Blue-Green Algae is very dangerous for dogs, as well as people and other animalsโ—

What is is though?
Warm weather promotes the growth of cyanobacteria in bodies of fresh water which is toxic when ingested.

The Algae can stick to the dogs fur and then when they clean themselves it gets into their system, so even if you think your dog will not drink the water do not let them swim in it either!

Here are some signs of toxicity from blue-green algae to watch for:
โ— Panting
โ— Excessive Drooling
โ— Diarrhea
โ— Disorientation
โ— Respiratory Failure
โ— Seizures
โ— Liver Failure
โ— Vomiting
โ— Collapse/Unconsciousness
โ— Weakness / Lethargic
โ— Death

If your dog is showing any symptoms of toxicity contact a vet immediately! Monitor vital signs and provide emergency first aid assistance.

Here is a reference chart of the different kinds of ticks which can be found in Canada. And yes, the Lone Star tick has been found in Ontario.

Most donโ€™t realize how small ticks are. Remember to do those tick checks every time you come in from outdoors!

Sniff walks are called a variety of different terms including dog-led walking, decompression walks, scent walks, free walks, and sniffaris. The general idea is to provide your dog with the opportunity to take the lead over where they walk, to not be pulled along, and to get to sniff and explore as much as they want.

Not only is this fun for dogs, but it also can be a great way for dogs to burn off stress and decompress after stressful events like a visit to the vet or groomer, or from having visitors in your home.

Besides color challenges, dogs typically have 20/75 vision. What this means is that they must be 20 feet from an object to see it as well as a human standing 75 feet away. This is part of the reason our k9s rely so much on those wonderful noses โค๏ธ

Seeing eyes more often today ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿถ

Indie's pups are entering the Transitional Period of their development & eyes opening is the very first behavioural milestone. They're also getting stronger and more coordinated with their movement.
We'll be watching very closely for signs that their ears are opening - we'll know that they are hearing when they begin startling when they hear a sudden sound.

We're getting closer & closer to the fun puppies bring to us every time ๐Ÿพ

A fun visual representation of what your dog sees (smells) every day. Look at how noisy it is and how many tracks there are intertwining. The different animals, people, and dogs movement in just one area. The snow lets us humans see the history of this area and what animals and people have passed through. A dog will smell this every day and know who and what animals have passed through. Smellavision!!!!

Dogs are incredible.

Imagine tracking and detection dogs needing to filter out all this noise and track a single scent down. Amazing!

(Note this is a fun representation, not accurate)
