Please, understand before getting any pet that they are at least an 8+ year commitment (if not longer, depending on the animal).
There are LOTS of considerations involved, what if you move, have a child, change jobs? Consider how much the vet bills will cost, monthly food, etc. There are SO many factors that should be considered before getting any pet.
Yes, they are cute. Yes, they are great companions to have in your life. However none of these animals deserve to be abandoned in a backpack in a ditch. Or worse, because you can’t handle dealing with the obligation you took on.
All of these rescues are at capacity.
There is no place for these animals to go.
How can you help?
-Volunteer
-Spay & neuter your pets
-Foster an animal FIRST
-If you see a situation, report it to 311
-Educate yourself before making the choice to get any kind of animal

I am so lucky to work with these amazing animals. Maple didn’t want her training session to end today!
When you make training fun, give your dogs the ability to be themselves, their personalities shine. Maple is working on some human reactivity and some other things. Her custom training plan is helping her build confidence and learn how to interact with people and dogs properly.
Maple went through a lot as a puppy, now she is overcoming a few things. Her mom is working hard to get Maple on track!
All dogs are individuals, and there are NO quick fixes when it comes to training. However when you make the effort, it shows. Building better bonds with your pets 🐶

If you’re handing out candy or going Trick or Treating tonight, here are a few tips to keep your pet’s comfortable and most of all safe. There have been so many lost dogs lately, let’s help prevent more.
👻Nervous dog?
Post a sign on your door to knock instead of ringing the doorbell.
👻Make sure they have their collar with their ID tag on JUST in case they slip out. Use a leash if you have to.
👻Keep candy away from your pets
👻Not all dogs enjoy being dressed up, others do. If you dress your dog up make sure it is not a restrictive costume.
👻Give them long lasting chews such as frozen bones, frozen Kongs or Topple’s filled with their favourite ingredients, lick mats are a great option for smaller dogs.
👻Make sure they have a safe space to go to where they can be alone if needed. Such as their kennel, separate bedroom, etc.
If you are going out with your dog, keep a close eye on their body language.
Do not force them to go if they’re uncomfortable. Costumes can be scary, children running up to them can be scary. If it gets overwhelming, take them back home. Do not force them to go. There are a lot of loud noises, screaming, etc. Some dogs can easily get overwhelmed by all of the activities going on, and they do best left at home. Others are simply not bothered.

Dust off your Santa hats, bells and Christmas sweaters and get your furry family members ready for their photos with Santa Clause. This event is running between 11:00 - 4:00pm at Dog Haven Grooming & Daycare #105 - 25 Chisholm Ave in St. Albert. Each timeslot is $25.00 with all proceeds going to Hope Lives Here Animal Rescue Society.
There will be a Christmas surprise for all the animals who come through the door.

Since day one, I have been open about my struggles with my mental health. There is so much stigma around people that struggle with mental health problems. It makes it harder for people to reach out for help.
Mental health is health.
You are not responsible for what others think of you. Surround yourself with people that lift you up, not bring you down.
Stop comparing your life to others. You don’t know their struggles, nor do they know yours.
If you are struggling, I am here to talk. Without judgment.

The last year has not been easy for many reasons, however if not for these two I don’t know where I would be. I am thankful for them both. If not for them, I would not be where I am now.
Life is not always going to be glamorous, but it’s those good moments that make up for the bad days.

Today is and the beginning of do you know majority of shelter dogs are overlooked just because of the colour of their fur? It has nothing to do with their temperament.
I fell in love with Steve the moment I met him. He was so scared, and it broke my heart to see such an amazing dog petrified of humans coming near him. He was developing ‘happy tail’ and if you know anything about it, there is absolutely nothing happy about that condition. I knew I couldn’t let him stay in the kennel, I knew I had to foster him. If I’m being honest, the drive home, I knew he wouldn’t ever be leaving my side. It was everyone else that needed to see him for the amazing dog I knew he was. He has finally opened his shell after years of being in a safe place where he can be himself. Without being punished, abused, starved, or the other horrific things the previous place put him through.
This dog has saved me in more ways than one. I am beyond thankful for this goofy boy.

We have decided to put a pause on taking clients for dog walking services at this time. We are launching a whole bunch of new programs for training services!
We are focusing on things that are in need in the training world, there are a ton of misconceptions about dog training & we are here to change the narrative!
Having dogs learn in a positive, safe environment is our top priority. We cannot wait to share these new programs with you soon!

Neena 💜 Allow your dogs time to smell their environment! This is how they learn. If you’re constantly pulling them along & not allowing them time to sniff or explore, your dog is not getting any sort of mental enrichment. They’re not able to learn their environment around them. Let them sniff every blade of grass if they want to. Think about how long they sit around waiting for you. Let your dog, dog!!!
What does play time look like with your pups? Most of the time, these two are rather gentle with one another. She is more rough on him than he is on her. He puts up with A LOT from her. Knowing what your pets boundaries & limits are can potentially save your pets from taking things too far one day. I know my own dogs would never hurt one another, however if another dog was in the mix, not knowing their limits is another story. Being able to read body language is so important. However, not all dogs exhibit the classic signs of aggression. You never know when a dog may snap. For instance, looking at Sadie’s hackles being raised. Though she is only playing, to someone who doesn’t know her she might look aggressive. The fact they’re both showing their teeth & grabbing each others scruff could come across as aggressive to someone. However, they’re playing. This is how these two play. There was no growling, no barking. (This time 🤣). Most of the time, Sadie get frustrated with Steve & begins to growl at him. He puts up with her sh*t. He gives it right back though. Considering his past, I am beyond proud of him. He never used to let anyone near him, unless you had treats. Hated all men. Could never be crated. Pulled everywhere on his walks, inhaled in meals, weighed only 40lbs. Now look at this majestic beast. This sassy girl makes my day. We had a conversation about how she cannot steal balloons from children. She wasn’t happy with with, but it also gave us the opportunity to chat with some students & teachers at the school we walk by daily. I was beyond proud of the kids ASKING if they could pet Tink. Most kids just go for it, we need to educate people on consent petting. I did let them know that they could not pet her, oddly enough the kids understood better than most adults. Not all dogs exhibit signs of being uncomfortable. Tink is one of them. She will strike with no warning. Knowing this, I don’t allow strangers to pet her on our walks. She is protective, not aggressive. She does not like strangers coming up to her she does not know. I explain this to adults, they get offended. Children say ok & move on with their day. It’s amazing how an adult will almost throw a tantrum when they don’t get their way, where as a child will act more as an adult. Advocate for your dogs, you are their voice. You do not have consent to walk up & touch a human with out permission. Dogs are exactly the same.
Your dog is not a machine, they do not have auto pilot. They need to decompress just as humans do. Allowing your dogs the ability to sniff on their walks provides them so much more mental enrichment than keeping them in a proper heel. Yes, that too is important in the correct situation, however your dog needs to decompress, they need to explore, they need to sniff their environment. It is how they learn, it is how they communicate. Not allowing your dogs to sniff on their walks is depriving them of so much. Rudy and I have been working together for a few days a week, for a close to two months. He used to pull everywhere! Now, he knows his boundaries, how far he can go on his line, he checks in, and comes back when called. No adverse tools were used. He has made so much progress, and I couldn’t be prouder. Allow your dog to be a dog.
