Pongo's story is one interwoven with love, compassion, and an unbreakable bond with a family that epitomizes kindness. This family, known for their immense hearts, has always stepped up to offer shelter to animals in need. Their journey with Pongo began in December 2021 when they rescued his mother, a then-pregnant stray, braving the frigid Alberta winters. Under their care, she safely gave birth to a litter of kittens. As time went on, each kitten found a loving home, and the mother cat was spayed and adopted. Yet, two kittens remained—Pongo and his brother, whom the family simply couldn't bear to part with.
The brothers became cherished indoor cats, making Pongo's mysterious escape all the more baffling. Tragically, upon his return, the family discovered his grievous injuries from a car accident. Without hesitation, they rushed Pongo to the veterinary hospital, where he spent two nights before undergoing a pivotal surgery on October 27, 2023.
Through all this, Pongo's spirit remains unyielding. His unique and friendly personality touches the soul of everyone he encounters. As he battles infections and faces possible additional surgeries, his family remains steadfast, determined to do whatever it takes to ensure a full, long life for their beloved feline. They, and Pongo, are ever grateful for every bit of support received.
These next few weeks, possibly more, are crucial for Pongo as he requires daily hospital visits to battle infections and monitor his wounds. Further procedures may be on the horizon given the extent of his injuries. While his road to recovery is steep, with the community's support and compassion, we can help him overcome these challenges.
