One of our favorite microgreens to grow are Arugula.
They're dainty, flavorful, and a powerhouse of nutritional benefits. Of all the microgreens we grow these have been a struggle due to they're delicate nature but the rewards pay, big time!
Just like the mature variety they have that peppery flavor but what sets them apart is just how fresh they are.
Ours are cut FRESH just mere hours before delivery, ensuring that you get to enjoy the fullness of what they have to offer.
A good description would be an intense but subtly sweet, tangy, peppery flavor with a nutty nuance.
A great source of vitamin K and calcium which is good for bone health and vitamin C to strengthen the immune system.
And potassium to help balance fluid levels within the body and folate to generate genetic material.
Due to they're delicate nature it's best to add them to your favorite savory meal just before being served.
They also pair well with other greens and salads and a great topping on pizzas.
The possibilities are endless.

If you're a new subscriber to our page, WELCOME!!!

Our focus here is help inform people of a different alternative to conventional healthy foods, namely microgreens, and how you can access them. If you're unsure of exactly what microgreens are then hopefully this short description will help in understanding what they are and how they call help you.

Microgreens are the beginning stages of the mature vegetable, herb, and plant. Some may refer to them as sprouts but that's not technically correct. Microgreens are past the stage of being a sprout but are just entering the stage of forming the mature plant. Microgreens are usually harvested within 10-14 days after the germination process or just when or before the cotyledon leaves start to form. The cotyledon leaves are known as the 'true leaf' of the plant. It's at this stage that microgreens are harvested because their nutrient density is at it's highest peak; when the cotyledon leaves start to emerge the plant begin to loose their robust flavor and for some plants a bitter taste starts to set in. Studies have shown that microgreens at this stage will have up to 4-40x their nutrient density, which makes them a powerful super-food.

Many studies have been performed on the benefits of microgreens since their explosion of use in restaurants and at home, concluding that microgreens perform just as well or better than their mature counterpart of providing the nutrition the body needs to function and help with fighting illness, including cancer, heart disease, alzheimer's, and kidney function... plus a whole plethora of other benefits.

We hope this gives some sort of understanding of just how wonderful and important these little wonders are and if you haven't tried microgreens yet we suggest to give them a try. They're delicious, robust in flavor, and unlike the mature plant they're easy on the stomach to digest.

Our regularly scheduled deliveries are a-go this week!!! Woo-hoo!

We had a nice unscheduled two week break, albeit the first we've had since we started back in spring of 2020, but we're refreshed and ready to get back at 'er again.
We've had some lessons learned with the biggest one being prepared for the unexpected, so needless to say we are well prepared for the next few months, or at least until spring.
And like you guys we missed having access to fresh greens. Sometimes when things are so easily accessible ya sometimes take it for granted. Even when it's the simplest things as microgreens.

No Deliveries for Saturday, October 05.
We've been having issues trying to get the soil that we've been using for 4 years from our regular supplier for a while now with no luck, so we tried a different brand and it's not producing nearly the yield that we are used to producing. We're a little bummed but that's all we can do.
Luckily, we have found the same brand of soil that we're used to using in central NL and for good measure we picked up a little extra.
We apologize for the inconvenience, we know you guys miss having FRESH greens with your favorite meal, we miss it too!!!

With fingers crossed, knocking on wood, salt over the shoulder, and with Gods help we'll back to our normal delivery schedule next Saturday, October 12.

Recently came across an an article describing categories of foods that are sold in grocery stores within Canada and the U.S. and was surprised just how much of our foods are processed and ultra-processed vs. unprocessed or minimally processed foods.
The article references big stores such as Walmart, Target, and Wholefoods and analyzed over 50,000 foods. It turns out 73% of the foods sold in these stores are categorized as being ultra-processed, which means just 27% of the other foods that are sold are either processed, minimally processed, and unprocessed.
Could this be the reason people are over weight and have chronic diseases??? 🤔
Ultra-processed foods are foods that go through multiple processes (extrusion, molding, milling, etc.), contain many added ingredients and are highly manipulated. Examples are soft drinks, chips, chocolate, candy, ice-cream, sweetened breakfast cereals, packaged soups, chicken nuggets, hotdogs, fries and more.
So the next time you're in the grocery store be sure to have a look at the ingredient label and count the ingredients on that tin of soup or cereal, I bet you'd be surprised.
The food that we grow, our delicious microgreens, are grown in a controlled environment without the use of pesticides or any sort of chemicals just plain ol' water and soil and non gmo seeds. 100% natural just as Mother Nature intended.

Some people are unfamiliar or probably never heard of what microgreens are, let alone what they taste like and are there any real benefit to them?!?!

Well... they're the miniature version of the adult variety with the main difference of instead of waiting several weeks or months to enjoy the full grown vegetable, microgreens are harvested just within 14 days or less of germination and the best part is they still have that same great flavorful taste, albeit a little more potent, and equal or greater the amount of nutritional value.
