Carleton County Animal Shelter

Carleton County Animal Shelter Adopt * Sponsor * Volunteer * Donate * Educate The Carleton County Animal Shelter was founded in 1995. Currently CCAS has a capacity to house 52 cats and 6 dogs.
(58)

Since then we have housed and re-homed hundreds of dogs and cats from all over western New Brunswick. CCAS is a no-kill shelter, meaning that animals will not be euthanized simply because of lack of space. Euthinasia is reserved for a last resort and is performed only when our veterinary care providers deem it necessary to prevent suffering. The demand of the community far exceeds those numbers so

we have to focus on other methods of helping stray animals outside of the shelter as much as possible. By networking with other shelters in the province, suppling pet food where needed and assisting in spay and neuter expenses we are trying to give as many ownerless pets a chance at survival until a permanent home can be found for each and every one. Keeping the shelter open is no easy task. The expense alone is mind-boggling, at $100,000 each and every year. It takes a team of individuals who are willing to work with the animals , raise funds and help try to educate the public on the plight of stray animals in our community. We need all of the help we can get and we welcome anyone who would like to lend a hand.

💚Congratulations Wonder!💙

Wonder came to us in September with her sister in not the best condition. She was around 10 lbs, but most of her weight was from all the matted hair over her body. Wonder is a medium-haired cat, but since she had never brushed in 11 years, her hair began to matt together. Fortunately, we got her to the vet, where she received a nice new haircut, which Wonder did not appreciate. She wore a turtleneck sweater for a couple of weeks while her fur was growing back and became very attached to it. Wonder went home to a new forever family, taking her emotional support sweater with her!

We are thrilled to see Wonder finally go home after spending four months at the shelter with us. Her princess personality shone above all, and we will miss her drooly kisses!

Thank you for adopting Wonder💙

We are so happy to see this little guy finding his forever home! He and his three littermates, along with their mom, were dropped off at the shelter with no warning. Fortunately, all the kittens have found wonderful homes to live out the rest of their lives!

Thank you for adopting Pistachio💙

💚Congratulations Meadow!💙

Meadow was brought to us last month after being found running loose in a farmer's field. Despite our efforts to locate her owner or any information about her, no one came forward. However, as soon as we met her, we knew she was going to be adopted quickly. She's the sweetest little girl who loves to give kisses and run around outside. Although she never really learned how to play with toys, her goofy smile makes up for it 😊

We're thrilled to announce that Meadow has found a wonderful new home where she'll be able to thrive with her new family! This little girl deserves nothing but the best, and we're so happy she's found her forever home 💚

Thank you for adopting Meadow💙

💚Congratulations Cashew and Almond!💙

These two kittens went to their forever homes yesterday! Cashew and Almond were littermates and stayed at an amazing foster’s house for a while. While there, they were socialized with humans, babies, other cats, and dogs! Now they both are cuddle bugs that love any attention given to them 😊

We are thrilled that Cashew and Almond have found amazing homes where they will grow into wonderful cats! We know they'll receive plenty of belly rubs and snuggles in the future 💚

Thank you for adopting Cashew and Almond 💙

The Carleton County Animal Shelter would like to send a big shout out to Vanity Flair and Eska’s China for their generous donation of $1000. Kelly and her staff provide a gift wrapping service throughout the year for a donation towards the shelter and at year end Kelly tops it up. Thank you so much Vanity Flair for this donation and for everything you do for the shelter ❤️

💚Congratulations Frost and Toast!💙

Two adorable kittens, Frost and Toast, have found their forever home together today! When Frost first arrived, he was quite feisty, but with lots of love and playtime, he has become a sweet little boy who enjoys the company of humans and won't run away when you're around. Frost has the most beautiful blue eyes and loves to flaunt them!

On the other hand, Toast was very shy when he first came to us and still is. He prefers to snuggle up in hidey holes and sit in dark corners. However, after spending time with other kittens and staff members, he has become more social. Although he still has a bit of progress to make, we are optimistic that he will continue to make progress!

We are thrilled that Frost and Toast have found an amazing home where they will grow into wonderful cats! We know they'll receive plenty of belly rubs and snuggles in the future 💚

Thank you for adopting Frost and Toast💙

💚 It's time for Good and Bad Cat of the Week!💙

This week's Good Cat is Porridge (grey), who was returned to the shelter because her previous owner thought she was too aggressive. It was later discovered that Porridge was suffering from a severe and untreated urinary tract infection that was causing her a lot of pain. However, with proper medical attention and care, Porridge will be able to recover and feel a lot better! With some love and snuggles, Porridge has transformed into the sweetest little cuddle bug. Initially shy, Porridge now likes to curl up on our staff’s laps in a blanket and snooze the day away.

