The Cranbrook & District Kennel Club was established by a dedicated group of enthusiasts in 1973. It has been in continual operation since then, offering annual all breed conformation shows and for most years, obedience and recently, rally obedience. We have long been recognized as a 'go to' destination for a well run, friendly and fun place to showcase your dogs in conformation shows, trial your
dogs in the obedience , rally and agility arenas. We often offer classes and education to members and to new people interested in starting to training their dogs in these venues.
LAST CALL FOR ENTRIES! Early Bird Rally/Obedience Trials September 28/29, 2024 close August 31st and regular closes September 6!!! Don't be disappointed...get your entries in!! Lovely indoor venue set in a beautiful area between Kimberley and Cranbrook BC. Plenty of benching and warmup area, coffee and sweets available for exhibitors and a very good possibility we will be offering lunch on both days.
Our 2024 shows are now behind us! The people (Club Members and Exhibitors) not only exhibited dogs, but demonstrated what dog shows and dog people are all about...camaraderie, respect, and making the most of a bad situation! Our beautiful grounds were all but flattened by a sudden rain/wind storm early Friday evening! Club tents and popups as well as exhibitor setups were destroyed, and portions of the rings dismantled. Club members and exhibitors joined forces to save what they could and keep each other safe. BUT!... Saturday morning, the show went on, on time, and with many smiles, great attitudes and even a sense of humour! The rain took care of the pesky wasps, we had less to take down at the close of the shows...haha...and we continued to do what we love! On Saturday Members, Judges and Exhibitors enjoyed a lovely potluck provided by the Club, despite the cooler temperatures, and we ended the shows on Sunday with a beautiful sunny day...there was already conversation about plans for next year!

It is a bad year for wasps so we ask for your cooperation in minimizing the use/storage of meat for bait and please keep food and drink well away from the ring area. Much appreciated!!

Congratulations to Lee Kozicki & Spike for winning all four High In Trial awards at our Obedience & Rally Trials this weekend! Also, a huge thank you for all the exhibitors who entered and competed. Congratulations to all of you on your successes! What a great weekend it was despite some rain and cool temperatures. And of course today the weather warmed up. Shout out to all the members who made this happen and worked so hard all weekend. As well, thank you to the exhibibitors who also helped with the set up, the take down and all the other things that made for a great weekend. Lastly, thank you to our judges Norma Schaffer and Lisbeth Booth for being so pleasant and helpful especially to several exhibitors who were in the ring competing for their first time. It takes a village!
Don't forget that Early Bird Close is this coming Tuesday Sept 5 for trials in Cranbrook and regular close is Tuesday Sept 12th. Plan a trip to the beautiful East Kootenay. Indoor venue with fully matted obedience ring.

The 50th Anniversary Show for the Cranbrook & District Kennel Club was held this past weekend with an entry of very beautiful dogs. Saturday, we celebrated by having a special “Gold & Glitter Day” and many exhibitors had their gold outfits on. Before Best in Show, there was an introductory presentation of the alumni from the first dog shows held in 1973. Four of our judging panel, who exhibited dogs at the first shows were introduced (but really didn’t need any introduction). Virginia Lyne, our BIS judge, who exhibited several English Cocker Spaniels, Terry Carter, who exhibited four Old English Sheep Dogs, Wayne Thompson, who exhibited an Irish Setter and Margaret Jones who also exhibited an Irish Setter. Nancy and Richard Lopaschuk, present members of the club, exhibited a German Shepherd Dog and a Miniature Schnauzer. Richard also exhibited an Irish Wolf Hound. Judy Snowdon exhibited a St Bernard at the first shows and was exhibiting a German Shepherd Puppy at this 50th Anniversary shows (that is pure dedication to the sport). We also had two Honorary Club members attend the shows, Anna-Mae Gartside who exhibited a Whippet at the first shows and Anne Clemons. There were over 450 years of dog related experience introduced before BIS. The Mayor of the City of Cranbrook, Wayne Price, presented the BIS award on Saturday. Also in attendance was the CKC Zone 12 Director for the Interior of BC & Yukon, Tammy Luethje.
Friday evening, after BIS, a celebratory Wine & Cheese gathering was held on the grounds. Everyone gathered for the fun and excitement of having the 50/50 chicken poo lottery. If you don’t know what this was, then you will have to attend next year’s events to find out! You pay to watch a chicken poo on a board? It is fun and you can win your money back and more.
The Club held their traditional BBQ, Saturday evening, with about 70 exhibitors and guests attending and enjoying the comradery and helping the club celebrate their anniversary. It was also Ginny Lyne’s Birthday and after dinner cakes were brought out for Ginny’s birthday and the club’s 50th anniversary. Everyone sang happy birthday to Ginny and toasted the club for having held shows for 50 years. Everyone went back to their RV’s happy and fed-up after watching the sunset on a wonderful hot day in the Beautiful East Kootenay of BC.

Please mark your calendars and hope to see you August 26th, 2023, in Cranbrook BC. Come and help Cranbrook & District Kennel Club celebrate their 50th Anniversary shows. There are five (5) sets of points available for Papillons and some amazing prizes being offered for the Specialty.
At the all-breed show on Saturday, the prize for Best In Show is $500.00, Reserve Best In Show is $250.00 and $100.00 for Best Puppy In Show. Friday, CDKC is having a Complimentary Wine & Cheese and on Saturday, the traditional BBQ Dinner with Saturday being “GOLD & GLITTER DAY” – Everything gold goes! …clothes, hats, leashes….whatever you have.

Now that CKC (at the last Board Mtg) voted to allow Clubs to post judges names as “Pending CKC Approval” as long as the events are officially approved, check out the new flyer. We are currently waiting for approval on our Limited Breed Shows and some Specialities…so watch for further updates. The 50th Anniversary shows are Aug 25 - 27/2023. Four of our judges on the panel exhibited at the first shows in 1973 including ourselves showing Minature Schnauzers and German Shepherd Dogs!
Save the date! We are celebrating our 50th Anniversary All Breed Dog Shows next August. The 50th Anniversary Committee has many ideas for the weekend. The dates are back to our tradtional Friday, Saturday, Sunday shows.
Photo albums and memorabilia from over the years will be on display along with many fun activities planned. Remember our “Chicken Sh*t” or sometimes it being the “Pigeon Poop” contest..so much fun. Watch for updates!
