Hi, I'm Marco! I just arrived at the Centre with my brother, and we can't wait to meet all our new friends (and maybe a fur-ever family!). We're a bonded pair, which means we're completely inseparable. We rely on each other for comfort, confidence, and companionship, so we're definitely looking for a home that's ready for double the love.Although we're nearly identical (no hard feelings if you mix us up!), I'm definitely the more rambunctious one. I love to explore, play, and stir up a little mischief. But we both share an unstoppable curiosity and a big love for people and other cats.If you're ready for twice the fun, twice the snuggles, and a lifetime of feline friendship, we're your guys!Dog-friendly: UntestedCat-friendly: YesKid-friendly: Untested, but likely fine!Do I Need Special Care?: I am a bonded pair with my brother, Polo. We need a home that has room and energy for both of us!

Marco is looking for a forever home. Contact us for more information

The Bow Valley SPCA, located in Canmore, Alberta, operates Canada’s first no-cage, no-kill Adoption Centre. Every day, we work to improve the lives of homeless dogs and cats and the families who adopt them. In recent months, we’ve welcomed many special animals who required urgent and extraordinary care, and have several longterm animals with ongoing extensive medical expenses:

❤️‍🩹 Jade, a dog who needed a leg amputation due to an old untreated injury
❤️‍🩹 Parker, a dog who needed an emergency leg amputation after being hit by a car
❤️‍🩹 Zoomie, a cat whose teeth had to be removed to relieve painful dental disease
❤️‍🩹 Columbus, a cat who had to have a toe amputated due to a sudden traumatic injury
❤️‍🩹 Kohen and Max, a dog and cat who require ongoing medical assistance for chronic allergies
❤️‍🩹 Poppy and Chester, two cats with special dietary needs to support renal function and urinary tract health
❤️‍🩹 Tucker, a dog requiring surgery to remove porcupine quills
❤️‍🩹 And multiple litters of kittens needing exams, vaccines, deworming, SNAP tests, and spays and neuters

The list goes on—and so does the Bow Valley SPCA. As a no-kill shelter, we give all we can to support the residents in our care in becoming medically and behaviourally healthy, no matter the cost. That’s why we need your support.

By purchasing tickets for our Harvest of Hope 50/50 Raffle, you’re helping us:

🐾 Rescue stray, surrendered, and abandoned dogs and cats in the Bow Valley
🐾 Provide essential veterinary treatments and rehabilitation
🐾 Ensure each animal receives the love and individualized care they deserve until they find their forever home

The winner will be contacted directly to claim their prize.

This year, and every year, we have so much to be thankful for.

🧡 Countless animal lives saved and given second chances, including many who wouldn’t be given that same chance elsewhere due to complex medical or behavioural challenges.
🧡 Our small but mighty team of dedicated staff who show up each and every day without fail to pour their hearts into providing exceptional individualized care to our resident dogs and cats.
🧡 Our many selfless volunteers, the cornerstone of our organization, who freely commit their time and energy to so many areas of our operation to ensure our ongoing success.
🧡 The amazing veterinary staff at all three local vet clinics, who share their expertise and go above and beyond to ensure our animals get the medical care they need to thrive.
🧡 Our donors near and far who, whether through donations small or significant, generously contribute to allow us to continue our lifesaving work. We couldn’t do this without you!
🧡 Our adopters, who take a chance on giving a rescue animal a home filled with unconditional love, which is all we hope for each of the cats and dogs that come through our doors.
🧡 Our incredible community of supporters who cheer us on, believe in our mission, and inspire us to keep going when things get tough.

If you’re here on this journey with us, in any capacity, thank you for being here. We are truly grateful!

Introducing our new Administrator Julie! Julie brings a deep love for both people and animals, and a career full of heart-centered, helping roles.

From her early days in the Bow Valley as a veterinary receptionist and boarding technician at Canmore Veterinary Hospital, to her time as Cemetery Coordinator for the Town of Banff, and later as an Employment Advisor with the Job Resource Centre, Julie has always gravitated toward work that blends compassion, community, and care. The role at the BVSPCA felt like a natural fit: a joyful intersection of her strengths in administration, her passion for service, and her lifelong commitment to animal welfare.