On the other hand, our oldest cat in the shelter, Purrcilla (brown), is the Bad Cat of the Week. This geriatric girl has hypothyroidism and requires long-term medication to stay alive. Unfortunately, Purrcilla is not fond of taking her pills and often tries to spit them out and hide them from the shelter staff. As shown in the photo, Purrcilla puts up a good fight as the staff tries to keep her from spitting out the pill.

For the last 50/50 draw of 2023, we have a non-winner. Larry Kennedy misses out on $67 which will be added to next week’s draw. Thank you to all that support our 50/50 each and every week!

💚Congratulations Hazel!💙

We are very happy to announce that our 3-year-long resident Hazel has been finally adopted! Miss Hazel was our little elf with a small face, big ears, and a plump body. She loved to get head rubs and follow you around when near her. When she first arrived at the shelter she wasn't the nicest kitty, but after a lot of loving and confidence, she became a cuddlebug! 😊

We are beyond thankful to her new family for adopting her just in time for her to spend Christmas at home. We hope Santa was nice to Hazel and her forever home! Hazel will be missed by all the staff and volunteers at the shelter but we could not be happier for her!

Thank you for adopting Hazel💙

💚It’s time for this week's Naughty and Nice Animals!💙

For our Naughty Animal of the Week, we have Diesel, the one-year-old Husky mix. With being part Husky, this big guy loves to talk back when you ask him to listen. Ask him to sit. He’ll yell at you. Ask him to wait. He’ll yell at you but he will still do as he’s told. What do you expect, he’s Diesel 💙

For our Nice Cat of the Week, we have Hashbrown, the most loving cat who loves belly rubs and ear rubs. This guy was found after he was attacked by a coyote, but Hashbrown (being the tough guy he is) fought to stay alive after being wounded. We thank the Florenceville Veterinary Clinic for keeping this big boy alive. Hashbrown is grateful to be in the warm and on the mend. 💚

Both Diesel and Hashbrown are available for adoption!

It's time for Spot The Difference!

Here we have Dusk and Dawn, our twin sisters who are just 1 year old. These two are bonded so they have to be adopted out to the same family!

These girls are some of the sweetest and most energetic cats we have had in a while. They came in with a bad skin infection but that did not stop them from stealing our hearts 💙

Dusk and Dawn are available for adoption!

You can call us at 506-277-1104 to book an appointment to meet the lovely girls

💚Congratulations Mushroom!💙

Mushroom has been a staple at the shelter for a couple of months now because of his unique personality! He is a fiend for any type of food (treats being his favourite) and will also take it upon himself to sample other cat’s food as well. Mushroom will inhale all his food in one gulp if we do not give him a slow feeder which has reduced the amount of messes he has made.

We are thrilled to see Mushroom be able to finally go home with his forever family! This crazy guy is a hoot and will be endless entertainment for his carers 😊

Thank you for adopting Mushroom💙

💚Congratulations Forest and V***n!💙

Forest (tabby) has been one of the sweetest and cuddliest boys at the shelter. He also was one of the loudest with his high-pitched meows. Forest came in with his already adopted sister Pekoe and a weirdly shaven back, but it is slowly growing to his normal look!

V***n (black) came in with her 3 brothers around a month ago and was the friendliest kitten at first. Over time, her brothers became sweet and confident thanks to her help! She loves rubbing people’s faces and following you around 😊

We are so happy that Forest and V***n have found their forever home with each other! Soon one of her brothers will be joining her, once he is neutered. We hope they have so much fun together!

Thank you for adopting Forest and V***n💙

💚Congratulations Eggnog!💙

This handsome fellow came to us as an incredibly friendly stray cat who was being fed by a gracious couple. He is the biggest baby who loves being cuddled and at first, he would not stop meowing until he got his way.

Eggnog stole the hearts of all the staff at the shelter for the brief time he was with us, but we are thrilled to see him go home! We hope he has unlimited cuddles and head scratches from his forever home!

Thank you for adopting Eggnog 💙

💚It’s time for this week's Naughty and Nice Cats!💙

For our Naughty Cat of the Week, we have Hope (calico/tabby), who has decided that if we don't feed her first then she will spill water all over her kennel and the floor. Every day we will be down the hall from her, feeding other cats, when we see this figure climbing the kennel walls. Ultimately when she gets to the top she will end up slipping and falling directly into her water bowl. Then Soggy Hope will sulk but eventually ends up repeating this action 5 more times. Maybe Hope just really wants a bath, who knows 💙

For our Nice Cat of the Week, we have Reed (brown tabby), who is a recent addition to the shelter. Her first couple of days were full of hisses as she decided we were untrustworthy for touching and cleaning her possessions. After reassuring her, with love and treats, she is finally warming up to us and loves getting ear scratches! 💚

Both Hope and Reed are available for adoption!

12/15/2023

We have another non-winner in this week’s 50/50 draw. Lynn Desroches misses out on $210 which will be added to next week’s jackpot.

