We culled about 25 roosters this evening. I couldn't find anyone who wanted them so into the green bin they went. The girls will do so much better now that they won't be tormented by all of the boys. Let's hope egg production goes up!

It was a hot weekend at Ross Farm Museum but there was lots of lemonade for those working.

One of the Chimney Swift hatchlings fell out of its nest last weekend so Hope for Wildlife was gracious enough to take it to Seaforth and keep it for a few days to make sure it was OK. Yesterday, one of the volunteers came to Rosebank Cottage to place it back in the chimney with the hope that mom will feed it. Judging by the hatchlings' vocal chords, they are all doing very well. The nest fell from the side of the chimney and landed on the mesh screen above the hearth opening but the parents are still able to look after them.

Great news! The Chimney Swifts that built a nest in the chimney of Rosebank Cottage at Ross Farm Museum have hatched. Look how tiny the eggshells are. We counted 3 shells so hopefully all 3 mature. These birds are protected in Canada so we won't be using the fireplace until the fall.

Surprise!! New hatch today. She presented these babies to us after hatching them somewhere on the property. I counted 14 little nuggets.

Today, I sold 2 dozen eggs to a person who is leaving tomorrow to sail across the Atlantic to the Azores. Even though I won't be going anywhere anytime soon, it's exciting to know that Klayhurst eggs are travelling far.

Geese have been found. They were hanging around the lake across the road from us.

Missing...2 domestic grey/brown geese with orange beak and feet(Toulose geese). They went for a walkabout on Sunday and haven't returned. They would be in the Mill Road/Wallaback area of New Ross. Spread the word in the area.

Finally! After cobbling together the salvaged pieces from our 2 greenhouses that blew down a number of years ago, we have a new 1 considerably smaller but usable. There is some tweeking yet to do but production will soon begin. It's not pretty but I am sure the plants won't mind!!
