On this first day of Breast Cancer awareness month, I look back and honour those who have blazed the trail before me and those who continue to carry the torch forward. To the researchers, the medical teams, the fundraisers, the families, the supporters of all walks of life, I say THANK YOU. Thank you for allowing me to get past this hurdle, to get healthy, to be stronger than I ever thought possible. Thank you for letting me fight this battle and win. Thank you for the joys I get to continue to experience. I’m one of the lucky ones and I don’t take this lightly as I lost both my mother and my cousin to cancer, along with other family members. “Life is a gift” has new meaning for me and I will always carry gratitude every single day.

Sometimes the simple things in life are so breathtaking you need a moment to just absorb it all.

The last few weeks have been busy with work, life, farm chores etc. After a long day in the city, I came home to a magical dinner that my sweet husband made, including a bottle of champagne ❤️. Then we had some snuggle time with our 16.5 year old border collie Tessa. Every extra day with her is a blessing.

Then a rainbow photo that says it all.

Today is a BIG DAY at Cobblestone Farm

25 years ago today I moved to this magical farm in Northumberland County. I took a leap of faith that has provided such a wonderful life for me and my family.

If you’ve ever been to Cobblestone Farm you likely understand why I made the move. Although there have been a few challenging times over the last 25 years; I wouldn’t change a thing.

I have and will continue to cherish every day that I am blessed to live here.

Thank you to everyone who has supported my journey. What a ride!
Much love,
Sam

Today I said F YOU to cancer when I hiked The Old Man of Storr, the highest, and most iconic of the series of rock formations on the Trotternish Peninsula on Isle of Skye, Scotland. It’s a monolith rising to 49m (160ft) and is 3.8km long. Although it wasn’t easy for me to climb; I had something to prove and I’m proud of this accomplishment.

Today I finished my last radiation treatment.
Today I walked out of the hospital with a new outlook.
Today I promised to keep on fighting for myself and for all of those who are facing their own challenges.

The last 6+ months have not been easy. For me, my husband, my family or my friends. September 15th will be a day I’ll never forget…the day I was told I had breast cancer. I choose to be open and tell my story so that I could have my team rally along side with me. Some people jumped on board right away, and some people didn’t but that’s ok.

To those friends and family that have been beside me throughout this journey, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.

Last night, David made a special dinner for us. We sat outside as the sun set, sipping champagne and shared our gratitude for each other and the life we have been blessed with.

Tomorrow I will continue my journey of gratitude.
Tomorrow I will start a new chapter in my life.
Tomorrow I will wake with the knowledge I made it through this nightmare.

If you or someone you love is fighting cancer and need to talk, I am here for you, always

2023
A year to remember…
A year to forget…
Oh how things can change in a blink of an eye…

2023 started out with all the excitement in the world. Our wedding was only six short month away. Those first six months flew by and before we knew it, June 30 arrived and we had the most memorable day!

A few weeks later I noticed something “strange” and decided to see my GP. It was decided that I should have a mammogram, then a biopsy.
Then came the news no one wants to hear…

On September 15, 11 weeks to the day David and I said our vows, I was told I had breast cancer. The initial diagnosis and treatment sounded straight forward…but…after further investigation, the cancer was found in at least one more spot, more tests needed to be done. Our world seemed to be spinning out of control.

On December 12 I had a double mastectomy with reconstruction.
On December 18 I contracted an infection.
On December 21 I had a second surgery to remove the infection.
On December 23 I was allowed to come home.

Thank you to the incredible teams at Northumberland Hills Hospital (Cobourg) and St. Michael’s Hospital (Toronto). The care I received was nothing short of amazing.

To the trailblazing women who have travelled this journey before me, thank you for sharing your wisdom and strength. I promise to do the same for other women who need our guidance.

To my work family at Adapt Media, thank you for your unwavering support throughout all of this.

To my family and friends, thank you for all of your love, support, calls, emails, texts, video chats, food, flowers and comforting gifts. It’s your love that helps make each day a bit easier and a bit brighter.

And finally, to my incredible husband, David Thompson. I couldn’t have endured these last six months without you. You truly are my North Star, my rock, my soul and my strength. I love you today, tomorrow and always.

My cancer journey is not over and we don’t know what the future holds but for today I feel blessed. For seeing the sun rise, for knowing I am loved, for ushering in a new year ❤️

It’s hard to believe it’s been almost a week and we still have snow in November!! That said, the farm does look particularly pretty this time of year. Come see for yourself!
