Wasp Traps Coming.........

We had people from Grand Forks yesterday who found none around their home. We also had a couple from Kimberly who could not find any there or in Cranbrook.

We secured 60 of the ones pictured along with 64 Refill Attractants all at a BETTER PRICE than the Amazon Price! We also have 11 of another type coming along with another 30 units of a different Attractant.

I really did not want to bring in traps we had to sell for $30'ish, but after seeing the prices on Amazon I figured we better bring some in for our customers

We had to reach to far away place that is not having the WASP Issue we are having in our valley in order to secure these.

They are leaving their current home tomorrow and should hopefully arrive at the Store by Wednesday!

Long Winded Chicken Feed Post

After lots of feedback over the last 3-4 month's from a lot of our customers and our own personal experience I am very confident in posting all of this.

LAYER SHORT PELLETS
1. The main thing we are hearing from customers is that the feed consumption for many has gone down condiderably, many have said as much as half with a couple saying they believe they are using 1/3 as much feed as previously used.

The short Pellet 16% & 18% bags (as well as all other feeds in this line) are clean with very little powder or fines left over in the bag which equates to very little waste.

The main problem with the ground feed was that if you have free choice feeding for your flock, some chickens would pick only the cracked wheat and some would focus on only the mineral. Neither of these scenarios were good because it meant that the birds were not getting a balanced diet with everything they needed.

If using cracked grain feeds we suggest feeding only what the Chickens will eat in 20 minutes in order to train them to clean their plates and not scatter their food everywhere. This also means you should feed them 2-4 times per day.

The short Pellet bonuses are that it's very easy for those small Pellets to break down and be processed by the chickens. Secondly, every single bite has a balance of every single thing the Chickens require for Nutrients.

If Pellets hit the ground they can be picked up and consumed by the chickens instead of being lost into the ground and becoming a dusty grain smelling rodent attractant.

2. Production has been stable and consistent with most of our long time customers and some of our new customers have said they are getting increases especially over the "yellow/white" bags they have been buying elsewhere. Some of those "yellow/white" bag customers are pleased that this layer feed smells like real food instead of something strange and unappealing.

STARTER
Opening every new bag of Starter B delivers me a hint of Blueberry Odor. The Medicated Starter B does not have this smell but it is still not like some of the other strange smells that some feeds have. Trust me when I say it does not taste like it smells, a few of us have tested this out to see. 😉

GROWER
We have a bunch of teenagers (10-11 weeks) here in their own coop/run and feeder filling time is kinda funny. Even with some feed being left over in their feeder, they go into a bit of a frenzy as soon as I start filling the feeder every 2nd or 3rd day. It's not because they are hungry, they just get ecstatic when I start dumping new feed into the top of the feeder even if its already half full.

FINISHER
The biggest bonus with the finisher is that it is a balanced diet for mixed flocks of Chickens, Ducks, Geese or Turkeys. Niacin levels are balanced to be proper for all of the above listed birds. Just be sure to have Grit and/or Oyster Shell available.

Ducks generally require less Protien and more Niacin than normal Layer Feed will provide. This is especially important if your ducks cannot free range to balance their required nutrient intake on their own.

Free Ranging is good for all of your birds because they have the option to balance their food intake based on individual needs.

If you do not or cannot free range your flock and they are locked into a run it's easy to get the chickens a bit more protein by utilizing Grubs or Grub Mixes and tossing the chickens some as a treat when the ducks are maybe otherwise occupied.

I know we have one customer who gives the Chickens their Grubs inside the coop while the ducks are out in their own house. She feels that giving this protien inside the coop is aiding in training her Chickens to keep their house bug free.

SCRATCH
Scratch is not a rounded diet, it is a treat which gets tossed out in the run to encourage foraging and giving the birds a yummy distraction.

The Ritchie Smith Scratch is unlike some other scratch mixes which are simply the fines and crap that should be recycled back into the Pellet mill.

Ritchie Smith Scratch is, once again a beautiful grain product that is not just a bunch of what would otherwise simply be waste.

Tis the Season for many plants to start their flowering and putting on weight.

