her crate. I am thrilled with how well she is behaved!"

We feel so grateful to be able to give second chances to animals in need, and it's extra special when we're able to show them kindness and compassion when they have been failed by humans before. Consider helping us reach our $85,000 goal (we’re SO close!) before the end of the year by donating at the link below:

With all their siblings gone home and no applications in the inbox, we thought it might take some time before Will and Beckett found their homes: and we weren't sure they'd find a home together. However, it was love-at-first-meet when a visitor who had been watching them on our website for some time came to the Centre. It seemed almost serendipitous, and we are so happy these brothers no only found their forever, but found it together!

We are pleased to announce that Beckett found their forever home on Dec 20, 2024.

A true lap-cat, sweet-as-pie and young cat full of adventure and curiosity, we were surprised when Tobie was looked over time and time again for adoption. Aside from a predisposition to gingivitis and a need for dental homecare, we thought he was pretty purrfect. You can imagine our excitement when, after nearly a year, Tobie's forever family came forward at last. We know this bean will be living his best life, full of love from his new family and older sibling. His story, is why we wait: there's a home for everyone. Congratulations Tobie!

We are pleased to announce that Tobie found their forever home on Dec 21, 2024.

🎉 Congrats Bootstrap! 🎉

Bootstrap, a member of the Pirates of the Caribbean crew and destroyer of shoelaces, has found an amazing forever family! With a new crew of doggies, kitties, and a loving family, Bootstrap will be in no shortage of good company. Being a bit of a wild-child, we know that Bootstrap will be bringing lots of s***k and energy to his new home, and we love that they were drawn to his wild and playful ways! Wishing Bootstrap smooth seas and clear skies for all his days!

The holidays are here, and thanks to the outpouring of generous gifts that we've received this season, our incredible community has helped to make the world a little brighter for the homeless animals spending this Christmas in the shelter, and for the animals that will come through our doors in the New Year. The work of our no-kill, no-cage Adoption Centre wouldn't be possible without the unwavering support of our community, and we are so grateful!

As this year comes to a close, we have been reminiscing on the success stories from this past year. But the stories we’ve shared with you are just a few of so many tales of abandoned, stray, or surrendered animals that have been rehabilitated and found great homes. We feel so proud of all the happily-ever-afters we’ve helped facilitate, all the amazing animals that have been given second chances in our care, and of the ways we have been able to give back to the community that always supports us.

Our staff, volunteers, supporters, adopters, and donors have all contributed to these successes in 2024, and although the year has come with unprecedented challenges due to the sheer volume of animals needing help, we have stayed true to our mission and philosophies. We are so excited for another year of saving lives and connecting animals with their forever homes.

From all of the staff, volunteers, and furry residents at the Bow Valley SPCA, we wish you and your four-legged friends a safe, warm and wonderful holiday season, and all the best in the year to come.

- Daisy Hilchey, Bow Valley SPCA Adoption Centre Manager

Please note our holiday public visiting hours. Rest assured, our Animal Care Staff are in 365 days per year, and will still be in caring for our furry residents spending the holidays in the shelter, and will make sure they feel loved and cherished.

We think that all of our animals made Santa's nice list, but there may or may not be a few that had their naughty moments this year ... But we still think they deserve some presents! What do you think?

Here at the Bow Valley SPCA, we depend on donors like you to help us meet 80% of our annual operating costs. To this end, we’re hoping to raise $85,000 by the end of the year so that we can continue our mission of Changing Lives and Making a Difference. Every dollar we receive goes directly towards the care and support of our resident dogs and cats ... even the naughty ones. Donate today!

KOHEN UPDATE 12/20/2024:

Our Christmas wish for Kohen was for him to feel healthy, and we’re pleased to report that this guy is looking and feeling better than ever!

Following his appointment with the Dermatology team at CARE Hospital, we’ve been able to rule out more conditions, and finesse his treatment plan. He is now off all his oral medications, and feeling great! The Dermatologist believes that he does in fact have allergies, likely with a food and environmental component, but that because his body had deteriorated to such an extreme state, it just took him nearly 8 months to stabilize. He still requires weekly medicated baths and a hypoallergenic diet, but they would consider his allergies well-controlled at this point, which means we can focus on finding him a forever home! His adopter will still need to manage skin-flares lifelong, but we feel hopeful that his body has repaired itself enough to where he can be controlled once again with diet and topical treatments as needed.

To top it all off, this guy has nearly DOUBLED in weight from his intake date, and even managed to maintain this healthy weight. Way to go Kohen!

Getting Kohen to this point was possible thanks to the generous donations of our amazing community. We will continue to manage his condition for as long as he’s in our care, but we hope that 2025 will be the year he finds an amazing forever home!

Check out his website bio for more information about his personality, and ongoing care needs. Spread the word that this guy is pawsitively ADOPTABLE!

A Wednesday update from one very happy kitten!

“Just wanted to send a happy update for Colby Fromage, from just over a month in her new home. We love her so much and she is perfect!

Officially she is still Colby… but we called her Picabo, Squeak, Moonbeam, Killa, Hello Kitty and Mocha Bean. And Baby Girl.

Such a great experience adopting from Bow Valley SPCA... at an appropriate age and spayed and healthy. Thank you for such important work!”

Congrats to this little kitty who gets to spend her first Christmas in her forever home!

W***y, now named Shadow due to his affinity for following his new family members around the house, has landed in an amazing forever home. A sweet and sensitive boy who was loved by many, and with a love of chicken like no other, we're so happy that this gentle soul didn't have to spend too long in our care before finding his forever family. We're wishing Shadow many happy, chicken-filled years!

We are pleased to announce that W***y found their forever home on Dec 7, 2024.

The cutest kitty ever with a purrsonality to match, Squirrel found her forever family within just a few days! We didn't have a lot of time to get to know this little miss, but in the short time she was with us she stole many hearts with her beautiful disposition. Home for the holidays, we know this gal will be an amazing companion and friend, both to her new two-legged family members and her new four-legged feline and canine siblings!

We are pleased to announce that Squirrel found their forever home on Dec 11, 2024.

Odie has been a visitor, volunteer and staff favourite since he arrived. With his unique eyes, smart-as-a-whip intelligence and strong purrsonality, Odie has left his mark at the Bow Valley SPCA. While a cuddle bug and big ol' softie deep down, there were moments where Odie let us know that he wasn't truly happy at the shelter, and that he missed the comforts of a home life and his own people. It took some time to learn that his outbursts were nothing more than frustration at having to share attention and affection with other cats, and a desire to put his intellect to use. We gave him a puzzle feeder for his meals and started clicker training, and he mastered them both quickly, and loved it! And with this extra stimulation, his frustration levels decreased remarkably. We knew that in a home, he would become his best self. What can we say? Odie is a special boy, and we were thrilled when his new family came in and saw the same thing. After 210 days of waiting, Odie has found his lasting forever, where he can rule his very own kingdom! He's already settling in, exploring the house, and seeming much more at ease. Congratulations Odie, you will be missed but better than that, you will be so dearly loved!

We are pleased to announce that Odie found their forever home on Dec 12, 2024.