💚Congratulations Dijon!💙

There are many words to describe Dijon but the best one we can think of is moist. This goopy guy came to us very underweight and sick with a virus. His personality shone through as soon as we saw him with boogers flowing out his nose. Luckily, we got him into the vet and he has been on medication ever since. Dijon didn't let his illness stop him as he ripped his stitches after his neuter and had to go back to the emergency vet for help.

He is an incredibly cuddly guy and will never say no to a treat! We are so happy to see Dijon go to a perfect forever home with the most loving people!

Thank you for adopting Dijon 💙

💚 Here are Cosmo (all white) and Wanda (black and white)!

They are 3 months old and ready for adoption soon.

We are hoping to get some more weight on them before they leave as they are pretty skinny! These guys were found on the side of the road in a snowstorm and came to us all wet and shivering.
They also were infested with fleas and ear mites on arrival and have been treated for both.

We are hoping to have these kids adopted together if possible! They are the sweet guys who love to run around with their roommates and play ball 💙

If you are interested in adopting one or both, you can call us at 506-277-1104 from 10-4 for more details!

💚 Let’s get these guys home for Christmas! 💙

Update: WOW WOW WOW.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed - a few moments ago we had a donor pay off the bill in its entirety! 💙💚

All donations that have been received for Milo will be used for his future check ups and appointments.

THANK YOU 💚💙

If you’re local to Debec or have visited us or the General store, chances are you recognize or have had the pleasure of meeting this handsome guy.

Milo is known as the “village or town cat” and can often be found lounging at the store or hanging out on porches, leaving presents
(🐭🐦🐿) at the doors of those he loves.

Unfortunately our beloved boy was injured recently and sustained multiple fractures and broke his front paw.

Everyone involved is doing what they can for this sweet boy but unfortunately everything has a cost and with no true owner to pay, his fees have fallen on to all of us who watch over him.
If you would like to contribute to helping Milo get back on all four paws 🐾🐾, donations can be made on his behalf.
So far we need $460.12 to pay off his current bill.

We would like to extend a MASSIVE thank you to the incredible woman that volunteered to foster him until he regains his strength. 💙
The lovely staff at the General store for always looking out for him and contacting us for help. 💚
And the fantastic staff at the Woodstock/Florenceville vet clinic for fitting us in on short notice and taking such good care of him. 💙
We would also like to thank all of those who share this post, are able to donate and to those who pray for his healing. 💚

Today we are starting a new weekly series for our Naughty and Nice Animals!

💙 This week our Naughty Cat of the Week was Dijon, the craziest orange cat in existence! Dijon has an upper respiratory virus right now so he has been sneezing up a storm. However, this gross guy likes to eat his boogers after he sneezes them out. As they say, better out than in, but in his case, they go back in!

💚 Our Nice Cat of the Week is Eggnog, one of our newer residents! He was having a rough time at the beginning of his stay making friends and being nice to other cats, but after a lot of love, he is a cuddle bug. We introduced him to a new room in our building filled with 12 other friends and he has been taking it like a champ! After staying in a kennel to get acclimated to the other cats, he was released on Monday and has been loving the cat trees and endless pillows! ☺️

💚Congratulations Maybel!💙

This little chunky girl was adopted in mid-November but we forgot to do an adoption post on her! Maybel (now Lola) was such a kind and playful girl who loved any attention given to her. During the day you would see her sunbathe on her blanket and play with her rat toy before it was eventually taken by Diesel. I think this angel stole all our hearts at the shelter 🥹

We are so incredibly happy to see Maybel go to her new home with an amazing family! We will miss her so much but we couldn’t be happier for her!

Thank you for adopting Maybel 💙

💚Congratulations Midnight!💙

When this little girl came in with her 2 sisters (Dusk and Dawn), they all had nasty skin infections. Over a couple of weeks, they all started to feel better, thankfully, and were ready to be moved into rooms. At first, Midnight was the calm one of the bunch, but after she became healthy, her energy came running right through her!

We hope Midnight and her family will have lots of fun together! We will dearly miss this sweet girl, but we are so glad she found her forever home!

Thank you for adopting Midnight 💙

💚 URGENT FOSTERS NEEDED 💙

We had an unfortunate situation occur this morning that has left us desperate…

If there is anyone in our area that has a spare room and would be willing to foster this family (four approx 2 month old kittens and their mother) until we can get proper space we would be exceedingly grateful.
Please call the shelter (506)-277-1104 to speak to a staff about fostering or fill out the application linked here : https://www.ccasnb.ca/foster-parent-agreement

THANK YOU 💙

To the person who dropped them in our office while staff were busy - we’re glad you did the right thing by bringing them to a shelter but abandoning this family at an already FULL one and ignoring our process was not ok.

These lives were your responsibility when you chose to not have your cat spayed and exposed her to an intact male.

You have forced our staff to scramble and make space when there isn’t any to make.

There was a better and right way to go about surrendering them.

So please - If you find yourself in a situation please do the right thing and call ahead to ensure we have the space available and stay for the full process.
