The Monday morning mash up crew! Everyone is on vacation so Buddy and Teddy joined the morning group for a walk/hike. Aside from a potential p*e mishap everyone got on amazingly, I love that my dogs are all interchangeable and can slot into any pack 🐾

Cool Thursday morning with this little crew 😍

Oddly as we all enjoyed some excellent loose leash walking from Penny and the Schnauzers who were calm and hands free with my walkmultipledogs leash set, we got a “she’s got her hands full” passive aggressive comment from a passer by. I always find it strange to get comments like that when my pack are walking calmly beside me 🤷‍♀️ 🐾

Poppy doesn’t much like the heat (also other dogs and being told what to do), so we went for a quiet, early stroll in the shade. We both channelled our inner 🐻 by raiding all the berries we could find 😋 🐾

The Tuesday trotters were in high spirits today. This group is such a fun group but aren’t without their quirks, the final pictures show Minnie with a mouthful of something she shouldn’t have, Lincoln pulling and Summer giving me side eye for some perceived slight! I love working with these pups and ironing out some of the kinks, although walking a perfect pack would be boring! 🐾

Building a dream, one dog at a time

As a life long dog owner and lover I’ve often dreamed of turning my passion into my living, and 2018 is the year I’m going to make it happen along with my faithful hound Harry.

I’m 36 and originally from England but have lived in glorious Victoria for five years. In my spare time I can usually be found in the forest, on a beach or heading out for adventures with Harry. I love to run, ride, hike and explore and would love to share my adventures with four-legged friends. I’ve worked in the communication sector for 12 years but have decided to take the leap and follow my dream.

I know the conflict of managing life and work commitments with being a responsible dog owner, and my aim is to provide a reliable, flexible and affordable solution for dog owners. My emphasis is on peace of mind for the owner and a fun experience for the dog. I plan on never walking more than five (ideally four) dogs at a time so each dog can get my attention and have an enjoyable walk.

I’m currently working towards completing my pet first aid certification, finding a suitable insurance policy and building my website, but I plan to be up and running by mid April 2018. In the meantime my faithful partner Jeromy is helping out with some neigbourhood dogs. Exciting and scary times ahead!

Building a dream, one year on!

It’s been just under a year since I launched Hot Dogs and what a year it’s been.

Business wise, Hot Dogs has expanded to a pack of 22 dogs which is amazing! I’m also now am a certified pet first aider, am fully insured and own more leashes and items of waterproof clothing than I thought was possible!

On a personal level there have been some new additions in Hot Dog number two Ruby in February and some losses in the loss of my father in July. Through the tough times the support of my clients has been incredible and being surrounded by dogs has been a real tonic. While watching Ruby flourish from a timid, untrained, nervous stray to the confident dog she is now has reaffirmed why I do what I do. While her recall is still a work in progress, she joins in with as many hikes as she can and loves her pack walks. She loves to play with Riley, Daisy and her BFF Ella.

I met some amazing humans and dogs and have learnt so much, not only about running a business, but also about dogs. I’m learning that you never stop learning but sticking to my aim of not walking more than four dogs at a time has enabled me to really get to know my dogs and know what makes them tick, what their triggers are and how to best work with them. The social interactions between the hike dogs in particular are fascinating and at times hilarious as they form friendships and at times rivalries. I’ve been very lucky in that all of the dogs are happy and friendly and while I let them be dogs I’m always watching for signs that playtime is getting out of control. One thing they all know is that I am in charge of the pack!

Being greeted everyday by colleagues who can’t wait to see you is the best feeling, although having colleagues that lick you and jump up on you has been a change for sure, especially when it comes to trying to take a bathroom break mid hike!

In 2019 we hope to continue to expand and add more dogs to the pack and are planning some dog training classes for us to make us the best we can be, and hopefully roll training out to clients too.
