Ticks are out and about in Edmonton dog parks! This gross tick was brought into us this morning and he is getting a one way ticket to the lab to be tested for diseases. We strongly recommend that if your dog isn't already on anti-tick medication, they definitely should be! There is no charge to test ticks for diseases and we are happy to submit any ticks found on your pets.
I was SO HAPPY to see this old friend! I first met Teddy six years ago right after graduation and landing my first job as an AHT. This was at a different clinic. He was brought in by a rescue organization; super thin, with frost bitten ears, and a broken jaw that had been fractured for a long time. We repaired his jaw best we could and wished him well as he went up for adoption through a pet store. Flash forward 6 years, and the owner that adopted him from the pet store brings him to Marketplace Animal Hospital for a checkup! I recognized this super friendly boy with his namesake ears immediately! It's rare to learn what happens after beloved rescue animals get adopted and I'm so glad to see him and see how happy and well loved he is ❤ -Laura
In order to fight the stigma against both pitbulls and three legged dogs I wanted to share with you a video of our wonderful patient, Nala. Nala is a 7 month old pitbull on the smaller side (less than 30 lb) who approached a much bigger dog than her at the dog park to play with him. This dog's owner overreacted at the sight of Nala running towards his dog. Before she even got close to his dog this man kicked her with so much force he shattered her knee and fractured her femur beyond feasonable surgical repair. The best decision for Nala was to amputate her damaged leg. This is her LESS THAN 24 HOURS AFTER AMPUTATION!! She is doing incredibly well and will soon be able to run as fast as a dog with three legs! Nala is still very friendly and trusting despite the serious amount of pain she went through. She is a perfect example of the resilient, forgiving and loving heart all dogs are capable of having, no matter what breed ❤😃
