Matting comes in alot of forms from small mats to tight pelts that feel like a turtle shell.
In the event your pet is matted, as a groomer, it is our job to get the mats out by taking the longest blade that can get UNDER the mats and shave the mats out.
Once shaved often we see redness and bald spots. This is from the mats actually pulling at the skin as the pet is walking.
This means that your pets fur was left for too long.
After the shave is complete you may notice swelling, redness and/or your pet bothering at the area; scratching and/or licking for the next couple of days.
In this case put a cone on (that you can buy from a pet store or vet clinic) to avoid them from bothing the area.
If your pet is not getting better or they just won't stop bothering it then it is best to contact your veterinarian to get something to help assist with the healing process.
This picture is from a severe case of matting. The blades never got hot, they also do not just bald a cat like this. The unevenness is from the matts pulling at the skin over time.
As always this is a safe space for learning and pictures are for learning purposes.
