I love the bond between Silas 🐶 and Elton 🦄I’ve been getting questions about donkeys and dogs and here is a bit more background on these two:I did not expect Elton to be a fan of Silas, especially at first. Elton has been pretty nervous since we first met him. I suspect he was part of a larger herd situation where he was beat up often/at the bottom of the pecking order (he had lots of both fresh and old bite and kick scars to prove it when he arrived).•At their first meeting (through the fence) Elton was fearful and brayed super loudly at Silas. This practically made Silas jump out of his skin! 💥•At their second meeting, Elton unexpectedly (it had been a quiet grazing time) charged at Silas (Elton was on a leadline so he couldn’t hurt him).•By the third time Elton interacted with Silas, he seemed to realize that Silas wasn’t a threat and then he became very curious about the dog. Lots of sniffing! (From the donkey!)•We started going on walks together out of the pens (again, Elton was on a leadline in these situations) and that’s where the friendship really blossomed.Not every dog is going to be good around mini donkeys and certainly not every donkey is going to appreciate a dog in their space.
