Gentle but super-shy Puffin came to us with little former exposure or interaction with people. Naturally, he was extremely wary of visitors, volunteers, and staff alike, preferring to watch from the safety of a blanket or cozy hiding spot and learn that people can in fact be nice. When he decided to choose bravery to say hi to a visiting couple, he chose his family. With a home all to himself to explore and rule, we are so happy that this little bird has landed in a safe haven full of love!

šŸŽ‰ Congrats Aveline! šŸŽ‰

Social, playful, loving, velcro-kitty extraordinaire Aveline settled right in when she arrived at the Centre. Full of confidence and s***k, Aveline loved to be the star of the show and the main center of attention. Snuggles, cuddles, and affection were her top priorities everyday, all day. When Aveline’s adopter met her, it was an instant connection! We think the smiles and happy paws say it all: Aveline couldn’t be happier, and neither could we! She really landed the jackpot in a home that will shower her with all the love she craves and so deserves. We will sure miss her demands for pets and cuddles, and her zoomie bursts, but we know she will fill her new home with happy memories and laughter!

Happy Wednesday! Sleven came to us as a stray, and despite his lovely personality, was overlooked for adoption for many months. Eventually, he was adopted, but was returned some time later for ā€œaggression.ā€ We were perplexed, as the Sleven we knew and loved was sweet and gentle. Well, it turns out coming back into our care was for the best, as Sleven found an incredible home - his forever home - and the rest has been history! Although we can’t always understand why things happen the way they do, it’s clear that this happily-ever-after was always meant to be.

ā€œSleven has been a great addition to our pod! He is such a wonderful cat! He quickly became fast friends with our son, never leaving his side and setting up shop in his room. Over the past few months we have gotten to see his personality come out. He is such a happy kitty with lots to say who just wants to be around people. When he’s not hanging out on the couch with you, you can find Sleven in his two favorite spots. Hanging out in his favourite cupboard or sleeping in his noodle bowl. We look forward to taking him out for walks now the warmer weather is upon us. I’m happy he has become comfortable with us and now he can forget about his crazy first few years of life and be the best kitty he can be! See below his nicknames:

Sweet Grudge couldn’t have had a personality further from his name. With big, squishy cheeks, the gentlest heart, and a laid back disposition, we knew Grudge wouldn’t be with us for long. The perfect fit came along shortly after the announcement of his arrival, at a long-term care facility in Banff who was looking for a companion cat for their residents after the devastating passing of their previous cat, also a BVSPCA Alumni, Charlie. Grudge fit the bill with his loving yet independent nature, and dashing good looks. Unsurprisingly, we have already heard that Grudge has settled right in and is dearly loved by all of his new friends. Bearing the new name Harley (as they couldn't have the residents "carrying a Grudge around!"), we are so happy for the new life he has found!

We are pleased to announce that Grudge found their forever home on Jun 18, 2025.

Big cheeks, tomcat Earl was a visitor favourite during his time at the shelter. A gentle giant, this guy had the scars of a hard life but a heart as soft as butter. Attention, affection, and love were his priorities in life: things which he practically demanded of those that visited his room. It’s no surprise that Earl won hearts, and quickly found his forever home. Now this guy gets to spend his days with his paws up, relaxing and chilling, and basking in the comforts of a home so deserved.

We are pleased to announce that Earl found their forever home on Jun 19, 2025.

Hi there, I'm Blaine! I'm a big hunka love kinda cat who's looking for a home with some cozy spots to kick back and relax. Sweet with my feline roommates, and friendly with human visitors, I hope I won't have too much trouble finding a nice home that fits the bill! I'm loyal and loving, and looking to find a best friend and sidekick for life. I promise to give you lots of cuddles in return for a warm house and a full belly! Dog-friendly: UntestedCat-friendly: Yes (additional considerations due to being FIV positive)Kid-friendly: YesDo I Need Special Care?: I tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) which is a condition that may lead to a weakened immune system. I will need regular veterinary visits to make sure I am staying healthy. The staff can tell you more about what it means to adopt a cat that is FIV positive, but you should know that FIV positive cats can lead long and healthy lives! I also have gum recession on my front incisors and many of my incisors have already fallen out. Additional teeth may just fall out, but if not, I may need dental surgery in the future to extract them if they start giving me trouble. Some FIV cats may be more prone to dental issues throughout the lifetime, so it would be recommended to budget for ongoing dental care to keep my teeth looking and feeling their best.

