We are looking for all the sights of spring on the farm during this cold snap.
We have flowers blooming, baby watermelon seedling sprouting and I dare say we see some giant pumpkin seeds cracking through too.

We had delicious Christmas Eve snacks from .and.spade it was full of variety, color and tasted absolutely amazing. Bonus points for being all local products. Can’t wait to enjoy them again today as we spend a quiet day together.

We decided to supplement, with some light in our coop this winter, we added a low wattage LED light, for a couple hours in the am, and a couple hours in the late afternoon to eve. We are super excited, as we just got our first winter eggs!

I am sooooo excited to have a proper stand! It needs some small repair and a little clean up, plus the Mister said he will build a canopy over top, but I officially have a proper “farm stand” watch for its arrival to the driveway.
💖 It’s the little things, but I’m beyond excited and full of pride to fill this with all things pretty &/or delicious, sooner than later.
This year we grew Dragon Tongue beans, they are said to have a light nutty flavor. We are excited to give them a try.
We will have a couple fresh bunches on the stand this afternoon, if you wish to try them yourselves.
We are keeping half this huge haul for our own winter consumption.

For all the trials and tribulations of farming, these are the wins!
Such pretty berries! A fresh handful every night. Things may be a little behind, but this heat has been a nice boost to the garden.
How is your garden doing? What do you look forward to the most?
I’m a lover of the peas but I am most excited for the broccoli, it’s my best broccoli growing season yet.
Ahhh look at that beautiful bounty. For a garden that has been more stress than wins this spring, this was a fabulous feeling to bring in!
The beans are blanched and in the freezer, raspberries are already eaten and well the cucumbers that was my oldest and his over excitement at our harvesting, so we will see what those taste like 🤣

I love walking the yard to see how much everything is growing and coming into season.
I suspect we will have figs in the next few weeks, persimmon are vast in numbers, apples and crabapples are plentiful and we might get a dozen peaches off our poor tree. It needs some love at the end of the season. 🍑 next year will be better.
In addition we have hazelnuts and walnuts that I’m currently reading and learning all about.

PRUNING TOMATO PLANTS
"Pruning indeterminate plants will not increase overall tomato production but will give you larger fruit earlier in the season. Regularly look for and prune suckers on the lower third of the stem as they appear on the plant A sucker is a nonflowering, leafy shoot that grows in the joint between branches and the main stem of the plant. In short-season locations, pruning will allow the plant to focus energy on fruit production. If left on the plant, suckers unnecessarily divert water and energy that would otherwise be used for fruit development."

Treats for the hens. Harvested our first bunch of spinach, and some went to seed, so guess who’s gets all the greens? 🐓
But we kept some for 👨👩👦👦 us too!
We have lettuce (3 kinds), arugula, spinach, and some early strawberries ready for eating.
