Earthwise Society Community, our earth, and how we act within it Earthwise is a not-for-profit, charitable organization.

We are a community resource on ecological gardening, a model of best practice for sustainable horticulture, a public space where the community connects with nature. The Earthwise Society operates the Boundary Bay Earthwise Garden and Demonstration Food Gardens. We put people of all ages in touch with the earth, from grade school children learning about soil, biodiversity, wildlife stewardship and

resource conservation; to adults learning about ecological gardening, composting and growing food. The Earthwise Garden demonstrates that it is possible to have a healthy, sustainable, beautiful landscape without the use of chemicals. The Earthwise Demonstration Food Gardens puts the community in touch with food, where it comes from, how it grows, the ecological costs of getting it to our tables, and the importance of sustainable organic growing practices.

We’ve had an amazing time hosting our Garden to Table cooking classes for seniors! A big thank you to the talented Chef John, and to Southlands Grange Centre for Farming & Food for lending us the kitchen space. These classes are designed to help seniors navigate rising food costs by teaching simple, budget-friendly techniques to create delicious, healthy meals using fresh Earthwise produce.

Today this garden rabbit is being kind enough to eat the weeds out of the tile work for us! If you ever find that rabbits are being less polite than this one, try planting marigold, onion or garlic around your garden to discourage them from entering.

Amaranth, with its vibrant colours and nutritious seeds, is an undeniable favourite among birds, as you can tell from their joyful flutter around the garden!

Bees and pollinators were everywhere at this weekend's Pollinators For Farmers Workshop. It was a great exchange of ideas, information and plans to assist farmers and gardeners alike in their quest to plant bee- and pollinator-friendly hedgerows, pathways and gardens. Remember, planting + pollinators = increased yield and profit per acre.

Our very special guests! If you look closely you can see a pellet. A pellet is the mass of undigested parts of a bird's food that is occasionally regurgitated. The contents of a pellet depend on diet, but can include the exoskeletons of insects, indigestible plant matter, bones, fur, feathers, bills, claws, and teeth.
