10.5 month old Maui had an awesome weekend finishing his open scent containers and interiors!! Unfortunately, a p*e on a dumpster during the exterior search stopped him from completing his open title completely. It’s hard being an adolescent male! But, overall the judges and volunteers were impressed with his performance for being such a young dog in the open class! Go Maui!!

Feeling pretty spoiled by this girl. I’ve been sick this week, and on Thursday, I went to bed around 5pm, and apart from bathroom/water breaks, stayed in bed sleeping until 7am the next morning. This girl stayed by my side all night. Didn’t even leave to investigate when her dad took Rundle out for a walk that evening. She is the most loyal, momma’s girl. Making sure I have company until I’m feeling better and can play again. 🥰

Well after Summit’s awesome groom yesterday, we are spending the next few days at a horse barn in her first CKC agility trial of the year. She had one beautiful standard run today, where she hit everything perfectly including the wrong jump I sent her over 🤦‍♀️ Hopefully I can get my head together for her next 4 runs over the weekend 🤞

2024 was a pretty great year for Rundlemtn Retrievers. However, we cannot wait for 2025! With new litter plans, more training and more competitions… it’s going to be great! Goldens on average live 10-12 years. So, I, like many others have made a silent agreement with my dogs that they have to at least see double digits with me before they leave this earth. Unfortunately, many of Rundle’s friends were not able to fulfill this silent promise. So I vowed that we would appreciate every moment, and if Rundle saw her 10th birthday, we would make a big deal of it! Yesterday, we took off work, and stopped at Peyto Lake, Abraham Lake, stayed over night at Pyramid Lake Lodge, and then stopped at Athabasca Falls on our way back home. We made the last couple of days all about our girl Rundle, who thankfully still has plenty of puppy vigour! I hope we still have years left with our girl, but I am definitely thankful for these memories. We love you, Rundle! Happy 10th Birthday!!🎂 🎉 🎈

In the past 2-weeks, I have been told my 2 of our puppy families that they are interested in trying agility. And Miss Penny got invited by a trainer to be a part of their scent hurdle team! And this is why I will never be the breeder that only sells puppies to dog sport homes and not pet homes. I once said to someone, “you never know what people might decide to try when they have a smart, and athletic dog.” And similarly, persons can have big aspirations for sports, but then time, life and finances get in the way. From our last litter, two of the puppies when to sporting homes, and two of the puppies went to pet homes, and now ALL the puppies are getting involved in dog sports. I’m thrilled!! It’s my dream to one day have a bunch of our puppies at agility competitions with me… that may be a long way off, but I look forward to the possibility. In the meantime, here is cute Cassie (first born, living in the US) at her agility training class, excitedly waiting for her turn. Cassie is almost 16 months old. Still a little too young (need to be 18 months) to compete, but she’ll be soaring over jumps in the future!!

Pups are starting to explore each other and mom a bit more. There eyes are just the slightest bit open, but the real fun is yet to come! Also, yes, we upgraded to pretty collars today 🥰

In case anyone was wondering what does 1-2 week early scent introduction and early neurological stimulation looks like, here is me doing a walk-through with Apple. These minor exposures and stressors challenges their central nervous system, so they are better able to recover from minor stressors, when they are older. It also sets the foundation for them to be comfortable with all kinds of handling. Handling exercises start to amp up at 3wks.
