The crows were roosting in land last night. The field below Ravenwood, the house that most recently housed Island Nature Trust and was the Director’s home for many years, was covered with crows, as were many trees. These photos were taken from the corner of The Trail and Allen Street.

This beautiful Belle (tree) is the last of 2 that still stands along this path, the lane what was once called Pottery Lane, on The Farm!

Catherine Hennessy wrote a book called ‘Pottery Lane’ about this place! She would refer to the trees as ‘The 12 Apostles’.

The 2003 fall hurricane ‘Juan’ brought the first large old elm down down. Several others came down in a planned culling of deceased elms.

It is so wonderful to have this beauty still with is. What should we call her?

Dear Friends and Friends of The Farm! Several of you have recently accepted an invitation to join us here on this page. THANK YOU for that! Many of you know, but for those who may not, The Farm is short for ‘The Agricultural Research Station in Charlottetown’, or as islanders coined it ‘The Experimental Farm’. It is an 88 acre parcel of green space, now in the centre of Greater Charlotetown, and has been connected to farmers all across the island since it’s beginning in 1909.

Ian Scott has kindly shared a link so that we easily have access to an an excellent history of The Farm from 1901-1984. Check it out. So many great photos too!

Dear Friends of the Farm and Friends of Friends of the Farm. Lol. These lovely faces are folks from the Sunday Hiking Group. We’ve hiked many trails over many years all over PEI. With our dear 4 legged friends, the dogs. This was our first hike/snowshoe together on The Farm. Hopefully several more hikes here in our future.

We are merely decoration in front of The Cereal Barn. This lovely commanding structure. How will we honour and purpose this building going into our future? How might our grandchildren and great grandchildren enjoy it?! Imagine it! And would love to hear your suggestions!

Michael Salter of Island Trails and ‘The Island Walk’ told us of amazing trails and the incredible ‘Island Walk’ work that their organization has been busy with. We highly recommend checking out their labour of love by walking the many trails they have been creating and maintaining.

Beautiful evening tonight on The Farm. We spotted what we think is a nut tree growing on the North West corner of where the old weather station use to be. The leaves felt furry- and the tree must be about 10 feet tall.

There was also standing water in the field south of Katie Moore Park. First time Ginger has seen standing water here during the summer. Wondering if the 141 ml that poured down during Hurricane Ida is the most recorded rainfall in August in Charlottetown at any one time.

And the new dorm buildings at UPEI are going to have some view! What Ginger finds especially pleasing about them is that they are on the true North/South axis.
