Quick pupdate regarding scheduling. I’m booked solid well into June and thru the summer months but I’m currently filling whatever spaces are left those months. Spaces are weekdays only, Tuesdays to Thursdays (sorry but my Fridays and Saturdays are booked thru Christmas), new dogs under 50 lbs welcome.

And yes, all those soggy soot sprites came off that tiny little terrier lol

Having a wildly unprofessional - and embarassing - moment over here. My coffee cup somehow wound up dumped on my (unfortunately handwritten) waitlist and it is now entirely illegible. And I feel like an idiot 🤦🏻‍♀️

So…if your pup has been waiting for a call to join my grooming family, please PM or text me with your name & contact info and some details about your dog (name, weight, age). I am very sorry for this. I will be starting with a few new puppers between April to June. And I’ll digitize my list to avoid this happening again.

My weight limit is 50 lbs, just a reminder. 🙏🏻

My best pal Finley let me know as soon as he arrived that he was ready for his Spring clean-up by climbing on the table and waiting for me to get started. Finley’s a regal senior fella and he requires a bit of extra support staying steady on the table - normally I don’t share pics of dogs in a belly strap but it is there for his safety which is my #1 priority. It is loose as you can see, not putting any pressure on his tummy and internal organs. It is simply there to keep him centered on the table so he doesn’t step too close to the edge while I work on him. I am and will always be a minimal restraint groomer. Thanks for making my morning a little extra special, old friend.

Hi everyone,

My own two dogs Hawksley & Violet will be spending more time at the shop with me from now on. This is a very big shift in their routine. They are wonderful girls but like many dogs they struggle when overwhelmed and need space to feel at ease, especially when they are in the safety of their pen. I ask that you please refrain from peeking through/around the orange barrier wall to see them when they are here. They are fearful of strangers and can be reactive toward you as well as toward uncontrolled dogs approaching their space. Always keep your dogs leash in hand and do not remove it. I ask that you please remain in the entry area outside of the gated workspace. I am working hard with my girls to ensure they feel the same degree of comfort and safety I offer each and every one of my clients dogs.

Heads up Cochrane! Has pupper been unusually itchy lately? Do you frequent the dog park or doggy daycare? Or does pup have doggy bff’s they romp with regularly? These uglies might be the cause. February thru April are when I find them most frequently.

You can grab a treatment at your vet or any pet supply store to make sure pup isn’t playing host to these guys. Groomers are always the first to find them, often while we’re drying the dogs (which means a lengthy clean-up process of the entire shop). We have the unique opportunity of seeing your dogs skin so we find them long before you might.

Huuuuuuge makeover for my bestest kiddos Lizzie and Charlie today. Their owners adored their long coats but they wanted to try something new today so this is what I came up with.

Moment of pride today as I mark my 12th anniversary in business. From humble beginnings in a 130 square foot room (first pic) to my first storefront, and now settled comfortably in my permanent shop here in Cochrane.

I made $10 on my first day in business. And not a penny my second day. By the end of my first month I was grooming every day. By the end of my first year I was booked a few weeks out. Now I keep my books full a year in advance. Voted Calgary’s best groomer multiple times. Survived my shop flooding in the midst of a global pandemic.

Nothing in life is set in stone. Change is growth. Never imagined having my own place outside of Rascals where I started. Never dreamed I’d uproot my business and move it to a new town. Couldn’t have predicted how the grooming industry would get such an incredible boost while the world shut all the doors during the chaos of Covid. What a ride.

Grateful for every minute of these last twelve years. Thank you all for being a huge part of this adventure.

My bestest baby boy Rosko had an extra 4 weeks of growth on his coat today. Would you believe he’s still got 3/4” left on his leggy body with that much left on the floor? Such a handsome fella! 😍

Baby Harry again, here he is learning about clippers. This is how I start babies out with all of my equipment - groomers use a LOT of different tools for each task and some can be pretty frightening not just the first time but later in life too. I take the time to let pup sniff and explore each item and hear and feel them everywhere on their body before ever using the tools to do the work. Puppy was curious and interested, and he allowed me to gently move the clipper all around his body and head. And that was it. This experience will help Harry feel more comfortable the next time I see him. Good job, baby!

