I said I would make some dog sport posts so here's dog sports in a nutshell 🤪😂 Gatsby earned his sprinter title this weekend (pending CKC approval)! He averaged 10.9 seconds or 32.8km/hr!!! 💨 For anyone who is curious, Gatsby and I compete in agility, rally, obedience, and sprinter. We are doing barnhunt and will hopefully get a trial in this year 🤞🏻 Gatsby's titles now include: CGN ETD RN NS SGDC PCD RI S... Going to apply for his versatility title now that he qualifies! Hoping to get our RE, AGDC and ADC by the end of this year 🤞🏻 after that we might try focusing on obedience 😝😄 #canadiankennelclub #dogsports #dogtraining

With walks slowing down, I thought I would post some fun dog training videos for y'all 😁🧠🐾 During our trip to Pet Valu to get moving boxes, I thought it would be cool to teach Gatsby how to open the door using the accessibility button 😁😁 Why? No reason, he just loves to learn and I try and keep his busy mind stimulated!! Shaping, which is a method of dog training, helps the dog the opportunity to figure out new things for themselves by rewarding small behaviours and building upon them! This has been a life changer for us in agility and obedience! Hey pet parents!! Starting mid June, we have a spot opening up on Wednesday and Thursday for pack hikes! 🌳🐕 HOW DOES IT WORK? 🐾We pick up and drop off at your house 🐾We take the dogs for a 1.5-2hour hike in private, secluded areas. During the summer, the dogs always have access to clean water! 🐾 All dogs are started on leash for a private walk with one easy going dog, then slowly transitioned into the pack that would best suit them! 🐾 Dogs always return tired! Pack hikes provide both socialization and environmental stimulation (sniffing, running, swimming) 🐾 Packs stay as consistent as possible so the dogs can build healthy relationships with their buddies each week. Off topic post but I truly believe that dogs DESERVE training as much as they deserve fun. My dog earns fun (off leash hikes) because I trust his obedience and impulse control immensely. Not the other way around. If I notice any dips in his recall or focus, we work on it! Someone told me that I don't have control over my dog just because he was uncomfortable while being charged by off leash dogs while being on leash... This is him working off leash, in public - a completely controlled dog in an uncontrolled environment!
