Madison’s last day was this week ❤️ and we are already missing her. She placed a roll as Leanne’s bather/blow drier, receptionist, cleaner, emotional support being, doggy cuddler/snuggler, kitty restrainer/dodger/smoosher, small animal lover, a shoulder to cry on and many, many more hats. ✨
We wish her well in her endeavours and hope she makes it back to the island in the (near) future with her girl Ember. You know where to find us 🫶 and thank you for being you and loving all of the fur babies that made their way into the salon over the past 10 months.

We were one of the sponsors for this year’s Pony Club in Courtenay. We donated some DCG embroidered saddle pads for the winners (congrats to the winners and everyone who participated ✨) a HUGE shout out to Hitech screen printing in Courtenay for pushing our prizes through when we got ourselves into a bit of a pickle.
Pony club is very special to our family as Leanne’s nieces/Jodie’s daughter competes in our horsey community. Where there are horses, there are always dogs and cats! This community is just so amazing… not to mention so many animals lovers! Our hearts are full! ❤️

Prize time! ✨ we are sponsoring the grand prize of the doggy fashion show again in Cumberland this Sunday (May 18th) all proceeds to the event raised will be donated to our local CV 4-H team. The show starts at 3 pm, categories are Disney movies, Superheroes, Throwback to the 80’s, Human jobs, Fantasy and Day at the beach. Each entry is $5.00 and yes you can enter in more than one category.

Meet Mini 🌼 she was in for her first haircut today with Leanne and as you can see we can still keep her looking puppy-like with her new doo! ✂️
All puppies should be started under a groomer of your choice at the age of 12 weeks old (after their 2nd DAP vaccine) When started at this age your pup is more likely to have a proper understanding of the concept of grooming, positive and safe exposure as well as snuggles, treats and maybe just a couple kisses along the way. 🍪 💋
Pups who started later in life are more likely to get matted, uncomfortable on a table, may think the brush/grooming tools are toys and overall the experience can be a little scary as they haven’t been exposed to the salon and its settings.
Do your pup a solid and book him/her in sooner than later even if it’s a breed that doesn’t often NEED to be groomed often. You’ll thank us later as you’ll be setting him/her up for a lifetime of success. ❤️

✨Let’s talk rescues!✨ This little guy was found in Cumberland. He’s a purebred English Angora rabbit (approx 2-3 years old) who was released/abandoned in our area. The poor guy would not have survived long as his coat absorbs moisture, matts and excessively grows. We’ve been hoping it was the case of him escaping from his enclosure but since no one has come forward we are considering it a “dumping” which is incredibly sad and disheartening. With this being said we wanted to take a spin on this experience and educate the public that “releasing” animals into our climate, especially breeds that would not thrive is truly not ideal/cruel. Please always try to reach out to rescues, clubs and the community for some help and guidance. 🐰

We LOVE rescues as we can give them a second chance. As you can see this guy came in extremely matted, urine-scalding and incredibly underweight. Jen stayed after her shift to help Leanne give him a complimentary “restart” haircut. (Thank you, Jen) she’s a huge bunny lover and it shows ❤️
Thank you to our community who brought this guy's concerns noticed and for quickly adopting him and giving him an amazing second chance to live and thrive. This breed requires a lot of knowledge when it comes to upkeep, line grooming and maintenance almost on the daily and this family has this knowledge!
We are all so grateful to call this village/valley our home and are incredibly proud of the caring people in it. Thank you all so much. If you know of a rescue pet that requires a little extra love please reach out. We have many years of knowledge when it comes to the coat and nails of that animal. 🫶

Let’s talk nails 💅 (our model today is Bute, our staff mascot/shop pup who gets his monthly nail dremel🐾 here’s a little before and after.)

