Raise A Bottle To Save A Whisker

Raise A Bottle To Save A Whisker Together, we save lives—one bottle at a time. When his owner could no longer afford his care, Chicken was surrendered to avoid euthanasia.

Critical Impact Starts with a Single Action: Raise A Bottle To Save A Whisker turns recyclables into life-saving funds, ensuring pets in Edmonton and area get the critical vet care they need. In a world where the rising cost of veterinary care can lead to heartbreaking choices, Raise A Bottle To Save A Whisker stands as a beacon of hope and compassion. Founded by Alexandra, this heartfelt initiati

ve was born from the remarkable journey of Chicken, the cat who inspired it all. Chicken, a resilient 3-year-old cat, faced a life-threatening condition known as Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD). Despite numerous health challenges and escalating costs, Alexandra refused to give up on Chicken. She adopted him and launched the "Saving Chicken" campaign, rallying the community's support for his life-saving surgery on December 1, 2022. The overwhelming love and generosity of the community led to Chicken's successful recovery, inspiring Alexandra to create Raise A Bottle To Save A Whisker to help other pets in need. Pongo, a beloved family cat in St. Albert, was the first pet helped by the initiative. In October 2023, he suffered a severe injury from a vehicle accident, and his family couldn't afford the urgent treatment he needed. The "Raise A Bottle To Save A Whisker: Support Pongo!" campaign brought the community together once again, ensuring Pongo's recovery and reaffirming the mission of Raise A Bottle To Save A Whisker. Pongo's story is one interwoven with love, compassion, and an unbreakable bond with a family that epitomizes kindness. This family, known for their immense hearts, has always stepped up to offer shelter to animals in need. Their journey with Pongo began in December 2021 when they rescued his mother, a then-pregnant stray, braving the frigid Alberta winters. Under their care, she safely gave birth to a litter of kittens. As time went on, each kitten found a loving home, and the mother cat was spayed and adopted. Yet, two kittens remained—Pongo and his brother, whom the family simply couldn't bear to part with.

The brothers became cherished indoor cats, making Pongo's mysterious escape all the more baffling. Tragically, upon his return, the family discovered his grievous injuries from a car accident. Without hesitation, they rushed Pongo to the veterinary hospital, where he spent two nights before undergoing a pivotal surgery on October 27, 2023.

Through all this, Pongo's spirit remains unyielding. His unique and friendly personality touches the soul of everyone he encounters. As he battles infections and faces possible additional surgeries, his family remains steadfast, determined to do whatever it takes to ensure a full, long life for their beloved feline. They, and Pongo, are ever grateful for every bit of support received.

These next few weeks, possibly more, are crucial for Pongo as he requires daily hospital visits to battle infections and monitor his wounds. Further procedures may be on the horizon given the extent of his injuries. While his road to recovery is steep, with the community's support and compassion, we can help him overcome these challenges.

To aid Pongo's healing journey and sidestep the heart-wrenching alternative of euthanasia, please consider donating your empty recyclables — jugs, containers, bottles, and cans. For convenience, Alex can pick them up from you if you text or call 780-977-1009. Alternatively, drop-offs are welcome at the St. Albert Bottle Refund Center, 8 Riel Dr, St. Albert, AB, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2023.

To donate directly to the veterinary clinic, please call or text Alex at 780-977-1009 for details on how to do so, or you may donate online at GoFundMe:
