Pongo's Place Equine Sanctuary What started as a rescue mission has now morphed into a rescue/sanctuary. PPES started out rescuing horses about 30 years ago. etc.

Pongo's Place is a small equine sanctuary/rescue located minutes from Georgian Bay in Grey County. Most having come from the slaughter pipeline via the kill pens in Ottawa. Over the years the shift happed from mostly rescue/re-homing to sanctuary as many could not be re-homed due to either medical, physical or psychological issues. Most of our focus has shifted to providing a soft forever landing

to those that are unable to find a loving home we do still re-home whenever possible. This mission has always been funded by myself and my daughter however we are always open and appreciative any and all donations and we thank those who have contributed over the years from the bottom of our hearts. Sadly the cost of hay, bedding, meds, blankets etc. continues to rise but this is our life's mission and we will soldier on! I have just recently created this page and once I become less technically challenged I will add news, photos and stories of life at PPES. Note: profile picture is Pongo the sanctuary's namesake.

Meet Isaac, formerly known as Harry. Isaac came from another sanctuary where he had been surrendered by his previous owner. Isaac is in his late teens and has been with us for 10+ years. Isaac worked a 4 and 6 horse hitch until such time as his lamanitic foot made him un-reliable to use. Isaac was used extensively in a show home environment. He's a big saucy boy and noticeably misses his "girlfriend" Roxy.

Sadly our girl Roxy has crossed over the rainbow bridge. Roxy was a kill pen rescue. Bailed by some kind souls and sent to the sanctuary to spend the rest of her days. Roxy's been with us for 10+years and well into her 20's. With no history or any other info about her we spent the years getting to know her. She was extremely shy and untrusting. It took years for her to accept us picking up her feet and she just didn't know how to accept love and affection. Except when it came to carrots. lol. Her mobility had been an on-going issue in the last year and it was decided this past December to release her from the pain and struggle.