Easy Grow Powders
Easy Bloom Powders

Bud Start (week 2-3 budding + Easy Bloom)
Ton O Bud (week 4-5 budding + Easy Bloom)
Bud Boom (week 6-8 budding + Easy Bloom)

Plants will finish with just Easy Bloom but adding in the boosters will pack on size and density to the finished product.

Setting up your trellis or cages are important for big plants right now as a rain or windstorm can break branches very easily.

Trellises will help to support the massive growth that can come this time of year.

The 16' garden panels make incredible cages that will be 4 foot tall and 6 foot in diameter for plants 6-7 foot tall. They fasten well on 2 T-Posts with our fencing clips. Taller plants can use 5-6 foot fencing to accomplish the same task. This type cage can start a couple feet off the gtound.

Spreading out branches to allow proper air flow means that
- good bugs can get in to eat the bad bugs
- moisture can dissipate reducing rot & mildew
- sunlight can easily access flowering buds
- easier pruning makes harvest much simpler.

The new included pumps can alllow for processing of 20 batches before requiring maintenance of the pump oil. Oilless Pumps can remove that maintenance all together.

Chopped & Highly Compressed Mini Straw Bales just under 28 Lbs.

Chopped Straw actually will absorb a bit of moisture compared to regular straw.

The photo in the tote is only 1/2 of one mini compressed bale.

Our pallets come wrapped and sealed to ensure no contamination took place between the original packaging location and us.

The one I opened appears to be clear of seeds and unwanted garbage, these are very manageable and take very little storage space compared to a normal sized bale. The big complaint with straw for the garden is that often there is dirt, roots and seeds hiding in the bales that sprout in the garden afterwards.

Small enough bales to store where Mice & Rats will not drag it all over the place and contaminate the product on you.

We also have the plastic wrapped Bales of Finley Chopped Straw which people have told us is very sterile and clean. One of our customers used hydrogen peroxide to sterilize the straw before use and said there was no reaction that took place after dousing it in high concentration peroxide.

If you want to look at it, the tote is sitting here at the store so you can see it and feel the softness of it.

We only use Chopped Straw in nesting boxes for chickens and never use it as a litter material because it does not absorb well and can create a home for mites and lice.

We don't really allow Sadie on the couch but the house was cool this morning and it was a good time for a Snuggle.

As far as our older Cat goes, (Missy or Kitty Kitty) she has lived on this mountain longer than we have. I guess the bathroom sink was cooler than the washing machine or her normal outdoor hangouts?

This young bear has been no real trouble at all this year, only one small mess from something I left out that should not have been left outside. We are not chasing him away because he obviously needs a safe space to learn how to eat and survive. He rarely even comes into the yard anymore and mostly stays up in the forested area.

Solar Fan which automatically comes on with sunshine, these are brushless units which work at various RPM's depending on the sunlight the panel gets. Doghouse, Greenhouse, Chicken Coop, Shed, Outhouse ......... We are using 2 of these in our Barn on a 12 volt battery at the store to keep it cool in the heat and they work unbelievably well. One pushes in and one pushes out! At home we have them hooked up through a relay and a Thermostat to only run when the coop is at a predetermined temperature. The frame rate on the video does not really show how fast the fan is spinning. We have a few of these left in stock for $70.

Great Rooftop Fire Sprinklers Hopefully we do not see embers falling from the sky this year but it's a possible reality every year. When all your neighbors turn the water on at the same time and pressure drops drastically, their sprinkers will be vibrating on the gutters and yours will be protecting your property. This was actually closer to a 25'ish foot radius at horribly low pressure. These Sprinklers cover 1500 Sq Ft at only 35 psi. No plastic to rot in the sunshine, should be fine to be up and ready all Sumner. Photos in comments

Observing a chicken's bedtime routine can be an entertaining experience, as it involves a mix of methodical actions and what appears to be a natural instinct to check for predators before settling down for the night. This is a new coop for these 2 and they have finally settled into a normal routine. It took a bit of Chicken Psychology to get them used to the new home but the work has paid off with one exception. She needs to figure out the new nesting box which is far better than the last one which She used quite faithfully.
