Sunset Valley Stables

Sunset Valley Stables Sunset Valley Stables is a private boarding and breeding facility nestled in the hills of Grand Valley Rd, NW of Cochrane, AB.

Sunset sunset valley is the first breeder in Canada to breed Czech warmbloods -Kinsky horses also called Golden horses of Bohemia. These warmbloods are the oldest warmblood breed in Europe . They originated in Czech Republic and the history goes back to years 1200
They are named after count Kinsky who started the stud book in nineteen century. After the Second World War these horses almost went e

xtinct under the communism’s regime and there was only few of them left. Thanks to few breeders the horses were saved from extinction and in year 2000 they received the protection from Queen Elizabeth ll
Now the numbers are rising but there is still only over a thousand of them in the all world. These horses are very versatile excel in jumping, dressage, steeplechase and driving. They are highly trainable, have very good minds and stamina and beautiful golden colours and buckskin and smoky palominos. At Sunset Valley stables we are proud to present the breeder program of these exceptional horses

Round

What does it mean to make your horse round? Contrary to what many believe, round, when it pertains to the horse, is not in the neck but rather in the back. Sadly, the hyper fixation on having a particular head set is part of a larger problem which stems from the lack of understanding in what a properly moving horse looks like, as well as how horses use their body to help themselves balance and move when they lack the physical strength and training to be in self carriage. Any position, regardless of whether it is considered "healthy" and correct, if held consistently throughout the ride will create tension. Suppleness is brought by constant changes in posture throughout the training session, however these position can never be forced or held by the rider, only encouraged and guided.

Roundness itself refers to the back of the horse, who through correct training is able to carry himself with his hind as opposed to pulling himself along and "grabbing ground" with the forelegs. The measure of self carriage is by assessing the angle of the spine and the engagement of the abdominal muscles and hind end through high-level movements.

Spending plenty of time in walk, particularly at the beginning of a session, is really beneficial for loosening up the joints, back and muscles.

This is particularly useful over the winter months when your horse may spend more time in the stable.

If you'd like to learn more about the walk, join our webinar Understanding & Assessing Your Horse's Movement: Part 1 - The Biomechanics of Walk on Wednesday 1 February 2023.
