I know some worry that the push for "buying local" might turn into an excuse for price gouging. I hear you, and I get it. I ask every business owner to see the human behind every purchase. 🐾 Kendra – The Top Dog aka founder, and the human behind the vision. Fueled by love for animals and a passion for wholesome, real food. 🐕‍🦺✨

🐾 Kilo – Our diligent CSO (Chief Snack Officer) and CPO (Chief Pawperations Officer). He takes security very seriously. He petitions daily for treat room “investigations” but Top Dog has yet to authorize these routine rounds. 👀 He wants all animals to know all Pawfection treats are technically his.

Yesterday’s Halloween-themed day at the Charlottetown Farmers' Market Co-operative was an absolute thriller! 👻

We had a blast seeing so many friendly faces, plus a few ghosts, ghouls—and of course, lots of adorable dogs! 🐾 Thanks to everyone who stopped by to check out our spooky chews and Halloween treats—our trachea, chicken heads, and chicken feet were a BIG hit! 🍗

A huge shoutout to my friend Taylor for tagging along and bringing the extra festive spirit. We even got to enjoy a flash mob dance to Michael Jackson’s Thriller! Can’t wait to see you all next weekend. 🧡🐕

Today was a beautiful day at the market! The crisp autumn air had us all bundling up, but the sunshine made it just right. The market was alive with energy. So many people were out and about, and we had a few four-legged visitors, both old friends and new ones. One little pup hung out with us for a while, and I’m still not convinced she’s not a teddy bear posing as a puppy! 🧸🐾 Her owner was the sweetest, and it was such a pleasure meeting them both.

It’s always a joy to connect with familiar faces and welcome new folks to the market. There was something special in the air today, and I hope everyone else felt it too. We can’t wait to see you all again next weekend!

Speaking of next weekend, Halloween at the market is going to be even more exciting! 🎃👻 We’ll have pumpkin carving, candy for the kids, and a spooky costume contest. Who knows, I might even dress up myself! 😉

Celebrate the love adopted animals bring to our lives! We’re launching Happy Tails: Stories of Adopted Love, a heartwarming yearly calendar showcasing your rescued pets—whether they have fur, feathers, fins, wings, hooves, or scales! 🐾

By sharing your adoption story, you’re not only honoring your animal—you’re also helping raise awareness about the joy and importance of adoption. 50% of the proceeds for 2025 calendar sales will be donated to PEI CARES, a local non-profit dedicated to rescuing and rehoming animals while educating the community on animal welfare. 🏡❤️

On this Truth and Reconciliation Day, we pause to honor the stories and resilience of Indigenous peoples.

This day carries profound significance, born from the heartbreaking experiences of survivors of the residential school system. We remember Phyllis Webstad, whose cherished orange shirt was taken from her when she was just six years old, symbolizing the loss of culture and identity that many Indigenous children faced. Her story—and the stories of countless others—remind us of the importance of recognizing and acknowledging the truths of our history.

We must acknowledge the impact of colonization, which tore apart families and nearly decimated entire populations, along with centuries of culture, knowledge, and wisdom. In 2024, it might be surprising to hear that there are still Indigenous adults learning their languages and meeting their families for the first time. However, this reality shouldn't shock us considering that the last residential school closed only in 1996, just 27 years ago. The effects of this painful history are ongoing, compounded by the realities of intergenerational trauma. Colonization didn’t just attempt to wipe out entire communities; it also disrupted Indigenous stewardship, leading to misunderstandings about our natural world.

As we reflect on these truths, we are called to appreciate the deep connection Indigenous cultures have maintained with the land for nearly 15,000 years. However, colonialism managed to inflict devastating damage in just a few hundred years.

At Pawfection, we believe in honoring these traditions, knowledge, and lessons. Let’s continue to listen, learn, and support reconciliation efforts, ensuring that the wisdom of the past shapes our future. We thank the Mi'kmaq, who know the island as 'Epekwitk,' meaning “lying in the water.” They have been the keepers of our land for over 12,000 years. 🧡

Today, we wear orange not just as a symbol of remembrance but as a commitment to understanding and respecting Indigenous cultures and their profound connection to the land we share, and as a nod to dear Phyllis, whose right to wear orange was taken from her.

We encourage everyone to take action: educate yourself about Indigenous history, support Indigenous businesses, and advocate for policies that promote reconciliation. Together, we can make a difference.
