Another Northwestern coop for Pinantan Lake, Homesteader 32’s are going like hen scratch up there! This one came with an XL Hat to keep things extra dry around the perimeter. Comfortable digs for 10-12 hens with a run extension. It’s a locally crafted, insulated, all season raised henhouse. Egg/beer shelf, perching patio, 4 nest boxes, 3 tiered interior roosts as well as a one in the basement for those hot summer days….what more could your hens ask for?

We've recently acquired four Lavender Orpingtons, they're pretty social ladies and enjoy square dancing every evening. Here the caller just announced "and a Allamende Right!" And, if you're not sure you're ready for live chickens, I can provide some practice wooden ones for you. Also, our little chicks are growing and getting more adventurous.

Out with the old and in with the new in downtown Kamloops; Peavy Mart coop replaced with a Northwestern Coop! Four hens were pretty cramped and stressed in the Peavey coop, especially the tiny hen house during winter. A couple of them had bald patches on their head from picking, but now….comfort and lots of roosting space.

Freshly laid coop! Homesteader 32 heading for new home at Pinantan Lake. Locally crafted, beautiful, insulated, all season henhouse. Four nesting boxes, windows with views, egg shelf, pleasant ventilation, predator meshed on 3 sides to allow for run extension on pop-hole end. Perching patio adjacent to the catwalk and shade below for hens to roost and talk fowl. Can comfortably and humanely house 10-12 feathered friends.

My favourite use of eggs! These Black Bean Brownies are awesome and easy. Just toss all ingredients but the choco chips into a blender, press go, pour into parchment paper lined pan, cook for 20-25 at 350. Eat. Don't eat with vanilla ice cream, as the brownies just don't last as long.

Just cut and pre-stained the trim for the current coop build. We've got a broody hen so decided to see how successful Buddy the Rooster has been in his endeavours. Also put in some fertilized Ameraucana eggs from a family in town. Next Wednesday the peeping should start!

Homesteader 16! This insulated raised hen house is 16 square feet, has perimeter mesh on three sides with a hatch. Fourth side can easily accommodate the addition of farm fencing to expand/move the enclosure as you wish. Perch, nest boxes and ladder are all removable for cleaning. Interior has primer and 2 coats of semi-gloss washable paint. Window with a view. Solid four season construction with adjustable ventilation, can comfortably house five hens.

This model is also available in 24 and 32 square foot versions.
If you have a covered area and require just the henhouse we can do that too.

Picked up some materials, will be starting a new build: Homesteader 16, a smaller, stripped down coop.

Installed some electric fencing on our home set-up as hungry spring bears are now out. Hens are settled in for the night.

Interior of Luxury Coop...easy to maintain, insulated, predator proof, beautiful views. Note the vent/electrical access pipe beside the waterer, this will permit simple hookup of power for lighting or supplemental heating. Two easy to clean nest boxes with a storage hatch above for feed, treats, tools etc. If you are interested in having a coop of your own constructed please send a message to start the conversation.

After constructing Megacoop we built some smaller luxury coops for sale. Pictured here is a 5'x10' portable run with 4'x5' insulated henhouse and cedar siding. Plenty of room for 3-4 hens. We have also had enquiries on similar outdoor structures for cats, which we think would suit the purpose well. We can build to suit.

Some pics of Megacoop construction and inspectors. After years of using a quickly built and poorly designed chicken coop (constantly bumping our heads, slipping on the way out, cursing the cleanout, dealing with frozen waterers and hunting around for mislaid eggs...) we made a plan and Megacoop was well worth the effort. Having chickens is fun again!

The henhouse floor is covered in linoleum which runs 12" up the walls and can be lowered at the access door to make for easy cleaning (that's what the cat is perched on). The walls and ceiling are insulated with Durofoam rigid insulation and 3" vents are located high and low to keep a fresh supply of air moving thru the henhouse. Windows also have sliders to increase airflow and keep it cool in summer. The four nest boxes are easy to check each morning, and cleaning is a snap. Four boxes for our 9 hens is perfect. We have tried many types of waterers over the years and find a plain old feed bucket to be the easiest to maintain!

The run has two wide doors on east and and west to make feeding, watering and cleaning easy. Hens are protected with 1/2" x 1" heavy-duty 14 gauge galvanized mesh, which makes for restful sleeps for the hens and us as well. The mesh also extends out away from the wall for 18 inches as a buried apron to prevent digging under by foxes and coyotes. The floor of the run and exterior apron were covered in 6-8 inches of gravel to keep things dry, provide grit and make cleaning easy. All perches and ramps can be easily lifted out or modified.

Spring is on it's way and we're starting to plan for the season. Here's some pics of one of last years projects. This is Megacoop; a Douglas-fir post and beam 8'x24' run with 8'x8' raised insulated henhouse. Constructed for our own use, it currently houses 9 hens and a rooster with plenty of room in and out.
