Many of our followers have seen photos of Staff Dog, Aria the Papillon. Today she is being a great sport as a demo dog for an important message!
In this video, you can see Aria being brushed effortlessly with the slicker brush. It’s guiding through her hair with no issue - or is it…?
Many of our Doodles/Poodles/Shih Tzus/Yorkies etc who come to us for grooming are shocked when their pup ends up leaving the grooming salon shaved because “we brush her at home every day”!
This video is a beautiful example of when brushing every day isn’t actually making a difference. When we try to run a metal comb through Aria’s coat, you can see that it gets stuck. Aria spends a LOT of time swimming and rolling around in all sorts of gross things and her coat requires a lot of maintenance to keep it long and tangle free.
In Aria’s case, she is in for regular grooming, so the groomers are able to work through her coat without causing discomfort or pain.
When your pups are going 2-3+ months without grooming, our wonderful groomers can only work so much magic without causing pain and discomfort to your dog through dematting! When a dog is considerably matted, the most humane thing to do is to clip them down short to start again.
If you’re looking for some advice on the proper tools to use on your dog or perhaps the frequency of grooms that would be best suited for your individual dog, please chat with us!
Keep in mind that even dogs who don’t require hair cuts like a Doodle does can fall victim to poor grooming practices too!
This message has been brought to you by a tangle free little Papillon who was paid in treats for her help today 😉
Nothing like a summer nap🥺
We want to give a huge shout out to baby Delta for her incredible crate manners at lunch today. For a little baby, in a very exciting environment, we are so proud of the example that she is setting!
We are huge advocates for crate training dogs, because there will likely be times in their lives that they would need to be crated. Having a dog comfortable with their crate makes it easier for your dog, for you and for your providers!
Some examples of times your dog may need to be crated;
- for a meal at daycare
- at the vet
- for travel
- for boarding
- in an emergency
- at some groomers
- at a dog sporting event
You may not want to crate your dog forever, but teaching that skill and keeping it fresh in their mind can help your dog more than you may realize!
Three cheers for baby Delta!
