63 Days to Puppies:
DAY 1: Mating/Tying. (Weird fact: Day 1 starts at ovulation and not when the dogs mated/tied)
DAY 2: Conception & Fertilization
DAY 10-11: Fertilized eggs are now called Blastocysts (they begin to split)
DAY 14-15: First signs of swelling & soreness begins (ni***es will start to enlarge and darken)
DAY 18-20: Implantation occurs and we now have embryos
DAY 20: Hair loss you say? Yes...Mama begins (and continues) to loose hair around her ni***es/stomach area in preparation for puppies
DAY 21-28: Morning sickness! Mama will begin to feel the pregnancy and with that comes morning sickness. The puppies are developing quickly and are now forming facial features and spinal cords
DAY 30: Half way there .... now she begins her Second Bi-mester (similar to that of a human tri-mester). Mama may show signs of nesting. You can have an ultrasounds to confirm the pregnancy and confirm the expected # of puppies. Puppies are starting to develop their toes, claws and gender specific parts. Mama is free eating at this stage and you notice a huge uptick in food.
DAY 40: We are getting closer... the puppies skin pigment begins to develop and mom may start to lose her appetite at this point... so lots of extras are appreciated in her diet.
DAY 47: Mama is eating about 3-4x her food, but a full uterus can slow this down so yogurt, cottage cheese, gravy might help encourage eating.
DAY 50: Time to set up your whelping area and ensure you have ALL your supplies.
DAY 55: You can now do a X-ray to confirm puppy size and count.
DAY 60-65: It's puppy time! While puppies are typically born on day 63 there is always a bit of wiggle room when waiting for puppies... now is the time to watch for active nesting, mama doesn't get left alone out side. Trim up excess hair around the back end and belly. Camera's are on monitoring mama if you are out of the house. Mama will start to leak out milk/colostrum i the ni***es are pressed/squeezed and a quick temperature drop indicates labour is coming in 12-24 hrs.