•Canine/feline nails need to be trimmed every 4-6 weeks (for regular maintenance)
•Pets that aren’t super mobile/athletic need to come in more frequently.
•Pets that have medical and/or after surgery sometimes suffer with a different gate which will sometimes make nails grow fast/it’s more difficult for them to grind them down on their own.
•Did you know in the summer months, nails AND coats will grow significantly faster due to vitamin D from the sun.
•ALL of our bath & dry, bath & tidy and full groom services ALWAYS come with a complimentary nail trim. (upgrade to a dremel for an additional $5.00)
•A nail trim is where your groomer cuts the nail. This is a quick service and great for animals that suffer from anxiety when handling feet.
•Nail dremelling is a great service for when we are trying to recede the quick on your dog's nails. Dremelling also is great for keeping the nails short, beveled upwards and excellent for elderly clients who suffer with thin/sensitive skin. This service takes time for your pet to trust the process as the vibration feels a little odd.
•Dremelling is a less likely option to quicking your pup’s nails.
•When we are trying to get the quick back we recommend not to run or walk your pup on concrete for 12 hours.
•We are open Monday-Friday with the occasional Saturday. Most of the time we can accommodate walk-in nail trims during the week but to avoid disappointment please call or text ahead of time. If we can squeeze you in, we absolutely will!
•Frequent maintenance on your pet’s nails will help with pain from arthritis, proper weight bearing/movement, less likely to rip/tear nails which leads to unnecessary vet bills and overall a more comfortable/quality of life.

Did you know we carry biothane collars? 🌈 They are handmade in the USA with high-quality materials. 🇺🇸 Our doggy models are: Remi, Bella & Noodle 🐾
⭐️ ⭐️
•Biothane (vegan leather) collars do not absorb smells and moister like cloth collars. 🦨 this helps prevent the stinky dog smell and potential hot spots which are caused by moister.
•We carry bright collars to help show through your active dog's coat. Whether it be ripping around on the beach or sending it through the Cumberland forest. We have you covered. 🌈
•Biothane doesn’t create static electricity which helps prevent against matting. Especially with longer coated/puppy haircut type dogs.⚡️
•Best of all, they are super easy to clean. Add a little dish soap and hot water on a cloth and bam they wipe clean. 🧼
•We carry a leather hole punch in the salon so we can custom the perfect length for your pup before and after his/her haircut. 🔨
•These collars and leashes are super affordable and incredibly durable. All of our shop dogs wear them so that means they must be good 😜

We are here to start fresh and place your feline and canine on a proper maintenance schedule. We also have all the retail, commercial-grade tools to help maintain your pet’s coat from the comfort of your own home. ⭐️🪮
Ask your groomer or our receptionist; Jodie on what brushes and products would best suit your pet's coat.
Did you know… matting is preventable?! We are not here to shame but to educate. Consistent matting will cause discomfort, fearfulness and anticipation when arriving at your grooming salon. We want to help and prevent this from being your pet’s experience. 🫶

•matted coats can cause skin irritation, inflammation, and are the potential lead of sores & hotspots. ❤️‍🩹

•matting causes a damp and moist climate for skin issues to occur and worsen such as bacteria and yeast. This can cause potential skin infections. 🦠

• severe matting causes restricted movement in your pet's ability to do everyday life. (example: sight, mobility & comfort) 🩼

•matting can cause overheating. Severely matted or impacted coats prevent your dog from properly regulating his/her temperature throughout the seasons. 🥵

•Poor coat maintenance can prevent air from circulating to the skin which can lead to a higher risk of parasites such as fleas, ticks and lice. 🦟

Meet W***y! He’s an adorable golden doodle who does struggle with the grooming process. Over the past year, we’ve taken extra time, care and patience to get him where he is today.
W***y is unsure of the bath and strongly dislikes the blow drier near his legs and face. We’ve recognized this and adapted to his comfort throughout the grooming sessions. With some cotton balls in his ears, a happy hoodie (doggy ear protection) around his head and a sniff of pet CBD before his grooming appointment. This helps put his anxiety at ease. This also helps him develop trust with his groomer Leanne.
I’m proud of you W***y! He’s become such a rockstar 🤩 if you have questions on how to work through or prevent anxiety in your pet during grooming sessions please don’t hesitate to reach out. We want this experience to be a quality of life rather than “Oh gosh, we have to go to the groomers”.
Believe it or not, there is a ton of trust and prep you can do at home and during drop-off to prepare your pup and keep him/her confident throughout the whole process 🫶🐾

After a lifetime spent working with animals, and many months of training, apprenticeship, planning and renovations, this immaculate home-based grooming salon in Cumberland, BC, opened for business in November 2015.

Dodge City Grooming serves the City of Courtenay, Town of Comox, Village of Cumberland and surrounding communities. Leanne and her team are pleased to offer professional grooming services for dogs, cats and exotics.

We loves working with puppies, geriatric dogs and are one of few grooming salons in the Comox Valley who will groom cats.
