Keesridge Kennels

Keesridge Kennels Preservation Keeshond breeders located in southern Ontario. We are a mother/daughter duo with our own homes and dogs, working together.
(13)

Members of the Keeshond Club of Canada, breeding only fully health tested, champion dogs to the Keeshond Standard. We are a very small 'kennel' based in 2 locations in Southern Ontario. We are looking to ensure healthy, sound, and standard Keeshonden, in both the show ring and as pets. We health test all of our bi***es prior to breeding, and only breed to health tested males. We also compete in CK

C/AKC/International and UKC Conformation, rally, scent work, barn hunt, obedience and lure coursing events. All of our dogs live in our homes, and not in a kennel. All puppies are born and raised in our homes, and are loved as part of the family before moving on to their own families. We hope that you enjoy our site, and that you can see how much a part of the family our girls (and boy) are to us! We are not breeders who place our girls after they are done showing or having puppies. They are our family first and foremost. However, if you are looking for an older Keeshond, please consider Keeshond Rescue. There are many Kees of all ages who need new and forever homes! Please see our "Links" page on our website for more information.

Finally something written with reason 🙂

Hello friends!

The total solar eclipse is just around the corner, and just about everyone is ready to see the once in a lifetime event. We are seeing some mixed information about pet/wildlife safety.

Contrary to what some may read, the sun itself is not any more dangerous during the eclipse. The reason protective eye wear is recommended for humans (who wish to observe the eclipse) is because many of us will be staring directly at the sun that day, which is something we typically avoid.

For our pets, and outdoor wildlife, that day will be similar to any other day. Our pets don’t stare at the sun, so there is no need to keep them indoors on April 08 for any extended period of time. They may notice the change in temperature, but it is unlikely they will exhibit any unusual behaviour.

The eclipse can be more unsettling for birds. The dimming of the sky can mimic behaviour at dusk and during early storm formation, so some birds may demonstrate a wind-down behaviour and there may be less activity in the sky during the peak eclipse. Once the sky returns to normal, so does their behaviour.

If you are purchasing eclipse glasses, please make sure they meet these criteria. For additional information about the eclipse please see:
https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/safety/

For a list of approved solar-viewing goggles please see:

https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/viewers-filters

It is not safe to watch the eclipse through the lens of your smartphone - it can damage both your phone camera and your eyes. Try this instead:

Safe watching our friends!

We have a 2.5 year old intact girl born November 2021 in Newfoundland who is looking for her perfect forever home! Ava is a gorgeous girl who is a Canadian champion, very loyal and loving with her owner, loves to be brushed and has an easy to care for coat. She walks well on a leash, is completely trained, including some basic obedience with the typical Keesie “I’ll do what I want” attitude at times. She can take a little bit to warm up to strangers, but is very loving when she does. She’s food motivated, easy to redirect if she loses attention to other dogs or in crowds. She can be leash reactive to other dogs, however as mentioned, can be redirected with positive reinforcement and food motivation. She loves playing tug and fetch, no food aggression, sleeps in her crate every night with no fuss and is a wonderful traveller. She’s not destructive in the house, and is fine unsupervised with no separation anxiety. She’s been raw fed and minimally vaccinated, with titres recently done for Parvo and distemper.

The reason for the placement is Ava doesn’t get along well with the female West Highland White Terriers she shares her home with anymore. We have all decided, as hard as it is for her owner who loves her very much, it is in everyone’s best interest, all dogs included, to find Ava a home where she is with male dogs or an only dog. She is good with cats, and large dogs as well. It’s also best if she’s not with young children as she has not had exposure to them and we want to ensure we set everyone up for success in this placement.

If you are interested in Ava, please send in an application to us, which we will first review, and then forward to her owner to further consider. We thank you for your interest in her :)

Did you know that there are more ways to sterilize your pet than spay and neuter? Hormone-sparing sterilization maintains natural hormone levels and includes hysterectomy (for females) and vasectomy (for males). Studies show that the balance of hormones plays an important role for many parts of the body, not just for s*x organs. Spay and neuter can cause negative health and behavior outcomes, which depend on several factors, such as breed, age, and more.

A great read!

Titer has become a very important and often controversial term in today’s veterinary world. No laboratory test in my memory has been more misunderstood, misinterpreted, misused, and downright maligned by owners and veterinarians alike. The most extreme example is the rabies vaccination. While this...