Good things take time … but the waiting can be hard. For Louie, as he waited for his forever family he watched his feline friends head to their homes one by one, he would then make new friends only to watch as they too found their forever after. Despite seeing so many friends come and go, Louie remained a perfect gentleman, free of bitterness, and always welcomed meeting new friends. A calm presence, he could be found in grooming or play sessions with his roommates, sharing the window ā€œTVā€ watching, or teaching how to properly chase a ball.

For over a year and a half, Louie settled into his life at the shelter. When he first arrived, Louie was a nine-month-old, extremely shy, timid, and human-adverse kitten. He would skitter away from visitors that came into his room: watching from up high on a perch was his preference. Over time however, with staff, volunteers, and visitors helping to build his trust and confidence, Louie gradually started to allow gentle pets until one day he started asking for affection, and even began venturing onto laps for a brief cuddle. And to our surprise, he absolutely loved cuddles from kids! While he was rarely the first cat to greet visitors at his door, we knew that in the right home where he could grow into bonds of trust, that Louie would be an exceptionally special cat!

Sadly, despite his leaps and bounds in sociability, Louie remained with us. As an orange tabby, he had a genetic predisposition to stomatitis: a condition where gums aggressively respond to plaque and tartar, resulting in a need for more frequent dental care. Due to no fault of his own, this condition combined with his quieter nature saw him passed by for adoption time and again.

Until a week ago.

A couple came in looking for a special addition to their family, namely a cat that would be a good fit and companion for their own cat. There were happy tears when the couple announced that Louie was that cat, and they wanted to take him home! This family had experience with stomatitis and weren’t deterred by it or Louie’s quieter nature. We are over the moon with joy that Louie finally found his purrfect forever home, where we know he will be deeply loved, has a feline companion to spend the days with, and road-trip adventures! At long last, congratulations Louie! You will be so missed, but the wait was worth it!

šŸŽ‰ Congrats Annie! šŸŽ‰

A bit shy, but a lot sweet, little orphan Annie is homeless no more! Ready to bring a new canine best friend into her life, Annie’s adopter spent several weeks earning Annie’s trust and becoming her safe person. In the short while they’ve known each other, Annie and her new guardian have formed a special bond that is evident to all, and we know Annie - now Lucie Lou! - will be cherished and spoiled as a best friend and sidekick for many years to come!

Update: Meru has received a number of applications and is pending adoption at this time!

🧔 Hi, I’m Meru! 🧔

Hiya, I’m Meru! Haven’t I got the cutest, cartoon-like ā€œDisney Princessā€ eyes you’ve ever seen? Although I’m shy right now, I’m quite curious, and will cautiously come investigate people, snacks, and toys when I think nobody is watching. I’m just a wee little thing, with silky-soft fur and ears almost like a bunny rabbit. I know I’m super cute, but I’ll still need a patient home that will help me feel safe and come out of my shell. I think I’m going to be a secret wild child - once I feel safe, I think my kitten-side will emerge with a need for zoomies and playtime!

🐶 Dog-friendly: Untested
🐱 Cat-friendly: Yes
šŸ§’ Kid-friendly: Patient older kids recommended due to shy nature

šŸŽ‰ Congrats Pasta Kittens! šŸŽ‰

These noodles took no time at all to find great homes. We’re not shocked, these little friends were so cute you just wanted to eat them up!

Congrats to all our pasta babies, Ravioli, Farfalle, Rotini, Orzo, Macaroni, Linguine, and Ziti! Almost all these kittens went to homes to become companions to another cat, so we know there will be no lack of love for any of these cuties.

Their mamma, Pastina, while needing more socialization than her babies, is also deserving of a forever home and has begun the hunt. If you have patience to give a semi-feral cat a home, she would love a quiet home where she can finally get some ā€œme-timeā€ after being an amazing mom to seven rowdy babies!
