At first, we didn’t know what the outcome would be.
A 13 year old cat was found as a stray, and his body certainly showed for it. He was nothing but skin and bones, his movements were very slow, he had infections in both his ears and his teeth, but most concerning of all was the state of his eyes.
Clouded over and looking like they were beginning to fill with blood, we were almost certain that Ebony would have to undergo surgery to remove both his eyes, leaving him completely blind. An emergency trip to the vet, however, helped ease our worries as our veterinarian recommended a medical trial before opting for surgery.
Thankfully, the medication has helped significantly, and Ebony will be able to keep both his eyes. With this life-long requirement of medication and careful monitoring, we opted to place him into our Palliative Care Foster program and find him a permanent foster home who we could work with to continue to provide his medical care.
Through all of this, Ebony still remains one of the sweetest cats who have ever come through the shelter. His foster sent along an update to let us know just how well he’s doing in his home:
“Ebony is an amazing addition to our family - it feels like he has always been with us. Ebony (aka Angel Baby) lives for laps and snuggles! He will demand it and has not met a lap he doesn't like.
His favourite past time is to snuggle in the recliner with my Husband while getting belly rubs. He is a calm gentle boy with the occasional love nibble if you are not patting him enough.
We are so lucky to be providing his retirement home. He is so loved!”
Your support of our June 50/50 Raffle helped to provide the lifesaving care the Ebony needed and continues to help care for him and the 19 other animals currently in our Palliative Care Program. Now, you can help support more animals like Ebony by taking part in our New Year's Eve 50/50!
