Bug Sprays: Toxic for Pets!
As summer bugs come out in full force, we all want to protect ourselves, but bug sprays and repellents can be dangerous to our pets if not used properly!
What to watch out for:
- DEET (in insect repellents): This common ingredient can cause vomiting, drooling, tremors, and seizures in pets.
- Citronella & essential oils: While great for humans, these can cause respiratory issues, skin burns, or digestive upset in pets when ingested or inhaled.
- Pyrethrins (in some sprays): Toxic to cats and can cause lethargy, drooling, or even seizures.
Pet safety tips:
- Keep bug sprays and repellents away from your pets—don’t apply them to their fur or skin.
- Use pet-safe products—always choose repellents specifically labeled as safe for pets.
- Wash your pet if they’ve been exposed to any toxic sprays.
- Avoid outdoor chemicals—and if you must use them, make sure pets are kept inside.
