Range Road Garden Farms Growing fresh herbs, year-round, under lights. The Maven of Jam, Charcuterie and Toast. We want to help change all that.

As grandmothers, we are concerned with the quality of fresh, local food available for our children and grandchildren now and in years to come. Children often don't recognize all but the most basic vegetables and most have no idea how any of it is grown. If you have space, we encourage you to grow food for yourself and purchase locally what you can't.

One fireman, with his family, came on stage to tell their story. After getting his family to safety, he headed to his firehouse. 16 hours later, after his shift, he is standing in the ashes of his home, grateful that he remembered where he had put his wedding ring before he flew out the door. It's all so sad.
The stories brought me back to thoughts of Fort Mac, Jasper, etc.

Are you thinking about starting some Basil in rockwool? A few pointers:
1. Remember to water your herbs seedlings from the bottom and drain well. That includes dampening the rockwool before seeding. Do not fertilizer. Your seedlings are trying to produce roots to thrive.
2. Despite a lot of advice online, do not push seed down into the rockwool. Rockwool has a higher water retention than other starter plugs. Your seeds may spoil due to overwetting.
3. Many seeds will germinate in less than 5 days. I recommend adding pH Down to your water as Rockwood tends to be a little acidic.
4. Propagation should complete in about 14 days, but don't transplant until the cotyledon leaves have been replaced with true leaves. You can tell. They are tiny versions of the plant's real leaves.
5. As the true leaves take over, the cotyledon may wilt and drop off.
6. When you have 2 to 3 true leaves and a couple inches of roots, it's time to transplant.

This one is carrot, asparagus, green onion and broccoli. Just veggies I had in the fridge. No cream, just a little butter and cream cheese. Cooked and pureed in the Vitamix with some of the cooking liquid. Added tortellini and salt & pepper to season. Pretty simple but super easy to do. You can make something like this with vegetables and pasta you can find at the market. While I'm promoting, the bowl is from the market too.

I've been nursing a cold, so under the blankets, remote in hand, overloading on shows like Gardener's World on Britbox. Not sure if there are a people more enamored with their gardening than the Brits. Chelsea Flower show, now that's a dream holiday. But back to cloning, particularly for plants with woody stems, It can shorten your time to harvest by weeks. For our growing season thats a bonus. Clones are also true to the parent plan. Some plants, like French Tarragon, are mostly sterile, so cloning is essential.

Our Story

Concerns about the distance our food travels; modifications made to make food resistant to issues with travel; shelf life in the grocery; increasing issues with food allergies and sensitivities. It goes on and on. This is not news, we are hearing more and more about it every day. We now have an entire generation facing food and health issues. The majority of the population live in larger urban centers with less and less space to grow anything for ourselves.

We decided it was time to help take back some of that control by offering healthy produce and locally sourced ingredients for our jams and jellies. The things we grew up considering to be the norm.
