Slightly late fire update: all evacuation alerts and orders have been rescinded! Yay!! The road is back open through to Barriere and Little Fort ferry and business is back to normal here.

More good news! Ferdinand came for her second visit!! She’s growing and getting taller but still as fluffy 🥰

Little Abby. 15 years old and still as spunky as a pup. She can’t see or hear so good anymore but she would not be left behind when the gang went for group walk. I was so impressed with her energy and confidence, she’s one of my favourite seniors already and we just met 🧡

With the rain yesterday and the fresh air without smoke today, it’s nice to relax and not think about fire for a bit. I have a bunch of pictures to catch up on so here’s the first batch from last week.

Clear skies and no smoke always make for a hopeful morning. The fire was attacked in force yesterday and the weather cooperated with cool temps and little wind. The wind has shifted to the south so I don’t know if I could see smoke if there was any. The fire is still classified as uncontrolled but it hasn’t been updated yet today and the evac orders/alerts are still in place. Fingers crossed that changes soon. When that happens, it’ll be back to business as usual. For the next week, I will be taking daycare bookings as usual but boarding will be limited to 6. Thank you to everyone for your support and understanding during this stressful time. I do appreciate each and every one of you. 💜💜💜

Things can change fast around here. Evacuation orders were delivered to the north end of Dunn Lake last night. Evacuation alerts have tripled and are in place from the south end of the pavement, up the switchback, and all the way to Dunn Lake. Fire personnel and aircraft will be attacking the fire today in force. I hope they are successful and safe. I’m about a km outside the alert area but like I said at the beginning, things can change fast. If I go on evacuation alert, I will let you all know and will be cancelling any upcoming reservations. Stay safe out there.

Little, fluffy Ferdinand has come for a visit and I couldn’t be happier. I think fluffy puppies should be used in therapy. It’s impossible not to love her 🥰

We got a little rain this morning which was wonderful. Not nearly enough rain but I’ll take what I can get. The Jasper evacuees are on everyone’s mind these days, my heart breaks for everyone who has been affected.
The fire in this area, while more than doubling in size to 1260 hectares, hasn’t gotten much closer, just wider. The smoke has cleared, thank goodness. Fresh air makes it easy to forget it’s there. I’ve attached a screen shot of the BCWS map with my house drawn in to give you an idea of distance. My house is the x in the not so round circle.

The hooligans have been so happy to run and play in much cooler conditions. They definitely keep me entertained. And many of you too, I hear 😉

The cooler weather today is such a welcome relief from the heat. The light sprinkle of ash has also stopped so hopefully the fire has slowed down and rested during the night. It’s overcast so I can’t really tell the difference between cloud and smoke today but I can smell it. Wind and rain is forecast for later this evening and tomorrow. Waiting for an update on the bc wildfire app, yesterday the fire had grown from 4.5 hectares to 350.

On another note, Billy doesn’t like bugs (flies, bees, wasps, etc) but they sure love him. This series of pics took place in about 10-15 seconds. 🪰🐝🦟

To be honest, I wasn’t sure how today was going to go down. The wind and lightning last night took me right back to 2017 when I was evacuated as the fire came over the mountain into view. I stayed up most of the night watching the bright glow from over the mountain, slightly to the left of it’s last path. It’s out by Dunn Lake which is still quite a ways away (18 km) but those winds last night could have moved it here by morning if they were consistent. Thankfully, they were not and things calmed down in the early hours. There was a little bit of rain but not nearly enough. The lightning was so crazy, I lost count and it was only moving closer. I think until this fire is contained, I will be limiting the number of dogs (size dependant) in case of a quick evac. No more bookings will be taken for this week. If I have your dog(s), please have someone available on notice to pick up your dog in the event I do have to leave. If I have to move everyone out, I will post where I land and dogs can be picked up there. Stay safe out there. It’s going to be a long fire season.
