The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, alongside Orange Shirt Day stand as a day to commemorate the legacy of residential schools and acknowledge the lasting impacts on the survivors, their families and communities, while
honoring the children who never returned home. Recognizing this painful history is a vital piece of reconciliation. It opens up the opportunities for education and awareness as well as discussions for effective change that requires Indigenous and non- Indigenous peoples to work together to create an environment free from racism and discrimination in which all people feel safe and respected.
Today our team will be wearing orange shirts to recognize this day. We will also be supporting a local indigenous company and learning more about their culture through their foods. Boreal will be open 24/7 today to offer support to our veterinary colleagues who want to observe this day.

Boreal Veterinary Centre is proud to support our referring community and their patients so that they are able to enjoy some time with family too. Our team is ready to assist you and your pet 24/7. We hope you all have a very happy and safe long weekend. A reminder that we work on a triage basis where every pet is triaged immediately upon arrival by a Registered Veterinary Technologist, but the sickest patients will see our Veterinarians first.

Boreal Veterinary Centre is excited to welcome Cardiology to our growing list of Specialties! Dr. Nathan Boyd and his team are already accepting referrals and will start seeing appointments January 15, 2024. Keep reading to learn more about our Cardiologist! Dr. Boyd received his doctorate of veterinary medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 2018. After graduation, he completed a small animal rotating internship at the University of Minnesota followed by a cardiology specialty internship at Kansas State University. He then finished his cardiology training with a three-year residency with Chesapeake Veterinary Cardiology Associates in Virginia. After becoming board certified, Dr. Boyd relocated to Edmonton with his partner.
While Dr. Boyd enjoys all aspects of cardiology, he has special interests in pulmonary hypertension, diastolic heart disease, and cardio-oncology. Outside of work, Dr. Boyd is an avid runner and cyclist. He also enjoys kayaking, fishing, and hiking with his golden retriever, Rise. When the weather takes a turn for the worse, however, he prefers to spend time indoors watching TV shows with his cat, Marta. Dr. Boyd is excited to see what Canada has to offer and to care for the pets of the Edmonton community!