Bennie’s got moves! He’s been with me since he was really young so he knows where to be and when in the shop. Fly, floofer, fly!

Met this sweet old beauty yesterday, at 13.5 years young, everybody meet Tundra! She held onto A LOT of coat in anticipation of meeting me. And I’m not lying when I say she didn’t say a single word through her groom - she’s a unicorn husky! So here I present the artist, and the art 😂 Yes, I neatened up her pawsies after this and brushed for at least another 9 hours or so lol 😋

I can’t get enough of these squishable lil cheekies! Theo has been coming to see me since he was a little baby puppy - these days he falls asleep on the table. I think he’s comfortable with me. Or maybe I’m boring lol 😆🤔

Grooming isn’t always an easy process, especially for young puppies. Marley here is 6 months old and this was our first time meeting each other. She was understandably worried about the loud dryer so I was sure to allow her some enrichment breaks and practice time instead of pushing her to navigate everything all at once. Breaks give pup the opportunity to relax and refocus before moving on to the next part of the job and helps me build a bond with them as well. Such a silly and smart floofer!

Just a quick clip to show what my main goal is for your pups while they are navigating the grooming process with me. This is Chester. We’ve been doing this together for a number of years now and he has become very comfortable with me because we have this routine every 8 weeks. The loop is only there to ensure he doesn’t wag too close to the edge of the table. His attention stays with me and all he wants to do is what is asked of him in exchange for praise and play. Good boy, Chester!

Welcome and thank you for choosing Sheena's Pet Services!

Owner/Manager Sheena Slobodian is a professional force-free, fear-free dog groomer, certified in Sporting and Hand Stripped breeds, a newbie competitive groomer, and a lifetime member of the Intellectual Groomers Association with whom she is actively working toward achieving her Master Groomer certification. With a decade of experience working as a full-time dog groomer, Sheena is strong, caring and knowledgeable in animal health, care, nutrition and behaviour. She will happily provide you with helpful tricks and tips to strengthen your relationship with your furry family member, and strives to always give your pet an enjoyable, comfortable, positive grooming experience. Sheena runs a clean and bright dog grooming salon without breed discrimination. The salon is open concept, with all procedures done in plain sight rather than behind closed doors. We are located on a busy street, do we installed a secure a high gate inside of our main entrance for the safety of your pets. Dogs are not free-roaming in the salon, but instead each is safely secured in a kennel where staff are able to keep a close eye on them at all times when they are not being groomed.

Sheena prides herself in providing professional quality - not quantity - grooming services with each animal groomed to high standards. Appointments are scheduled with each of our caring grooming team to maximise one-on-one time with each dog in our care to enhance the grooming experience and to give us the time necessary to build a trusting bond with your furry family members. Dogs are NOT kept for the entire day in our salon, only for the duration of their appointment (typically 1.5-4 hours depending on the size and coat condition of the dog).

Full dog grooming services are available, including bathing, de-shedding, nail trimming, pooch pedicures, kennel cuts, teddy bear and breed standard clips, face/sanitary tidying and gland expressions. We also pride ourselves in teaching puppies and inexperienced dogs to have a voice in the grooming experience, a very important step in every dogs life. We use a broad selection of quality natural and professional products in our salon, each of which is packed with vitamins and nutrients meant to give pups skin and coat a healthful boost, and to decrease maintenance between grooms with daily home care. We also offer a selection of hypoallergenic and scent-free products for owners/dogs with sensitivities. We carefully select the appropriate products for each dogs individual needs. We also offer Nature’s Specialties Medi-Boost to soothe skin and muscle aches in older dogs, as well as the Nagayu Micro-Bubble System for dogs with more challenging dermal needs.
