Don't underestimate the power of SITTING YOUR ASS DOWN in the middle of a trail.
Humor me if you feel so inclined to read:
I struggle with the idea of slowing down with my dog pals because I really do want to give my clients the most bang for their buck. I don't like the idea of a dog going home and the owners not noticing a shift in their dog's energy level. I want the dogs to be tired for you.
It was what I would call doggy mindfulness. I picked up a tip somewhere along the line that said give your dog time and space to take in their environment. Stand still (or sit) with them in a safe outdoor place and let them look around. Take it all in.
I've been trying this on for a few months, and the shifts are really cool to watch. I see anxiety prone dogs get a chance to remember they are safe. I see their little bodies change. Ears soften, eyes soften. I feel them ground. When this change takes place, I offer treats. Some dogs have learned to not feel safe outdoors when not on the constant go. Share with them the wealth of SLOWING the f down.
It's a hard concept.......even for us humans!!! How often do we actually take the time to just absorb our environment? Just take it allllll in? These dam phones are so distracting.
When their heads are down, when they are walking or running constantly, they are SO stimulated. This idea of offering the opposite felt like a waste of time. But I started testing with short durations, and when the time is right, we make it longer.
Yesterday, I had a 6 pack. Generally, I endure the chaos. Usually, once everyone poos and has about 10 minutes to settle, the chaos subsides somewhat. Not this time. I recognize these days happen. Not all days are dreamy at this job (or any job)
The energy was building more, corrections that usually work are not, the leashes are endlessly tangled, and they are ignoring me. Cool.
So, I pop a squat. I just sit the F down.. I didn't care who was watching or the future state of my pantaloons.
It was EXACTLY what was needed at the time. Not one of them was fighting it. They all settled nicely. The remaining 30 min of the walk were excellent.

I received a magical gift today from my parents.

What a WEEK we've had here!
From cold and windy to a winter wonderland. We had levitating dogs, snow ball dogs, grinch paws, sniff huddles, tonnes of cancelations, and some adjustments to the normal routines.
Although I missed some of my pals this week, it was so much fun to be out with the dogs every single time things aligned. Even had the space for a free play, and my son joined. As you can see, Angus LOVES Felix.
I hope you all were able to soak in some magical moments this week out in nature ♡

I LOVE the restart button that January 1st offers.
I genuinely wish you all a great year.
Moving forward, I will be doing more of a weekly photo/video dump for you guys to see what your cuties are up to. I will also randomly privately send photos here and there.
One of my goals right now is being more present in my moments at home, with less clicking. I am more attached to my phone at this time than I want to be.
Please feel free to reach out if you ever want an update on how the walks are going for your dogs or just to say hi. I still love sharing about our adventures, and keeping connections with all the dogs' families is important to me.

What a lovely walk. Sometimes I get small groups, and special walks where some pals with recall can rip it leash free, or get a longer lead for exploring. They were VERY happy.
