Microchipping Saves Lives! 🐾

Today, I’m sharing the heartwarming story of Frank — a sweet kitty who was lost but found their way back home, all thanks to a microchip!

Last week, Frank was found and brought to St. Lawrence. Because he was microchipped, we were able to find his owners information and called to inform them he was found. He was missing for quite a few months and they had lost hope of finding him again. This little device made all the difference in reuniting their family.

Microchipping is quick, affordable, and can truly be a lifesaver. If you haven’t microchipped your pets yet, please consider it. It could be the one thing that brings them back to you if they ever get lost.

Let’s keep our furry friends safe and ensure they always find their way home. ❤️

🚨 Attention Dog Owners! New CDC Travel Rules Starting August 1st 🚨

Starting August 1st, the CDC is implementing new regulations for bringing dogs into the USA.

Here's what you need to know:

💉Health Certificates: Dogs must have a valid Rabies Vaccination Certificate.
⏰ Vaccination Timing: The rabies vaccine must be administered at least 30 days before arrival.

🐶 Puppies younger than 6 months are not eligible for entry.
📟 Microchipping: Dogs must be microchipped before arrival. Ensure your dog's microchip details are updated and match the vaccination records. This MUST be done prior to rabies vaccine and be on all paperwork.
📃 Import Permits: A CDC import permit is required.
👩‍⚕️ Health Check: A veterinarian must examine the dog within 30 days of travel to certify they are healthy and fit for travel.

These measures aim to protect public health and ensure the safety of all pets entering the USA. For detailed information, visit the CDC website.

Reminder to get your dog in for a 4DX test 🐶

The 4DX test is a specific type of snap test designed to diagnose vector-borne diseases in dogs. The 4DX test is used to detect heartworm disease and tick-borne diseases, such as Lyme disease, Ehrlichiosis, and Anaplasmosis. This test is essential for identifying these diseases early to ensure timely treatment and management.

A small amount of blood is required for the test. The veterinarian or technician will collect a blood sample from the dog, typically by drawing blood from a vein in the dog’s leg or neck. After the waiting period, the test cartridge displays results. If the antigens or antibodies associated with any of the tested diseases are detected in the blood sample, specific lines or markers on the test cartridge will appear, indicating a positive result.

As you can see below we had 3 dogs test positive today alone! One was positive for heartworm, one was positive for heartworm and lyme & the final was positive for heartworm, lyme AND anaplasmosis. When you look under the microscope you can see the microfilaria (heartworm) and look in the comments for a video of them moving!

Did you know we offer pre-anesthetic screening, pain medication, anti-emetics and sedatives for patients prior to elective surgeries?

The importance of pre-anesthetic bloodwork is to make sure there is no underlying disease, or organ disfunction. Pain medications, sedatives and anti-emetics (anti nausea/vomiting) help reduce your pets stress, pain, make anesthetic go more smoothly and actually make it safer.
