*** Important Canada to US Pet Travel Update***๐จ๐ฆ๐บ๐ธ
Nothing has been simple about this process but it appears that the US CDC has finally decided on the process for pet dogs travelling into the US from Canada. This will take effect AUGUST 1st so please plan accordingly to avoid being turned away at the US border:
โ ๏ธThe dog owner (or whoever is accompanying the dog) must complete the new online CDC Dog Import Form https://cdc-786687.workflowcloud.com/.../090dc543-7b2f... for each dog. The form no longer requires a photo for such a dog, and is valid for up to 6 months, as long as the dog does not visit any high-risk countries. There is no fee or waiting period associated with completing this form (free). A separate form must be completed for each dog.
โ ๏ธThe dog must appear healthy upon arrival.
โ ๏ธThe dog must be at least 6 months old at time of entry to the US. This means dogs under this age will not be allowed to enter the US (new puppy owners take note!)
โ ๏ธThe dog must have a microchip that can be detected with a universal scanner to identify them.
There is no need to prove rabies vaccine status when crossing into the US, HOWEVER, your pet must be vaccinated for rabies to re-enter Canada therefore a valid rabies certificate from your veterinarian will be needed.
โก๏ธ microchips are available at our hospital that are accepted at the US border. You do not need to book an appointment with a doctor to get one. Set up an RVT appointment by calling or booking online
โก๏ธyou can quickly check your pet's rabies vaccine status on our Pet Page app or contact our office (search Pet Page in the App store and enter your e-mail registered with our practice)
โก๏ธalthough not mandatory to travel into the US, we highly recommend that your pet take parasite-preventative medication, particularly for ticks (Lyme disease), heartworm disease and fleas
