Rain, rain, go away. Excuse the videos, it is NOT one of my skills. Pups have been nagging to go out again since the two dry days they got out last week. I finally relented and took them out in our tiny backyard woodlot for 15 minutes. They cared less about the wet than I did. Had a ball playing with leaf litter. This is why we give away shepherd's whistles with every pup. Whistled to them for the first time. And took some videos. This is how an UNTRAINED Border Collies pup responds to hearing a shepherd's whistle for the first time!!!! :-)
Every litter loves the Dollar-store tunnel. Despite the fact that it definitely says 'for cats' on the box it came in. And oh yeah, we are not sure the puppies are using it right. But it sure is fun .... lol
And still more playing in the renovated pen! I love how these puppies enjoy new things and make every change into an adventure. We like to changed up living quarters, giving more space to play, as they get older. Papers moving to the far side of the pen also leaves them with more space to rough and tumble!
More puppies exploring in their new digs!
Big events! The kids are weaned today. And they moved into new digs. We have 2 crates made into beds. No tops just yet but soon we will have to put tops on so the the kids don't figure out how to climb. Love to see them explore: they think it is an adventure park!
Victor comes over for a pat.....
They are playing with each other so we introduce toys (so called "object play") For today, they seem to just mouth it like a baby chewing on a teething ring. They will soon begin to play with toys.
The kids are running around! Just playing about because I woke them up. I love this stage, they can run, but only if they remember to pay attention to their feet. Truly toddlers!
As soon as they wake up now, they toddle out to pee on the papers, then begin to play. I love the toddler stage: if they get distracted, they forget their feet and fall down. They are so!
The pups all playing in the new bed. They are doing very well at keeping their bed clean. Only a couple toddle to the far side to pee, most are just stepping out the door. But that will come. Working hard on both walking and playing just now!
On the weekend the pups moved out to the living room, with a playpen attached. By the end of the day they were all over exploring. Already trying very hard to pee outside the bed, with moderate success, and a lot of pee spots JUST outside the door, But I've seen several very long walks to the far side for a little wee, and back again! Better videos coming, :-)
Radar! This fantastic girl learned to fetch yesterday. Fetching videos today., You can see in the video how she tears after the ball, then she is thinking on the way back ....
"Now what is the best way to get her to throw it again? Is it OK that I have the ball instead of the grownups? The other dogs drop it at her feet, I should do that too.... "
The thought process in Border Collies always surprises me. Vesta has worked out a puzzle I thought would stump them for days. I put a few kibbles into a pop bottle, and then left the cap open. By pinching it in two directions, that makes it so they can't just tip the kibble out. Within about 15 minutes, Vesta was honing a technique. Not a perfect video (hard to catch it) but she rolls the bottle with her foot until the kibble moves to the top section, then she tips the mouth of the bottle to the floor to get a Kibble out. She got more systematic at this as I watched! ---PS the puppies are always trying to steal adult kibble from their parents. Either the Salmon based kibble is REALLY tasty, or it must be better because it is Mon & Dads. We use it as a nice healthy treat ....
