Wow, over $26,000! This is amazing!! 👏🔥

The Deep River & District Health Foundation is thrilled to announce that its 22nd Annual Golf Tournament has successfully raised over $26,000 for the Closer To Home campaign.

The event, held at the picturesque Deep River Golf Course, was a resounding success thanks to the generous support of our sponsors and participants.

Teams enjoyed a day of golf on the course under perfect weather conditions—sunny skies, a gentle breeze, and ideal temperatures.

HANK says HAPPY LONG WEEKEND! 🌞

This extremely handsome fella has made a 180 since we pulled him from the shelter mere minutes before euthanasia. HANK really is a special dog, anyone would be lucky to have him.

You know those dogs that are aloof at first but bond STRONGLY? That's this guy. Once you build the relationship with him, he will be your ride or die - hands down.

I BARK, YOU JUMP BACK, MISSION COMPLETE.

ROONEY came to us to work on his barking frenzies and aggression. His family wasn't ever able to stop and chat with anyone as he had created a wide radius of a "nope zone" around them and would absolutely flip his lid if anyone tried to get too close.

By the end of our first session, ROONEY was calmly laying down as we were recapping what we just went through. His family had NEVER experienced that with him before, being able to calmly chat with a person standing nearby. Especially someone new, who was moving around and closing the distance completely.

His family now has the knowledge and the tools to ensure ROONEY's success and with that came relaxing walks and more confidence in him - which means he can go more places with them and live a fuller, happier life without being in a stressed, stimulated state of mind all the time.

Great job ROONEY! 🎉👏

HOT DIGGITY DOG. 🌭

We've been getting a ton of and we're super happy about it! These little tenacious dogs may seem like an easy, cute breed but they actually have a lot going on under the hood!

ELVIS struggles with reactivity and has become a bite risk, so his family reached out for help.

LEO says HAPPY ! 🎉

This awesome came to us to work on his reactivity and boy, did he absolutely crush it. He is now able to co-exist around other dogs without any snarling, lunging and barking.

His family can even stop and chat with someone with a dog without having to avoid, feel stressed out or frustrated - a true breath of fresh air for both them and LEO.

We don't start by "tackling the outbursts" and instead start from the bottom up. There's so much for both YOU and your dog to learn before you get there.

Everyone is looking for the latest, craftiest, most intellectually stunning training protocol—when in fact the most impactful and naughty-behavior preventative is wildly simple.

It’s the psychological game of creating healthy social dynamics in tiny moments of seemingly no consequence… but which are anything but.

Dog training success, and living well with dogs in general, is far more about creating and maintaining healthy social dynamics—how the dog perceives you and how they perceive themselves—than it is clever mechanics, complex protocols, and fancy tools.

But alas we live in a time where acknowledging this once glaringly obvious insight is considered unsavory and unsophisticated. And so owners will continue to “build” canine monsters by way of allowance and missed opportunities—and will continue to then attempt to undo the mountain of issues they’ve unwittingly created… fully unaware that it’s far more of a perception and respect issue than it is something which simply, and mysteriously bubbled to the surface without the human’s encouragement.

Trainers routinely watch dogs play the game of offering their best to those who demand it and offering something very different to those who don’t.

The sheer number of highly trained dogs running around pretending not to know anything is one of the greatest ruses ever pulled on permissive and/or gullible owners.

This is why your trainer can’t (or shouldn’t) make any guarantees about how the dog will behave with you—because if you won’t hold the dog accountable for what it knows and is capable of, your dog’s “memory” will be impressively brief.

Of course your trainer has to train you as much as they do the dog—or more—but once that knowledge is passed along, only one party can make the new reality… reality.

And yes, you can feel free to substitute child for dog if that helps bring more clarity to this dynamic that you’ve almost certainly seen in other contexts.

HANK is still looking for his forever home! This guy has grown SO much since we have had him. He went from having intense dog aggression to being a dog we now use to teach newcomers neutrality.

He really picked up the "teacher" torch and ran with it. Really love this guy, he deserves the absolute best home who will continue to help him thrive!

Say hello to Hank, a 4 year old, neutered male German Shepherd located in Ontario.

This handsome boy had a rough start in life and was on the euthanasia list at the shelter when we found him. Luckily for Hank, he found his way to an experienced foster, who has been working diligently with him since day one.

Hank is a lot of dog and is not for the novice handler. He will need someone that will provide firm, fair, and consistent guidance. He was noted to have serious dog aggression and seemed to be lacking in exposure and socialization. In the beginning and without proper handling, he could become overwhelmed and turn to chaotic behaviour.

However, over the last 3 months since being rescued, Hank has been in an immersive training program and has made tremendous progress! He thrives with a handler he can trust that is confident in their leadership and clear in their communication. We have watched him grow in confidence and biddability. In obedience, he can be very responsive, especially when working for a reward. Hank has high drive and is very ball and food motivated, allowing for quick progress once he is clear on expectations. We feel Hank would do well in a sport home, where he had purpose for his drive and a regular outlet for his energy.

Hank’s new owner will need to continue with training and exposure to different environments, while setting him up for success. We are currently using a prong collar and have also started e-collar communication. To build on his progress, we strongly recommend that his new home continues to use the same tools to keep training and communication consistent. We know Hank has a lot of potential to be an amazing dog, as such, we are offering a complimentary One Hour Private Session with Navi K9 to ensure his transition into his forever home goes as smooth as possible.

Since we’ve had him and as our relationship has developed, Hank has really grown on us. He likes to interact with his handler, loves to work for toys, and brings an intensity that makes him fun to work with. Once you build a relationship, Hank’s soft and gentle side comes out. He truly is a great dog and deserves a second chance at life in a home that understands his needs.

One of the things we see come up often with clients are misconceptions about muzzle type and fit. For something that seems pretty "basic" when it comes to dog ownership, so many peopld have no idea what a well fit muzzle looks like or what types of muzzles are acceptable for different applications.

It is paramount to ensure muzzling is taught to have it become a solid life skill. It's right up there with crate training!

Without going too far down the rabbit hole, there are:

👉 "Vet" style muzzles that are only meant to be worn very short term (the ones that more or less hold the muzzle shut)
👉 Rubber basket muzzles, like Baskerville, are meant for longer wear and are a great, cheaper alternative to the types that will follow. However, these are not bite proof in all scenarios and tend to have a less than desirable fit on a lot of dogs.
👉 Vinyl/Polyethylene muzzles, like JAFCO and (LOKI is modeling one of Mia's in the pic! 😍) are meant for longer term wear with ultimate comfort (for both humans and dogs) and proper fit as the top priorities ( does custom gear 👀). These are closer to being bite proof than the above muzzle.
👉 Wire basket muzzles, can be worn for longer periods of time and can also be custom fit (check out ). Wire basket muzzles can be dangerous for both humans and other dogs depending on the situations they are being used in. On the other hand, they are also very close to being bite proof.
👉 Leather muzzles are an amazing choice when it comes to being bite proof, however they are not meant for long term wear.

It's so important to understand the difference in muzzle styles and to utilize each one correctly based on context, needs and goals.
