DID YOU KNOW? 🤔

As a responsible parront you should disease test your birds.
Disease can be caused by many factors such as poor living conditions and sanitation, contamination within the household, but also from external sources such as wildlife, visitors, etc...
It is, therefore, essential that we test our birds, not only for their own well-being but also to prevent the possible spread of disease to other birds they may come into contact with during their lifetime.
Parrots, in the wild, are prey animals. They retain some of their natural survival instincts even in captivity.
Parrots will hide any signs of illness for as long as possible in order to avoid appearing weak and vulnerable in the eyes of potential predators. Often by the time we become aware that our parrot is unwell, the illness has possibly become progressively worse and harder to treat with less chance of recovery.

Several examples of avian diseases are as follows:
Proventricular Dilatation Disease (PDD)
Psittacosis (Chlamydia psittaci)
Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease (PBFD)
Aspergillosis
Polyomavirus

General signs of illness are:
unusual droppings (abnormal colour/consistency)
ruffled feathers
sleeping more than usual
cloudy eyes
reduced appetite
drinking significantly more or less than usual
open-mouthed breathing, or abnormal sounds (e.g. clicking, wheezing) while breathing
changes in vocalisation
weight loss
discharge from the eyes, nose or mouth
injury, bleeding, enlargement or swelling of the body
vomiting or regurgitation

Birds have very delicate systems, so early diagnosis is imperative and could save your bird’s life. If you notice any of the above signs, please consult your avian vet immediately.

Sharing because this super important for my followers as well to be aware.

Please be diligent when looking online for your next companion(s) or stocks.

I do not tolerate scammers stealing mine or any other breeder/pet owners photos. These losers cut off the water mark on a pic of Elvis. I have found angry faces work the best on all their photos. They cannot delete angry emojis even after they ban you, it makes people think twice before sending them $$. I have had people reach out several times and say the angry faces stopped them from getting scammed. So anyone feeling like blasting this scamming turd feel free! Here is the link to his page...

Not my post

This is why I take being accused as a Greeder so seriously from anyone and everyone. No ethical breeder in their right mind would ever do this unless they want to face penalties. And as FHA states: This is probably taken in a country where animals rights don't exist. Most of the 7 Continents have Animal Rights Laws. It's the countries and towns in said continents in the East(mostly) where these unethical practices can continue.

And Rescues need to grow up and stop this war on Breeders and look at the facts. And the people who work in it and run these rescues. If they can remember that (unethical)[Greeder]Breeders are not the *only* factor into why there are so many avians needing to be rescued. Not to mention some Breeders are multi-purpose avian caretakers: We also Rescue, we also Foster, we also take in Surrenders, and we also advocate for the well-being and rights of animals. So like, can you leave us alone?

~ Rant Over, I'll see if I can post something positive today ~

This photo is absolutely infuriating. But you know what is just as frustrating? The person that added the inflammatory wording to the disgusting photo and the rescue that posted it. This photo was almost guaranteed taken outside of the USA in a 3rd world country. While that doesn't excuse the horrendous condition of these poor birds, there are literally no regulations and animals have zero rights in those places.

This rescue and the person who added the words are playing on people's emotions and are 100% wrong to accuse all breeders of being selfish animal t*rturers. I don't know any breeder what would do anything even remotely close to what this picture depicts. There are a lot of crappy animal resellers and some very bad breeders, I'm not blind to this. But the majority of us love our animals dearly and this photo makes us as sick as anyone else. For this rescue to use an abusive extremist photo to paint their narrative is irresponsible. This is just another example of the fake news and misinformation that is being spread and eaten up by the gullible. Another example of why there is such a divide between breeders and rescues. If we're ever going to start working together this dangerous rhetoric needs to stop.

You know those videos online of people's budgies being way too h***y with like, a hand or shoe or leg or anything their little peets can balance on?

Yeah two of my untamed males turned tamed and one of them wanted to mate my hand— he didn't do the act. But damn he was close.

They aren't even 1 year old yet 😭

UPDATE, MAJOR

I just decided to add the rest of the Adopt Flock into the Post, however I put in an image that divides the Disease-tested and Wellness Checked individuals from the the non-tested individuals. So the ones whose info sheets I just added are past that image. You’ll see it when you scroll through the images on this post.

I gotta add some more to the list so that will take me until some time after Monday to upload.

One thing I have to be wary of when purchasing perches from pet stores is their quality.

I am a die hard fan of these thick perches for all my enclosures. Problem is a lot of the times I find the life is already pretty low, but also the quality can cause issues with my birds.

Such as these cracks where the screw is situated in. From my experience first-hand is these crevases allow for the claws of the birds to get stuck and it's very concerning for the bird who wants to disburse. They get stuck for a split second then fly off. Still not a good thing, it's a tiny risk of a broken leg at worse. So whenever I see these in stock I quality check them.

No cracks = purchase
Cracks = Back on the stand you go.

I got 3 perches of a smaller size and thickness that were in top condition. Might go to the other petsnart later and see what they have available.

I don't *want* to do anything until January 2025 with the Breeding Programs because I want to sort everything out with Disease Testing and making sure everyone is healthy and is not spreading anything amongst the flock.

But I'm writing out the final Info Sheets for all the birds I have on an Adopt list.

And Tweety is giving me a headache.

I thought he was a (Df)Spangle, but he doesn't have the Blue cere for a mature male with the mutation.

The other possibility was Dark-Eyed Clear (Clearflight/Rec. Pied), but his eyes do not fit the standard.

Other *other* possibility was (Lut)ino but he does not have the red eyes or even the slightest red pigment in his eyes.

The other other other possibility was Greywing Rec. Pied but I only ever owned 1 of that mutation mix and the eyes were completely dark like a Dark-Eyed Clear without being a Dark-Eyed Clear.

I think Tweety is a (Df) of either Dom. Pied or Clearflight Pied mixed with Greywing, or some sort of mix of something.

Wanna know the only way to find out what his mutations are?

I *have* to breed him.

But since he's a part of the Adopt List, I *really* don't want to take him out to simply breed him to figure out what he is. I want to control my population with birds I will intent to use to strengthen and improve the gene pool and conserve the uncommon and rare mutations. Not breed common mutations into the population because I can't figure out what a bird's mutation is + not have homes on back-up.

~~~ I know when people adopt, colouring and mutations can be an influential factor to adoption. Others don't care at all. But for the info sheets. I need to be as accurate as possible, and mutations need to be considered and marked down on these sheets. Hence now this predicament. ~~~
One thing I can do is try and get him adopted on Oct. 26th when I'm at the Bird Show. If he and a disease-tested non-adopted female who has very basic and minimal mutations do not get adopted that day. I'll make them a breeding pair right away and breed them (So far he takes an interest in Apatite, and I know her mutations.)
The other thing I can do (which I prefer) is if someone is interested in adopting him. I will write a note letting adopters know that his phenotype is extremely confusing and conflicting and all that I know is that Tweety is a Yellow Series. Whether someone breeds him or not will be up to the adopter. But if a breeder intends to get him as a Stock, then I want the breeder to then tell me the offspring results because I'm genuinely curious.
Anyways, there's my predicament for the evening. And about the only thing that may seem generally interesting with what's going on on my end.
BTW if anyone wants to take a gamble at what Tweety may be, have at it! You'll probably have more creative and/or accurate identification ability than I do.