Outside the centre, Julie can be found running the Valley’s trails with her spirited collie mix, Dottie, who was adopted from the SPCA in 2023 as the littlest pup in the Old Timer’s litter. When she’s not chasing pawprints, she’s curled up by the window with a book, experimenting with sewing, crochet, and illustration, or enjoying long walks and hikes with Oliver, her gentle, wise old collie-retriever mix.

‼️Urgently Looking for a Home!‼️

A couple weeks ago, we reintroduced you to Fava Bean, a very special kitty who after beating her battle with FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), is desperately hoping to find a forever home before her current fosters need to bring her back to the shelter in November. Despite reaching thousands of people, we’ve had zero applications for our “Brave Little Bean.” 😔

If you’re interested in meeting Fava Bean, or have any questions about her, don’t hesitate to send an email to [email protected] or give us a call at 403-609-2022. We’d love to tell you more about her!

If you’re not in a position to adopt, please help Fava Bean find her forever home by sharing her story!

🎉 Congrats Cascade! 🎉

Spunky, lovable, shoulder-sitting Cascade made quick first impressions on his new family, who have been waiting for some time to find the right furry friend to add to their family. With his extroverted nature and crazy kitten antics, Cascade fit the bill perfectly… or shall we say, purrrrrfectly! Congrats to this lucky little dude who has many days of playtime and shoulder perching ahead of him! From sick and skinny stray, to happily-ever-after, we’re so happy for Cascade and his new family!

Hey, I'm Kinder! I came to the BVSPCA as a bit of a surprise... hence, Kinder Surprise! Although my arrival was unexpected, it was not unwelcome, as I'm just about the cutest little kitten you'll ever meet! Full of energy, silly-ness, and a love of all humans, I tend to have people wrapped around my paw in no time at all. I've shown myself to be a bit of a princess, and my love for humans doesn't quite extend to a love for other 4-legged friends, but I think I'd adapt to living with a dog or another cat as I'm still young and adaptable. I just might have some sass and cattitude about it at first! I can't wait to find a home full of fun and cuddles!Dog-friendly: UntestedCat-friendly: Not aggressive, but hissy/growly at firstKid-friendly: YesDo I Need Special Care?: No

Happening THIS Saturday, October 4th! We have some familiar faces who can’t wait to reconnect, or maybe even find their forever, and some new faces that are newly on the hunt for great homes! Our open houses have been a bit quiet over the summer, but we’re hoping with the change of the seasons that this one will have a great turn out - for the dogs!!! Whether you’re looking for your new best friend, or just need to fill your quota for doggie cuddles, we’d love to see you!

Happy Wednesday from very special birthday girl, Olivia! Previously Peach, Olivia spent her birthday in style. Here’s what her owner has to say about their time together:

“She “turned 2”! We celebrated at the park with some friends + pup safe peanut butter and yoghurt “pupcakes.” She is OBSESSED with peanut butter. She is so good with when we’re eating and stays away, but as soon as she hears the peanut butter jar starting to get opened, she RUNS. She is THE life of the party. During stampede we had lotssss of people in our house because we live beside the grounds and if you think she didn’t like it… she made sure to request belly rubs one by one. Remember the being scared of the car…? Girly jumps into my backseat as fast as Lightning McQueen now! I think it’s funny when Aussie videos pop up for me on social media and I have a moment of realization like OMG she does that because of her breed! The nipping from the cattle side, the eating grass from the shepherd side, the side eye from them too… you can’t escape the roots!”

Farewell to our fabulous Administrator, Alayna! After 2 impactful years with the Bow Valley SPCA, Alayna is off on new adventures.

Alayna was instrumental to the BVSPCA in so many ways. Notably, Alayna planned and executed new events/fundraisers such as our Summer Art Market, assisted in the creation and leadership of our new Cat Centric program for volunteers, and organized and managed our Shed Shop as we’ve prepared for its renovations. We will greatly miss her attention to detail, dedication to our cause, and gentle approach with our furry residents.

Please join us in thanking Alayna for her contributions over the past 2 years. Best of luck in your future endeavours, Alayna!
