As we look forward to 2025 and the hopes and challenges it will bring, we also look back gratefully on 2024 and all that our community of supporters, staff, adopters, volunteers, and donors have helped us to achieve. We have compiled a heartwarming celebration of all the dogs and cats who have found their forever homes in 2024. This is an exciting time to look back and reflect on all the wonderful animals who found their families and will continue to live happy lives. But this past year had its noteworthy challenges, too, with lower than average adoption rates. This drop in adoptions has not been for a lack of animals or effort! In particular, our six dog rooms have been full the entire year with some amazing dogs and as a no-kill shelter, our dogs safely stay with us until their well-deserved and suitable forever homes are found. We are working on new strategies and ways to help the wonderful animals in our Adoption Centre find their forever homes so that we have the capacity to continue to help many more dogs and cats in need in 2025. You can help the amazing animals in our Centre by spreading the word: tell your friends and neighbours, share our stories and posts on social media, and encourage others to subscribe to our newsletter for updates about adoptable animals and upcoming events. The more exposure we can create for our furry friends, the faster we will find them the perfect forever family. Rest assured, we are doing our very best, and we are grateful for our community of supporters who continue to stand with us through all the ups and downs. With that said, this is still a moment to celebrate. Please enjoy our Class of 2024 and celebrate the 85 adorable cats and dogs who found their forever homes this past year thanks to our community of supporters, our volunteers, and the work of the Bow Valley SPCA. Today marks 365 days that Bedard has been in our care. Bedard is many things. Bedard is a lap-snuggler, a belly rub enthusiast, and a lover of all people. He’s a high-drive, highly enthusiastic dog who is motivated, eager to please, and has a “can do” attitude toward anything you throw at him. He’s sometimes too smart for his own good, but this also means he’s a pro when it comes to learning new things (he has his basic commands, is crate trained, housetrained, has placement training, and knows plenty of endearing tricks). He’s a fetch-master, an agility superstar, and he hasn’t met a puzzle toy he can’t solve. Bedard is a dog that at one point in his life, had to fight to survive, and so is naturally unsure of other dogs, and defensive of his space around them. But despite that, Bedard is a dog who has worked so hard to tackle his big feelings, and has made tremendous progress toward neutrality around other dogs and decreasing his reactivity. Bedard has proven himself to be calm in a home environment, and has worked sooo hard on his impulse control and manners that he is now one of our most polite pups. Bedard will be your adventure buddy rain, snow, or shine, and thrives when he has a job to do (such as carrying his own hiking backpack filled with toys and water, because he’ll also be your sidekick in life). But most of all, Bedard is a loving dog who wants to please his people, and is deserving of a forever home that cares for and accepts him for all his charms and quirks. To that person, they won’t find a more loyal dog 🐾🧡Can’t adopt Bedard but want to help him out? Share this post to help us find his people - we know they’re out there and he’s ready and waiting to find them. Help us use the power of social media to find this great dog a home!
