Foot lose rules ( no dancing at venue with live music) 🤔
This is our dear friends business she has been in a battle with the government over patrons dancing. Yes dancing! She is now looking at fine due to a patron dancing at her venue. Please take the time to read and share and send a short letter in support of her.
I NEED YOUR HELP!!
I am in need of letters from customers like you, who value what we offer at Be Teased and understand the importance of our entertainment options in the community. If you could take a minute to write a letter expressing your support for our business and the role we play in bringing people together, that would be greatly appreciated!
Please include your name and address on the letter and email it to [email protected]
I wanted to take a moment to update you on the challenges that Be Teased has been facing over the past year and a half. As you know, we are a family-friendly restaurant that offers a unique dining experience with live music and dancing. However, our efforts to continue providing this entertainment have been met with significant obstacles from the provincial government and a few of our neighbors.
Before I get too in-depth, I want to reiterate that my property is commercial and my food primary license allows for amplified music.
After expanding and adding live music to my venue, I was required to apply for a participation endorsement, which allows my patron’s to dance while enjoying great food and drinks (YES IT IS REAL FOOTLOOSE RULES!). The Provincial government believes that dancing will cause patrons to overindulge in alcohol, therefore shifting the focus away from food.
The process of the application involved putting up a billboard outside my establishment for 30 days, allowing neighbours within .8 km to oppose the application. Unfortunately, a few neighbours did so, and it is now under investigation.
As a result, I was forced to apply for a temporary patron participation endorsement, which allows for six nights of dancing for 2023 and then I reapplied again for an additional six nights for 2024. However, last night, the Liqour Inspector caught some patrons dancing on an evening when we were not allowed to. I am waiting to hear the verdict of what the repercussions are, but it is sounding like fines and even worse, losing my liquor license all together.
Given, I am an outdoor establishment, I want to assure you that I take the noise bylaw very seriously and ensure that all music is off by 11 PM. I also provide safe rides home for our patrons who might need them. Despite our best efforts to follow the rules, it seems the provincial government is determined to make an example out of me.
I believe that dancing brings happiness and joy to our community. In fact, I’ve noticed that many families with young children enjoy our live music and having the opportunity to dance together. It is not just about drinking, but about creating memories with loved ones.
The government needs to rethink its approach to liquor licensing. Unfortunately, the system seems designed to shut businesses like mine down rather than working with us.
I appreciate you all for your love and support. I couldn’t do this without you all!
I look forward to continuing to serve you and provide a fun, family-friendly atmosphere at Be Teased.
Much love ❤️ 💗 💕
