A Home for Hooves Farm Sanctuary

A Home for Hooves Farm Sanctuary We provide a forever home for rescued farm animals who have been abandoned, seized by the S.P.C.A., or surrendered due to various circumstances.

We are a volunteer run, registered Charity organisation in Duncan BC, that offers a forever home for rescued farm animals who are abandoned, seized by the S.P.C.A., or surrendered due to various circumstances. Our Sanctuary was founded in September 2017 and we are the first and only Farm Sanctuary in Canada to be Accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries. We currently care for near

ly 200 residents including pigs, goats, sheep, cattle, horses, donkeys, chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys, peafowl, dogs, guinea pigs, and cats. We ensure all our animals are provided with the best quality care and a safe home where they are able to live out their natural lives. We aim to advance education by providing workshops, seminars, classes, and presentations on animal practices, rescue, and care. In early 2019 we began an adoption and foster program to place healthy and well-suited, non-farm animals in safe and loving homes. Our Sanctuary provides a forever home for farm animals who are older, are difficult to place, have diverse needs, have behavioural issues, or require long term medical intervention. Our volunteers help us with the everyday care of the animals, social media, graphic design, fundraising, newsletter writing, and event planning, and ensure the animals are well cared for and our organisation runs smoothly. We would also like to acknowledge that our Sanctuary is located within the ancestral, traditional, and unceded territory of the Quw'utsun Nation, near the traditional village of Ts'alha'um.

Over 100 hours of veterinary care was provided to the animals in 2024!

We are incredibly fortunate to have Dr. Watson attend the sanctuary every Wednesday morning each week. We have been working with Dr. Watson for years now and we have a very close relationship with him. He has a heart of gold, he is extremely supportive, and he does so much for the animals under our care.
Veterinary care for farmed animals is not always easy to find, but Dr. Watson is always here for us and he's game for anything we toss his way!

But most importantly, you make this happen! Your support of the sanctuary ensures the animals have access to timely and proactive medical care which is so important for their quality of life.

As you know, the sanctuary took possession of a 40-acre property in April 2024. There has been an astronomical amount of work done in order to start welcoming the animal’s home, and this work will continue into 2025. To date, over 70% of the sanctuary animals have moved to our forever home, Fields of Compassion, and we're on track to bring everyone else home very soon.

Due to your support this is all the work that has been completed in the past 7 months:
- Numerous maple trees were topped in order to ensure the animals' safety
- A new 6’ perimeter fence was installed around the 40-acre property
- Hundreds of feet of 4’ fencing was installed, completing 11 enclosures
- A new shelter was built, with an overhang, for the big pig herd
- A new well house was constructed with a top-of-the-line filtration system to ensure safe drinking water for everyone
- Two of the barns had new metal roofs installed
- The interior of the ruminant barn was retrofitted to accommodate 4 different herds
- New gutters were installed on all the buildings
- Over 1000 bales of hay were hauled off our new fields
- The interior of the bird barn was retrofitted with 8 enclosures that ensure complete protection from all predators including mink
- Numerous trips, with our transport trailers, were completed to move equipment and supplies
- Over 15 animal shelters were moved from our old location to our new one

Thank you for ensuring this important was completed!

2024 was an absolutely phenomenal year for A Home for Hooves all due to your love and support. The journey that the organization has embarked on has been incredible and we are all looking forward to 2025.

The sanctuary’s number one purpose is to provide a safe haven for farmed animals in desperate need of help. Your dedication and support ensured we could come to the rescue of over 50 animals in need in the past year. Many of these individuals were in life or death situations; some needed life saving surgery or other forms of care in order to thrive and live their best life.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything you have done for the sanctuary animals in the past year. 💕 Below are a few of the faces you provided sanctuary to in 2024.

Earl the donkey found companionship and proper farrier care to correct his extremely overgrown hooves.

Blake the rabbit received life saving surgery for a punctured eye and shattered back leg.

Darwin the goat was provided safety after he lost his sister to a bear attack.

The Duchess was welcomed into our chicken flock after she lost her family to a cougar attack.

Timmy the goat was given a safe haven after he lost his brother to a cougar attack.

Gretel the duck was bonded with our duck flock with diverse needs due to mobility struggles related to a leg fracture.

Jazz the rooster now has a flock of his own after he was surrendered due to bylaw violations in relation to crowing.

Betty, Gladys, and Walter joined our sheep family in order to save them from slaughter.

Luigi joined our family, along with his brother Mario, after they kept escaping from their home. Luigi has now been seen by a specialist due to his heart murmur and will soon undergo surgery for cryptorchidism.

Pongo the pig has a new lease on life after spending nearly 10 years confined to a carport.

This would not have been possible without your support.

Betty & Sam 🤎🤍

When Sam first arrived in 2021, he had a companion named Betty with whom he was inseparable. Although she passed away a few years later, this makes the photo of the new resident, also named Betty, even more special.
