I'm so excited to announce who will be part of our barrel racing team for 2025 ✨️🐎💗

Starting with the one and only Kimberly, most of you already know Kim she's a very dedicated and hard-working cowgirl ! She started riding lessons 1 year and a half ago, when her son Nathan took a few riding lessons before going to Australia 🇦🇺 Kim really enjoyed riding and wanted more challenges, so she started her barrel racing career, she completed her first season this year and took so much experience doing rodeos and jackpots! She had the chance to team up with Jessie at the start of the season and completed her summer with Flame, who was also at her first year barrelracing 🐎 🏆

Kimberly and Flame will be back for 2025, and I'm so excited to work with this team again this year and see all the progress in the following months 🙌🏻 🥰

It’s that time of the year again! ❄️ and while we may have different opinions on when to blanket horses, there are some safety guidelines to ALWAYS follow. See the photos attached for examples of correct and incorrect ways to fasten your blanket straps.
1. ALWAYS face the hooks towards your horse’s body. When hooks are facing outwards they can easily be unhooked or get stuck by rubbing against fences, stall walls, etc. If the hook gets stuck the horse could panic and seriously injure themselves in an attempt to escape. It is also just an easy way to lose straps and damage those expensive blankets.
2. ALWAYS cross your belly and leg straps. This keeps the blanket secure and prevents twisting. Twisted blankets could cause injury themselves or another panic type situation where the horse is stuck in a twisted blanket and hurts themselves or simply ruins your expensive blanket by trying to escape.

Matter's equine Halloween camp 🎃
Sunday, October 27th, from 10 am to 3 pm 👻

2 rides a day, games with the horses, paint and costumes the horses, educational activities, and much much ! 🐎

Camps are perfect for all skill levels, and we take a limited number of riders to ensure safety and quality of teaching 😀 🕷

It's Skijoring season already in Alberta ! ❄️
All weather is good weather for a horse ride ! 🐎

That being said, make sure to wear your warm gears for your riding lessons ! Bring more than one pair of cloves, lots of warm layers, snow pants, winterboots, heated socks, etc. There's no excuses. You just need to dress accordingly ☃️

Slim shady left this week for the beautiful British Columbia! ✨️

After 6 years, I left the reins to his new cowgirl! We were lucky to have him as a lesson horse ! Slim helped me to start Matter's equine, and most of my students started to ride with slim ! He was extremely patient and so calm to help students get more confident in the saddle ! We will miss him a lot ❤️

He will now continue his barrel racing career in BC and Arizona... It's not a bad life for this sweet guy! 🐎💕 If you have pictures of Slim or funny stories with him, feel free to share in the comments 💙

This is the reality of many self-employed workers / business owners! 💼 I have a 24-hour cancelation policy, which I believe is more than fair as most places ask for 48-hour notice. And I still have some people canceling a few hours or minutes before their lessons or just not showing at all. I understand, and I know things can happen, but usually, it's always the same people that cancel last minutes, and some can be offended by the cancelation policy. 😵‍💫 What is important to know about self-employed and small businesses is that we have a LOT of things to pay for the well-being of the business. Especially when it comes to horses 😂 When you cancel your lesson last minute, I still need to pay my 900$ farrier bill every 6 weeks, feed my 7 horses that cost me an average of 20k a year to feed, a have an average of 15k in veterinary care, 400$ a month for body workers... and the list goes on! This does not include the sand for the arena, tack, equipment for the farm, maintenance, etc. Most barn will ask you to pre-pay your lessons, and if you don't come, it's too bad ! I'm trying to be the most uncomfortable, flexible in the schedule and accommodate every one but you need to understand I have horses that requires a lot of fees to stay alive and I can't not feed my horses for a day because I can't afford it, this is not how it works ....! 🐴 All horses have a specific amount of ride they can have in a week also, I can not over book the schedule to compensate for the one not showing. Horses are not machines, and they are booked every week to a limited number of lessons! 🦄👩🏼 Most of you are amazing and really understanding about the cancelation policy, and I want to say thank you 🩷🌟
