Thank you all SO MUCH for your incredible generosity on Giving Tuesday!

We asked you to help us Unwrap a Second Chance for stray, surrendered, and abandoned dogs and cats and your response has truly overwhelmed us.

Thanks to your kindness, and with the matching gifts from our amazing donors Shannon Danylko, Barry Taylor, and Wendy Mah, we raised an incredible $49,027.50 yesterday! This achievement is only possible because of YOU.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making a difference.

Because of you, we’re over 55% of the way to meeting our $100,000 goal by December 31st to help us provide individualized care to each cat and dog at our Centre.

This holiday season, let’s come together to Unwrap Their Second Chance. Every gift brings us closer to giving these deserving animals the love, safety, and futures they deserve.

It’s Giving Tuesday! Thanks to the generous support of Shannon Danylko, Barry Taylor, and Wendy Mah, we have $15,000 to match today! That means every dollar you give goes twice as far towards helping dogs and cats who need a second chance.

We know you see a lot of posts like this. It’s a big decision to choose which charities to support. We don’t want to tell you how to spend your money. You worked hard for that.

So, instead, we’re just going to leave you with some photos of kittens that have been in our shelter this year…

Tomorrow, December 2nd, is Giving Tuesday!

This is a big day for all charities, and we couldn’t be more excited. We have up to $15,000 in matching funds from our generous donors Shannon Danylko, Barry Taylor, and Wendy Mah.

All we need is for you, our incredible community, to match it! Can you help us out tomorrow?

We have big news! This Giving Tuesday, your donations will be doubled until we reach our $15,000 match! Thank you to Shannon Danylko, Barry Taylor, and Wendy Mah for your generous support of animals in need!

This means that on Giving Tuesday –Tuesday, December 2nd – every dollar you give will go twice as far towards helping stray, surrendered, and abandoned dogs and cats unwrap their second chance. You can double your impact without breaking the bank. What a great way to start the holidays!

Some quick history: Giving Tuesday began in 2012 as a way for people to come together to do good things and help their communities. After the madness of Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping, it’s a quieter day dedicated to charities and non-profits looking to do good in this world. It’s a day to encourage awareness and fundraising to keep those charitable doors open for years to come!

Because when we help others, we make the world a better place.

Here at the Bow Valley SPCA, it’s a pretty big day for us. As a charitable organization, we rely on the generosity of our community – of people like you. We need donors to make up over 70% of our operating costs so we can continue to help dogs and cats in our care and give them that second chance they so desperately deserve. We hope you consider us this Giving Tuesday. Each and every donation is greatly appreciated and will directly support the care of the animals in our shelter.

From all of us at the Bow Valley SPCA, we hope you have a warm and comfortable holiday season filled with good food, good friends, and a furry snuggle or two.

Hi, I'm Tobbie, a curious cat with a heart as bright as my golden-orange coat! I love to investigate new spaces and follow you around just to see what you're up to. My curiosity makes every day a little adventure. When I'm not busy exploring, I'm all about affection! I'll nuzzle into your hand, smash my head against your arm for face pets, all the while purring contentedly. I have total "orange cat energy" which is to say although I might not be the absolute most clever cat you'll ever meet, I'm certainly one of the silliest and goofiest! Just a big lover at heart, I can't wait to find a great home where I can soak up all the affection you're willing to give. 🎁 Unwrap Their Second Chance - “Brave Little Bean” Defies the Odds 🎁

Fava Bean arrived to us as a transfer in 2024. A timid kitty, she spent several months hiding but slowly showed her sweet side, snuggling up with people she knew.

In August, one of her eyes suddenly changed colour and we rushed her to our vet. Over the next days, Fava’s health deteriorated, with systemic symptoms rapidly appearing. After ending up at an emergency clinic after a frightening turn for the worse, she was diagnosed with Ocular Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), a devastating and previously-deadly disease caused by a mutation to an otherwise harmless virus. For years, FIP was considered a death sentence. We prepared ourselves for heartbreak, but Fava had other plans.

In recent months, a treatment for FIP has been approved in Canada. Just in the nick of time, Fava was started on this treatment and thankfully responded very well! Treatment for FIP takes place over 84 days, and while it doesn’t have a guaranteed outcome, we felt cautiously hopeful that Fava might recover. And she did just that!

The silver lining to this journey is that to provide overnight monitoring and administration of treatments, Fava moved into a foster home, and she blossomed! Snuggly and playful, she began showing a carefree side that she never showed in the shelter, earning her the nickname “The Brave Little Bean.” Now sleeping under the covers with her foster family, she’s proven that with her trusted humans, she’s a Velcro kitty who craves affection.

Fava’s final chapters are still unwritten, and there are uncertainties about whether she will have chronic conditions that could result in the removal of her eye because of the prior damage. Even so, we’re just grateful that she’s not only surviving, but thriving!

