Meet Rheo! 🐾Rheo had her 304 (lower left canine) & 104 (upper right canine) extracted because they were fractured. This can happen for a number of reasons. When a tooth is fractured, it can be very painful. The pain is generally due to root exposure. It is important to have your pet seen by a veterinarian right away to determine next steps and if extraction is recommended. If a tooth with root exposure is not removed, a tooth root abscess can occur which can lead to further discomfort and systemic infection. Meet Boots! 🤍Boots was playing in a field when a stick became lodged between her toes. Her owners rushed her down to the clinic so we could sedated and x-ray her foot. X-rays helped us determine how deep the stick was lodged. Dr. Cannon examined her further and flushed the puncture site with sterile saline. Once the wound was flushed and lubrication was instilled, the stick was gently removed. 🌲 To ensure there were no stick fragments left behind, Boots was put under a brief anesthetic to open the area and flush it further. Sutures were used to close the skin and a bandage was placed.❤️‍🩹 Boots recovered well and was sent home with oral medications for pain, inflammation, and infection. 🩺 She had bandage changes for one week and after two weeks her wounds were closed. ⚠️Trigger warning: graphic content! Here is a video of us lancing an abcess on a feline patient. What you see draining is called purulent fluid, also known as pus. After we drained the abcess, we cleaned the wound thoroughly. Once cleaned we sutured and attached a drain. The drain will allow the rest of the purulent fluid to exit. After 3-5 days we will remove the drain and then 12-14 days later we can remove the sutures. The patient will be sent home with oral medications and the owner will have to follow strict after care instructions. Rosie was admitted to the hospital for examination of her swollen and painful toe. ❤️‍🩹 After giving Rosie some sedation, we were able to see that her nail had become embedded into the adjacent toe. We decided to take an x-ray and discovered that she had also broken a toe! We cleaned the puncture wound that was caused by the embedded nail & then bandaged it to stabilize and keep the injury clean.
