I'm constantly on the search for more knowledge in this horsemanship journey and Trevor Mertes provided just that at his Extreme Cowboy Challenge clinic at Hidden Hills Farm in Langley. Theia was a total rockstar too!

Had an awesome time at Canoa Farms in Merritt a couple months ago. Both my horses loved the obstacles! Here is a video of Fledge tackling the suspension bridge. Sn**ch him up at a reduced rate before the holidays!🎄

For your consideration:

Due to unfortunately having to pull out of the Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred makeover because of covid border restrictions, I'm offering "Win Lose or Straw," aka "Winona" up to a new home.

Winona and I have been training extensively since December. This training has included trail riding alone and in company, starting over fences, liberty, and bridleless riding. She has crossed rivers, sidepassed to open gates, and can canter with a flag. She truly is an amazing all-around partner for anyone who is looking for a young prospect to take in any direction.

Would be great for an intermediate rider or an amateur in a program.

Brie is getting braver! I'm blown away by how quickly she went from running backwards when the tarp crinkled to this.

Brie is learning to accept things on her back! I try to challenge them with this before I ride them so that hopefully the rider and the saddle are non-events.

Evening ride with Todd Scheerer ❤️. He's improved his riding so quickly! He's gone from non-rider to this in about 5 lessons. I may be biased, but I think he's a natural :p.

Some interesting information here about the horse's brain. I found it especially interesting that horses pick up on our own nervousness and mirror it biochemically. It's so important to look at how our own internal state can impact our horses.

New project horse!

Brie is a 7yo unstarted grade mare. So far she's not very interested in humans. I'll be working on convincing her that it's okay to be near me for the next few sessions.

UPDATE: KENORA IS SOLD!

Introducing: Kenora
6 yo, 15hh Paint Mare.
Kenora is the sweetest mare. Will come up to you in the paddock or greet you at the gate. She hacks out alone and in company, has been started over fences, loads and trailers well, and has been ridden english, western and ba****ck and bridleless. This girl would make an amazing little eventer for a youth or smallish adult (I'm 5'7 and she fits me pretty well). Plenty of pep but safe. Has had a natural horsemanship start and can go in any direction.
Kenora does well turned out in a herd with room to run. She is barefoot with great feet, on a 100% hay diet and keeps well. Only needed blanketing for freezing rain this winter. Very low maintenance.
Mid-high fours.

Kenora was waiting for me by the gate yesterday morning so I decided to hop on for a ba****ck trail ride. Here she is walking home on a loose rein. Loose reins help horses to connect to their responsibilities by allowing for mistakes to be made so that they can understand what not to do. Kenora knows that it's her job to maintain gait, no matter where we're headed, even if it's back to her herd.

What do you and your horse have left when the rope comes off? I use liberty as a gauge for the connection I have with my horse. If they run off, I know that I need to work more on building the relationship.

Trail Ride
