A Heartwarming Rescue: Johnny Doe’s Journey to a New Life

This is the story of Johnny Doe, a sweet dog who was found in dire need of help but never lost his joyful spirit. While on duty, out of town firefighter Kyle discovered Johnny with a severely swollen, broken, and infected leg. Despite the obvious pain, Johnny greeted him with a wagging tail and unwavering joy. Kyle couldn’t walk away—Johnny needed immediate care, not just for his injured leg but also for fleas and intestinal parasites that had taken a toll on him.

Kyle brought Johnny to St. Claire Animal Hospital, where our team jumped into action. Dr. Mall performed a thorough assessment and confirmed that Johnny had multiple fractures in his right hind limb, along with a serious infection in the wounded area. Pain medications, antibiotics, and other treatments were administered to stabilize Johnny, preparing him for the surgery he desperately needed.

Since Kyle was from out of town and unable to provide temporary care for Johnny, our amazing veterinary technician, Erin, stepped in. Erin brought Johnny home with her to monitor him overnight, ensuring he stayed stable and comfortable until surgery. Thanks to her compassion and attentive care, Johnny was in excellent condition for the next step in his recovery.

The following day, Dr. Melanie performed surgery, which involved amputating Johnny’s severely damaged leg. Throughout the procedure, Johnny remained strong and stable. His resilience was remarkable, and even in the early stages of recovery, he kept his joyful spirit. It was clear Johnny wasn’t going to let anything hold him back.

Yesterday, Johnny’s story came full circle—he was reunited with Kyle, who decided to give Johnny a forever home. This inspiring dog, who endured so much, now has a second chance at a happy life.

Stories like Johnny’s remind us why we do what we do. Veterinary medicine can be challenging, but moments like these make it all worthwhile. We wish Johnny and Kyle all the best in this new chapter together!

Good morning everyone. Information for our clients about solar eclipse.

Hello friends!

The total solar eclipse is just around the corner, and just about everyone is ready to see the once in a lifetime event. We are seeing some mixed information about pet/wildlife safety.

Contrary to what some may read, the sun itself is not any more dangerous during the eclipse. The reason protective eye wear is recommended for humans (who wish to observe the eclipse) is because many of us will be staring directly at the sun that day, which is something we typically avoid.

For our pets, and outdoor wildlife, that day will be similar to any other day. Our pets don’t stare at the sun, so there is no need to keep them indoors on April 08 for any extended period of time. They may notice the change in temperature, but it is unlikely they will exhibit any unusual behaviour.

The eclipse can be more unsettling for birds. The dimming of the sky can mimic behaviour at dusk and during early storm formation, so some birds may demonstrate a wind-down behaviour and there may be less activity in the sky during the peak eclipse. Once the sky returns to normal, so does their behaviour.

If you are purchasing eclipse glasses, please make sure they meet these criteria. For additional information about the eclipse please see:
https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/safety/

For a list of approved solar-viewing goggles please see:

https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/viewers-filters

It is not safe to watch the eclipse through the lens of your smartphone - it can damage both your phone camera and your eyes. Try this instead:

Safe watching our friends!
