SUBJECT: “Heifer bulls and cow bulls”. Unpopular opinion…
These terms are man made problems and is an indicator of imbalance within a herd. It can be lumped into the same realm of too much or to little growth, too much or too little milk, too much or too little carcass-it’s all just marketing and a game of one-upping the next guy. The real issue is man’s fascination with extremes and the lack of understanding the dire importance of balance. When we rely heavily on external inputs and managment and start dictating and placing numerical values to such a complex matter such as environmental ability, balance begins to erode and problems start to surface.
So shouldn’t all cattle be “calving ease”? Why would we not always want calving ease?? In today’s world of ag production, it’s awfully tough to generate wealth spending our way to profit and disregarding the value of a live, healthy calf. So why do we proceed to disrupt balance? Does ego really pay the bills or does a live calf raised within the limits of our environment?

Exciting times here! The first lambs born in North America from the top performance Suffolk ram in the UK, Essie Suffolks Fitzroy!
They look great and still four more ewes to lamb any minute!!! 😀
