🧡A great reminder from the Prince Edward Island National Park!
🐕🐶Leashing your dog on beaches doesn't just protect other dogs they may encounter, but also local wildlife. We're all excited to see our National Park Beaches open to dog-walking this time of year. But keeping everyone safe is an important part of enjoying the beauty of these places.
Leashing your dog helps ensure your dogs are safe from interactions with other dogs (who may be reactive or scared), helps keep other dogs safe from feeling scared of your dog, AND helps to ensure wildlife that call these spaces home are safe (after all, it's their home). It's a win-win-win!
Are you a dog lover? We are too. From October 16 to March 31, your favourite doggo is free to join you on PEI National Park beaches for a happy stroll.
Just a friendly reminder to keep your furry friends on a leash! Here's why:
🐦⬛Wildlife protection and preserving natural habitats: PEI National Park is a haven for diverse wildlife. Keeping your pup on a leash will keep your dog safe, help protect the park's delicate ecosystems, and ensure the safety of local wildlife such as shore birds, foxes, and seals. A reminder that sand dunes are off-limits to both humans and dogs. Every step matters, even little furry ones.
🐕🦺Respect for others: Some visitors may be uncomfortable or fearful around dogs. A leash helps you maintain control and ensures a positive experience for everyone.
🐶Safety first: Trails can be unpredictable. A leash provides added safety, preventing them from wandering into unsafe areas or encountering potential hazards. For example, poison ivy can still cause a reaction even in the chilly winter months.
PEI National Park is protected under the National Parks of Canada Domestic Animals Regulations. Protecting the park is a shared responsibility. If you have concerns or would like to report a violation, we encourage you to call Parks Canada’s Dispatch Line: 1-877-852-3100. Anyone found in violation of the regulation will be subject to a minimum fine of $100.
Leashing up is a small effort that makes a big impact. Share the leash love, and let's keep PEI National Park safe and enjoyable for everyone! Learn more about you and your dog at PEI National Park: https://parks.canada.ca/pn-np/pe/pei-ipe/visit/chien-dog
