Yesterday was the last (weather dependent) auction of the year. We raised $450 to save a horse. We ended up saving 2. Here’s Bo and Archers first steps into starting their new life!
Sparrow
She’s a 6 year old Thoroughbred mare around 15.3hh. She’s been rode English and Western but would make a great jumping prospect. She’s being rode consistently at a jumping barn in Ardrossan and will be started over jumps next week. She’s been in a herd with mares and geldings and gets along with them great. She’s easy to catch with a bucket of grain and good on the fences. She’s used to kids dogs farm equipment and doesn’t spook. She’s been dentalled vaccinated dewormed and coggins tested. She’s great for the farrier and easy to trailer. Share this post if you know anyone that would like to adopt Sparrow.
First walk with trimmed feet! It is going to take a lot of consistent trims to get her feet to somewhat normal again. So the process of being able to walk somewhat normal again with slowly come. She’s still going to be extremely sore but she is walking better and standing more comfortably. She is on a bit of pain killers to help and we will be getting a chiropractor appointment. With how sore she is she stood pretty good for the farrier.
Here’s Enid getting off the trailer and seeing a horse for the first time in probably a very long time. Listen to her nicker, those are very happy sounds coming from her. Horses and ponies are extremely social animals and should never be expected to live alone. They should always have the chance to see and touch another horse. They can experience acute distress when left alone for too long. (See Enid’s original rescue post below).
Don’t worry Enid you are starting a new comfortable life and will never be alone again.
