Thank you to Elder Ruth Adams, xʷəsteniya, of sc̓əwaθən məsteyəxʷ, Tsawassen First Nation, for welcoming us to the traditional unceded
territories of the scəw̓aθən (Tsawwassen), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), and other Coast Salish Peoples with the Coast Salish Anthem. We are privileged to be able to conduct our business on these lands today. We are grateful to Elder xʷəsteniya for officially opening our hospital and guiding us in the spirit of reconciliation.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our open house and helped us to officially open our beautiful new hospital. We look forward to many years of helping pets and their people here.🐾❤️

Sometime over night our brand new clinic was burglarized. The thieves managed to get all of our double secured control drugs and a number of other medications we keep in clinic.

Luckily there was no property damage, and no equipment or electronics were taken.

We were so excited to open our brand new space yesterday, and this has really dealt us a blow. We were not expecting our "ribbon cutting" ceremony to include cutting down police tape 😓

If you have any information or dashcam footage that might be helpful, please contact DPD. Case #24-18172

While we prepare for our move, we are digging up treasures from the past. So far, the oldest find is an x-ray from July 1970. It appears a poor dog named Bodo fractured his radius and ulna. Our founder, Dr. Huff took care of many exotic species. We also found x-rays of many types of wildlife. #2, a horned owl with a frqctured wing, #3 an opossum (unknown condition), #4 a racoon with a fractured tibia, #5 an amazon parrot with a pinned leg, #6 an amazon parrot with two pinned legs, #7 a (unknown) hawk with a pinned leg.

Most of these exotic x-rays are dated from the 80s!

UPDATE:

The CDC has updated it's requirements and added an option for dogs who frequently travel from Canada to the US.

A CDC import form will be required. This form has not yet been released by the CDC. It will be available on July 15, 2024. We do not know what will be required for this form.

We are STILL required to fill out a form which includes rabies vaccine information. This form is good for multiple entries into the US while the rabies vaccine is valid. The form MUST also be signed by a government veterinarian at the CFIA. You MUST also have veterinary records from the previous 6 months.

As we've seen, this information is still evolving, and may still change.

🇺🇸🇨🇦The US Centers for Disease Control has announced changes to requirements for dogs entering the US. We understand that this will cause some complications for our clients who frequently travel to Point Roberts, and clients who live in Point Roberts. We do not have full information on the requirements yet. We do not have any influence or say in these new requirements and we are unable to write any type of exception letter for the requirements.

WHAT WE DO KNOW:

* All dogs entering the US must have an ISO microchip (all microchips implanted at Huff are ISO chips)

* Dogs under 6 months old cannot travel to the US.

* Dogs must be vaccinated for rabies AFTER being microchipped (or at the same time)

* Dogs entering the US from Canada who have been vaccinated in Canada (or outside of US) must have a Certificate of Foreign Rabies Vaccine and Microchip. This form is valid for 30 days only and must be signed by a family veterinarian AND a government official veterinarian (CFIA) This form will require an examination by a veterinarian.

* Dogs vaccinated for rabies in the US can get a Certification of US-issued Rabies Vaccination issued by a USDA-accredited veterinarian.

WHAT WE DON'T KNOW:

* What the process will look like for getting paperwork certified by a government veterinarian (CFIA)

* Whether the CDC or the CBP will make any kinds of accommodations for US enclaves like Point Roberts.

We encourage you to use the "DogBot" tool on the CDC website to find out the specific requirements for your dog. https://www.cdc.gov/importation/bringing-an-animal-into-the-united-states/dogs.html

We will keep you updated as we know more information.

❄️❄️ Due to the weather, we've canceled our morning appointments. We do have some staff on site to help you if you need any food or medications. Depending on whether our doctors can dig themselves out in the afternoon, we may be open for appointments after 2. Please note that our driveway has been plowed. However, the snow isn't stopping, so we aren't able to keep it 100% clear. Stay safe and warm! ❄️❄️