We feel thankful that we were able to give Fava Bean a second chance by providing her with lifesaving treatment. The treatment itself cost over $1000, with veterinary costs climbing well beyond that, but every cent is worth it.

This holiday season, help us Unwrap Their Second Chance by donating toward our winter campaign to help us reach our $100,000 goal!

Hi, I'm Stormy! I have fur as soft and silvery as a winter cloud, and my personality is just as bright. In true cat fashion, although I loooove affection, I prefer it on my own terms. If I strut up to you and head bonk against your leg, that's a good sign I'm ready for pats! I'm managing some arthritis and old injuries so I'm not a fan of full-body pets right now which could just be because I'm a bit ouchy, but give me a gentle head or chin scratch and I'll melt with happiness. I'm already on medication to help with the discomfort, so I'll be feeling even better soon. If you're looking for a spirited, affectionate kitty who will happily curl up next to you for cozy evenings and long snuggles, I'm your girl! Dog-friendly: Untested, would likely prefer a home withoutCat-friendly: Somewhat, would likely prefer a home without Kid-friendly: Yes, respectful older kids recommended Do I Need Special Care?: I get a monthly injection and pain medication as needed to help manage my osteoarthritis and old injuries.

Hi I'm Duchess! I'm looking to find an amazing home alongside my bonded pair, O'Malley. Just like Duchess and Thomas from the Aristocats, my graceful beauty compliments O'Malley's rugged charm just purrfectly! I'm a gentle soul with a shy nature, but don't let that fool you-I have a heart full of love just waiting to be shared. With patience and a soft touch, I blossom into a sweet companion who enjoys gentle affection and quiet moments by your side. I'm never far from my buddy O'Malley, who gives me courage and helps me feel safe, while I soften his rough-around-the-edges look with my elegance. Together, we're a delightful duo: O'Malley leads the way, and I follow with quiet trust, purring against his side, wrapping my tail around his, and cuddling up together in cozy beds. We can't wait to find a home that loves us both for exactly who we are! Hi I'm O'Malley! I'm looking to find an amazing home alongside my bonded pair, Duchess. Just like Duchess and Thomas from the Aristocats, my rugged charm compliments Duchess' elegant beauty just purrfectly! I may look like I'm straight out of a street-cat storybook with my big orange tomcat cheeks, face covered in scars, half a tail, and a missing ear and a couple toes, but don't be fooled-beneath that tough exterior is the mushiest heart you'll ever meet! I'm a big softie who melts for cuddles, happily soaking up affection and purring my way into your lap. I'm never far from my buddy Duchess, who leans on me for courage and bravery. I'm a confident fella, so I'm more than happy to help her feel safe! Together, we're a delightful duo: I lead the way, and Duchess follows with quiet trust. We love to cozy up in bed together, and I always like to have her in my sight incase I'm needed for comfort or confidence. We can't wait to find a home that loves us both for exactly who we are! 🎁 Unwrap Their Second Chance - A Superhero Story 🎁

Every superhero needs an origin story, and for brave pup Peter Parker, his didn’t have an easy beginning. This Peter Parker didn’t start out swinging from the rooftops, his started out fighting for his life.

We were called with a desperate plea for help when a dog was brought in by a good Samaritan to a local vet clinic, after being left for dead in a ditch following a run-in with a vehicle. Peter was in rough shape, with road rash on his body, a nasty abdominal wound, and a broken pelvis and shattered femur. He was also covered in fleas, extremely malnourished, and it was clear he was weak and in pain.

After his condition stabilized with nutrition, fluids, and medications, Peter Parker went into surgery to address his abdominal wound, and to amputate his broken leg, which was the best option to give him a high quality of life for many years to come. He faced his surgery with courage, and only a day later was wagging his tail and beginning to hop around.

Once fully healed, Parker embarked on his next adventure - finding a forever home! And it didn’t take him long. Almost as soon as he was cleared for adoption, Parker charmed over his new family with his easygoing nature, handsome good looks, and gentle spirit. Peter Parker may have lost a leg, but he gained a family, and a future full of many great adventures.

We’re so grateful that Peter Parker’s superhero story had a happy ending, but these second chances come at a cost. Emergency surgery, overnight veterinary care, laser therapy, and post-op rechecks quickly added up to over $5000. Because we have such an amazing community, we were able to cover the costs without delay and without hesitation. Your donations allow us to give lifesaving care to dogs like Peter Parker.

This holiday season, help us Unwrap Their Second Chance by donating toward our winter campaign to help us reach our $100,000 goal!

I'm Rosie, and I'm just as lovely and sweet as my name suggests. I can be a little shy at first, but once I get to know you, I'm sweet as sugar and full of gentle affection. With my dreamy green-glass eyes and soft, dilute coloring, I'm a true beauty with a tender heart. I'd love to find a quiet, cozy home where I can settle into my "comfy girl era" with the perfect family who understands my gentle nature.
